A couple of months ago I played around with Nikon's macro flash system R1C1. These are some of my findings.
To summarize, here are some pros and cons:
+ The SB-R200 units are extremely accurate and has much better individual precision in the output compared to all other iTTL units I've tried (SB-400, SB-600,SB-800 ).
+ It's easy to set the "contribution ratio" between the flash units with impressive precision.
+ Both flash- and control units are lightweight and reasonably small
- The supplied mounting system is a major disappointment. Flimsy and obtrusive.
- No readily available alternative mounting system â why no hotshoe-compatible mount or 1/4" thread on the SB-R200 units? Stupid!
- CR123A batteries. No batteries or chargers included. You can find rechargeable CR123A batteries but the manual says nothing about compatibility with these and the ones Nikon suggests you use are disposable and environmentally UNFRIENDLY Lithium batteries.
_________________________
The SB-R1C1 consists of two SB-R200 wireless flash units, one SU-800 control unit and a bunch of accessories. There is another similar kit called SB-R1 without the control unit. Cameras with built in wireless flash support doesn't need the control unit but can use the built in flash to control the wireless units instead. However the SU-800 offers a nice interface that is considerably quicker to work with than having to dig into the camera menus (at least on my Fujifilm S5pro body).
Precision and Metering
The fact that you can fire a SB-R200 straight into the lens at short distance and get a decently exposed view of the flash bulb should tell you something about the low output precision of these units. For macro work it is a great feature to be able to position the flash(es) a couple of centimeters from the subject and still get proper exposures.
The metering with the SB-R200 units also seem "smarter" than with other units since it doesn't make the strange assumptions in the way other iTTL-units I've experience with do. For instance â if you use SB-400 with Sigma 150mm it works fine in its original working range. However if you add a diopter â I like to use Raynox DCR-150 with this lens, the metering goes haywire. I suspect this is because the flash/camera uses the focus distance information provided by the lens to make presumptions about the exposure rather than using the actual TTL-information alone. At least this would explain why it overexposes about three stops if you shoot with the lens focused at infinity (which with the DCR-150 means a working distance of about 30cm). Another reason I suspect it is the focus distance info provided by the lens that fools the metering is that things work great with manual lenses (these do not provide this data). Anyway â you get nothing of this kind with the SB-R200 units â they expose perfectly whatever strange contraption the macro photographer has put on his/her camera.
I was also impressed by how intelligent the CLS system actually is. For instance â if you set the ratio between the units to 2:1 it does not merely set the output to 2:1 â instead it sets the output so that the units contribute to the exposure by this ratio, which of course is way more useful! To do this it has to meter for each unit (or to be more precise: each group) separately and hence you'll get two pre-flashes before the actual exposure (which is simultaneous).
Mounting system
SB-R1 and SB-R1C1 comes with a ring-shaped plastic adapter that attaches via an another adapter to the filter thread of the lens. It comes with several adapters for different thread sizes and these are the only parts of this system that are not made of plastic. The plastic ring adapter attaches to the knurled edge of the metal adapter with four small, plastic springloaded "pegs" that protrudes inwards. It shouldn't take long to wear these plastic pegs down to "unusableness" against the knurled metal, and it certainly doesnt feel very secure. The flash units fits into the ring anywhere around its perimeter. Once attached to the ring you can easily slide the units around the ring by pushing a couple of springloaded buttons at the base of the flash mount. Unfortunately the fit between the flash units and the ring is not tight and when you move the setup around they wobble in their mounts making the setup feel quite vulnerable. One can only hope that it feels worse than it is and you'll probably get used to this after a while. In any case it's very hard to believe you need to pay $1000 for something this flimsy!
Besides being flimsy it's very far from low profile. The ring adds a lot of girth to the end of the lens that makes it impossible to get nice low angles close to the ground at high magnifications. Also â the front end of my lenses takes a fair bit abuse when I'm out shooting. I push it against the ground, drag it along rock surfaces trying to pan along with fast critters and so on. The clumsy plastic adapter wouldn't last long and I didn't even want to give it a try since I'd only borrowed my copy of the SB-R1C1. So I concluded that it was more or less unusable for me in its intended form, mounted on the lens.
Still I liked the performance of the SB-R200 units and wanted to give them a try in the field. At first I thought I'd just mount one of the units on my Manfrotto hydrostatic arm (that I use with my other flashes) and just hold the other one in my hand or mount it on a gorilla-pod. Nikon made the mistake of leaving out any other mount than the special one that fits in the plastic ring. I don't think a small plastic hotshoe or 1/4" filter thread would have been too much to ask! Fortunately the white plastic "stand" that comes with these units has a 1/4" thread so these can be used to mount the units to a tripod threaded device like the Manfrotto arm. You have to live with a fair bit of wobble though since the SB-R200 fits as loosely in the stand as in the ring. I know I'm probably overly sensitive to these things but it really bugs me when it feels like something will snap right off if it takes a minor blow! I've really come to expect more from Nikon â if anything their equipment often stand out as more well made than the competition.
I ended up mounting the flashes as shown in the above picture â the white plastic stand has small indentations that the plastic spring loaded pegs fit into. So I connected these and threaded it onto the Manfrotto arm. I think this way of mounting it gives much better flexibility when it comes to creative positioning of the light sources than if you mount it straight onto the lens.
So this was what I brought with me into the field. The differently colored flashing LEDs and slightly unusual Mickey Mouse look of the rig probably caused passers by to wonder if I was playing with some fancy toy (which of course was pretty accurate).
Final notes
I played around with it for a couple of hours before the disposable batteries were drained (to be fair they probably weren't fresh when I got them). It worked allright and surprisingly I managed to not break a single plastic mounting point. It's a mixed bag of experiences for sure. The metering is impressive and I like the performance of the SB-R200 units and the SU-800 interface. But the cheap feel of the mounting system and the lack of a descent alternative is such a big minus for this kind of product that my net impression isn't very favorable.
I still prefer to use my usual setup with a single wired SB-400 working in iTTL mode or a SB-24 in manual mode (fired as slave or by non-ttl wire) + DIY diffuser. If I had the SB-R1C1 I would make some serious modifications to the SB-R200 mounts and give the ring adapter to my two year old. I do not think it is worth paying the high price for this partially excellent but partially dreadful system.
See below for some test shots. All were made using the plastic diffusers that comes with the kit. These diffusers work OK but they fell off more than once and each time I was sure the tiny plastic hinges keeping them in place had broken off. They were allright but I could see clearly see some wear to the flimsy parts at the end of my session.

KW Praktina IIA with T 2.8/50 Jena (Tessar)
Interchangeable prism viewfinder with exposure meter
Legendary, very advanced camera from the 1950ties, often called the first "system camera", and that's certainly true. The camera is like an open system, you can change lenses, viewers, viewerscreens, you can mount motor drives for the film advance, long film magazines and loupes for the prism finders. And the prototype, just called "Praktina", was introduced at the Photokina in Cologne already in 1952! Serial production started in 1953 with the Praktina FX, in 1958 it was replaced by the Praktina IIA, which was even more advanced.
It is hard to describe all the progress, that camera brought. For example, you have a shutter speed dial for fast and slow shutter speeds combined, you can turn it in any direction without stop, with the shutter tensioned or not. The shutter speeds are equidistant on the dial, and when the shutter runs, there are no rotating parts outside the camera - sensational.
So I picked out two technical highlights:
Since 1954 the camera was equipped with an automatic aperture. It worked like the one on the Contax SLR with M42 mount: the aperture is open for viewing, but when the shutter button is pressed, the camera pushes a pin into the lens and the diaphragm will close to the value selected on the f-stop ring. With the introduction of the Praktina IIA there was change: the new camera pressed the pin permanently into the lens to keep the diaphragm open for viewing. When the shutter button was pressed, the camera *releases* the pin, the aperture was closed by a spring force in the lens. This concept was used at first in the medium format camera "Praktisix" (later Pentacon Six), and since both cameras Praktisix and Praktina were developed very close to each other, the Praktina was the first 35 mm SLR with that design. Nearly every great manufacturer of 35 mm SLR used it, until Canon introduced the EF mount and the the diaphragm was operated electronically.
Perhaps you've noticed, that I'm presenting the IIA with an unmounted lens, and furthermore, that there are some springs and levers too much in the mirror box. The reason for that device is to keep compatibility with the - let me call them - FX-lenses. IIA-lenses are mounted commonly with the indexes on top, using the kerf on top of the camera mount (under the "IIA"). FX-lenses are mounted turned, they must use the kerf beside the self-timer. About 3,000 to 4,000 IIA-cameras were modified that way by the manufacturer itself.
The second highlight is the shutter introduced with the IIA. When thinking of the movement of a horizontally traveling shutter with curtains made of cloth, you certainly imagine a slot with a constant width traveling in front of the film (at fast shutter speeds). That's not the entire truth: the curtains are moving accelerated, so the first curtain is *earlier faster*. As a result the width of the slot increases during the exposure. Now you might expect an uneven exposure along the frame, but the effect can compensate itself. A slowly traveling narrow slot can produce the same outcome like a fast traveling broad one, but an exact compensation was certainly random. I don't know if early camera designers knew about that effect, but after WWII there were new technical instruments you could examine it very precisely. So, the designer of the Praktina, Siegfried Böhm, was the first one who could control that effect, the increasing width of the slot was exactly compensated by the speed of the shutter curtains. He used rolls for the curtains with a specified diameter, thus the shutter movement was also less dependent from the spring force of that rolls.
Unfortunately the production of the Praktina was ceased in 1960, it was a directive of "decision makers". A pretext could have been, that two lens mounts were sufficient (M42 and Exakta), and it was too expensive to produce lenses in three versions.

Bâ (B-Flat)
Further excerpt released. Just a rough draft from the beginning. Like a note. Please read if you'd like. :)
Setting: New York City.
Red, Yellow, Blueââ
It was just past 7 p.m. when a light drizzle began to fall on East 52nd Street.
Anaya Patel leaned against the wall of the building next to Tot Ramen, where she was supposed to meet someone, and absently stared at the traffic light at the intersection to her right.
It was already July, yet the summer felt cooler than last yearâs. She regretted stepping out in just a T-shirt.
When the light turned green, Anaya squinted, narrowing her gaze.
Kana, her old classmate, was waving and smiling as she ran toward herââ
The flat ceiling of Madison Square Garden seemed to bulge slightly with the heat of the crowd, or so it appeared to Jack.
Cheers welcoming the presidential candidate clashed with shouts of outrage, rattling deep inside his ears.
Jack scanned the arena quickly before glancing back down at his iPhone. Several social media apps were open at once, and furious posts streamed across the screen.
One post in the bottom right cornerâon Metaâcaught his eye.
A death threat.
Presidential candidate Justin Bradford was about to take the stage with his fiancée, Eleanor Blake.
As a red spotlightâthe color of the Republican Partyâlit up the center of the stage, the couple stepped out.
And at that exact moment, a gunshot rang out.
It was subtle enough to be missed at firstâbut Jack heard it. Two shots.
As chaos erupted around him, Jack quietly closed his eyes, picturing the trajectory.
The first bulletâlikely from his right, near the PA system. But that area should have been covered by agents from his own unit.
He calculated the second shot. It probably came from the left side of the stage.
It was aimed with precision, taking into account the positioning of both Justin and Eleanor.
There might have been a leak.
Then came a second report.
His colleague Ben Hollowayâs voice, calm as ever.
The heart was missed, but both bullets had hit. One had grazed it and lodged in the epigastric area, just under the diaphragm.
Jack replied, equally calm.
âJustinâs Bombay blood. I confirmed it three days ago with Bellevue Hospital. They have reserves stored.â
Ben responded in a low voice, as if nothing had happened.
âUnderstood.â
Justin was rushed to Bellevue, the closest hospital to Madison Square Garden.
Jack called Elijah Kane directly from his smartphone.
Using WhatsApp or any other messaging app was strictly forbidden in the Secret Service.
Elijah answered before the first ring ended.
âJack, itâs bad. We donât have it. No Bombay blood.â
Jack was stunned.
âI confirmed it three days ago. I spoke directly to the person in chargeâcan't recall their nameâbut I saw the blood bags myself.â
After a pause, Elijah replied.
âThat person died in a car accident yesterday.â
Anaya Patel waited for her husband Arjun at Tot Ramen.
With her was Mika (Sato), her best friend since collegeâJapanese.
Just as the server placed a steaming bowl of ramen in front of her, Anayaâs phone rang.
The caller ID said Bellevue Hospital.
She answered without hesitation.
Mika looked on, concerned.
âIs this Anaya Patel? Iâm Sasha Wilson from Emergency.
You may have heardâRepublican presidential candidate has been shot.
We need your blood.
Stay where you are. A Secret Service vehicle is en route.â
Following Mikaâs gaze, Anaya turned to the display above the counter.
A live report from MSG was playing.
Then, a man in a sleek blue suit with brown skin approached her.
âIâm Rohan Shah, Secret Service.
Please come with me to the hospital.
The car is ready.â
He reached for her hand with urgency.
Just then, Anayaâs iPhone buzzed again. An unfamiliar number.
She tapped it.
âHello?â
âAnaya Patel?â
âYes. Who is this?â
âJack. Jack Vance. Secret Service. Iâll be there shortly.â
âHow do you know where I am?â
âWeâre professionals. We have our ways.â
âBut the Secret Service guy is already here.â
âNoâheâs not!â Jackâs voice roared through the phone.
At that instant, the man in front of her pulled a rifle from under his jacket and aimed it at her forehead.
A small gunshot rang through the restaurant.
Anaya froze.
She couldnât speak.
As the man collapsed to the floor, another figure emergedâalso pointing a gun at her.
It was her husband, Arjun.
âFreeze! FBI!â
NYPD officers in uniform and FBI agents in gray suits stormed in.
âHands behind your head! Get down on the floor!â
The cliché movie-like commands rang out as Anaya trembled. Mika, too.
But probably no one shook more than Arjun.
Jack arrived moments later.
âAnaya Patel!â
Still trembling, Anaya answered without looking up.
âThatâs me.â
Jack, drenched in sweat, pulled her upright.
âWeâre going to the hospital.â
A message from Elijah arrived with a link.
Jack, now in the passenger seat with Anaya, tossed her his iPhone.
âOpen it!â
She tapped itâit appeared to be a livestream.
âGood evening, New York. And Los Angeles.
My name is Zakaria Haddad.
Thatâs my real name.
A few years ago, I lived in Gaza.
Now Iâm in a room that mimics one you know very well.â
A man with brown skin and a beard sat in what looked almost exactly like the Oval Office.
He looked at his watch, then back at the camera.
âItâs time for breaking news.
Keep your eyes on your phones.â
Just then, an alert popped up:
BREAKING: Former Democratic President Owen Reed reportedly shot at the Los Angeles Convention Center
Zakaria bowed his head slightly and chuckled.
âA sad headline, isnât it?
But donât be sad, America.
In Gaza, we endured 55,000 times worse.
We lost more than 55,000 loved ones.
We weptâendlessly.â
Still looking down, he clenched his fists and slammed the desk.
When he looked up, tears glistened in his eyes.
âWe do not seek money.
Nor honor through death.
All we wantâ
are tears.
Tears equal to the ones we shed.
Only those tears can heal us.â
Placing both elbows on the desk and clasping his hands, Zakaria gently rested his chin on them. He closed his eyes, and a heavy silence filled the room. The corners of his eyes seemed to tremble ever so slightly. Then, slowly, he began to speak.
âI am just one among fifty-five thousand. Even if I disappear, the will of fifty thousand others will remainâunchanging, undying, carried forward. I am here to give voice to that will.â
Zakaria opened the desk drawer, took out a Glock 17, and slid the action, chambering a round. He raised the gun to his temple.
A Sunni Muslim, he looked straight into the camera and spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
âGod bless you. America.â
Zakaria closed his eyes and pulled the trigger straight back. A dry crack echoed through the room.
The screen cut to black in an instant.
To be continued...

Wide Angle landscape featuring the Ritchmond Bridge and Bay Bridge.
I shot this one a couple of months ago, but I've been on a bit of a marathon with photography lately, and this is one of many older shots I just never got around to until now.
I shot this one with the D800E, using the Nikon 16-35 VR lens. After using this lens for a while, I can conclude that it really is an amazing lens. Great build quality, 77mm filter compatibility, and an extremely useful zoom range. Although it isn't nearly as sharp as any of my primes, it IS sharp - as evidenced by the detail in the dirt in this shot. For a wide angle junkie, this is the perfect walkabout lens.

A Novel by Mitsushiro Nakagawa

âSynopsisâ
A Palestinian group from Gaza hacks into North Koreaâs cryptocurrency system, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars. Their true goal is not moneyâbut to recreate the lost homeland of Gaza on American soil.
Amid the backdrop of hardline Republican immigration policies and a growing wave of xenophobia, a quiet plan begins to take shape: the gradual collapse of America from within.
During a speech at Madison Square Garden, Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford is shot. Almost simultaneously in Los Angeles, former president Owen Reed is attacked at a rally for Democratic hopeful Ryan Bennett.
Two assassinationsâmirroring one anotherâignite a nationâs deepest divide. Yet, against all odds, Justin survives. His blood type is one in 2.5 million: the Bombay Blood Group.
The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidateâs life.
Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.
Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New Yorkâembedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.
His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) liveâsymbols of âthe order America built.â
Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.
Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.
Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: âWe will never bow to terror.â
Among the crowd, Rafiâs operatives have already taken their positions.
As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasserâonce Rafiâs comrade, haunted by the memory of his sisterâs death in Gazaâtries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.
But Rafiâs conviction remains unshaken.
Under the twilight beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, amid the cityâs fading noise, the two men part ways.
It is the boundary between prayer and vengeance, between hope and nothingness.

Bâ will be released worldwide on February 29, 2026.
Recently, director Ridley Scott remarked that streaming films and series have become dull.
I agree.
If you have two hours to spare for such stories, I ask for only two minutes of your time.
Two minutes with my novel will outlast those two hours.
I am confident of that.
Stay tuned.

My new novel
Bâ (B Flat)
English translation by GPT-5, in collaboration with Mitsushiro Nakagawa
Twilight sank over the harbor town, dimming the air as the rusted girders along the pier turned a burnished red.
The park in Red Hook was nearly empty; the chains of the swings stirred in the wind, clinking faintly.
Childrenâs laughter drifted from afar, only deepening the stillness that hung over the place.
Amir stood outside the wire fence, gazing at the scene, and something half-forgotten stirred within him.
There had been evenings, too, in the rubble of Gaza.
Out from the ruins of broken houses, his mother would appearâ
breathless, dust clinging to her clothes, coming to find him, to hold him close.
He could still recall the scent of her hair, the warmth of her arms.
âLetâs go home,â she had said.
Even if âhomeâ was nothing more than a collapsing shell of stone and dust, her voice alone had led him back.
A mattress laid atop debris.
A room with no walls, only wind.
Yet each time his motherâs hand brushed his forehead, that place became, undeniably, home.
Amirâs gaze returned to the New York children swaying on the swings.
The innocent rhythm between mothers and sons was repeating itself again, bathed in the soft light of dusk.
It was a world untouched by weapons or blood.
âRafi,â he murmured, barely louder than the wind,
âmaybe⊠we donât have to go on.â
Rafi didnât look away.
His eyes were clouded with the sediment of Gazaâblood and dust, the memory of ruin.
His fatherâs body fallen in shadow.
Walls blackened with fire.
Dreams torn apart.
What filled him was not tenderness, but a cold and merciless anger.
âDonât forget, Amir,â he said, his voice hard as stone.
âIn the same place where your mother held you, our fathers were slaughtered.
Those ruins are not just ruins.â
Amir fell silent.
The riverâs surface rippled red in the twilight; across the East River, the towers of Manhattan shimmered faintly, blurred at the edges.
Peace and destruction, memory and hatredâ
they mingled together in the same wind.
Behind the wire fence, childrenâs laughter still rang out.
But to the two men, it sounded only like an echo from another world.
The setting sun sank quietly, staining the bridgeâs iron joints red as the heat beneath it trembled in the air.
Rainwater pooled in the cracks of the concrete, reflecting a thin sheet of gold.
A faint steam rose from the damp air, and the salt from the harbor clung to Amirâs nose.
The boarded door of an abandoned factory hung loose,
the wind pushing in old newspapers and leaves, swirling them into tiny spirals.
From afar came the cry of cicadas, and a city bus exhaled a sigh through its brakes.
Beneath the bridge stood Amir, Rafi, and several others scattered in silence.
Some wiped sweat from their brows, eyes lowered to the ground;
others rested hands upon the girders, gazing out toward the distant light.
At intervals, the shadow of a parent waiting for a child passed by,
a white-roofed van gliding through the heat.
Amir rubbed his back, the sweat clinging to his shirt, and sat down in the shadow of the bridge pier.
Rafi stood a short distance away.
Their shadows stretched long, wavering under the harsh westering sun.
No one among their comrades moved; their stillness was a kind of breathless waiting.
âCanât we stop here?â Amirâs voice wavered into the humid air.
In his mind, he saw again his motherâs hand reaching through a crack in the stone wallâ
that small, dirt-stained hand that once touched his cheek.
The desire to return to that warmth still flickered faintly in his chest, like an ember refusing to die.
Rafi clenched his jaw, and spoke through his teeth, his words as brief and cold as a stone cast into the sea.
âDonât forget, Amir.
If you forget that night, weâll betray the dead.â
His voice merged with the creak of metal underfoot, irreconcilable with the laughter of children or the cry of cicadas drifting in the distance.
Amir narrowed his eyes, watching the flow of light beyond the railing.
Across the river, windows shimmered in layersâ
places where life went on, where dinners were being served,
where childrenâs laughter and footsteps would echo softly through the gardens.
A deep shadow cut across Rafiâs face.
His fists were clenched, the veins on his hands taut and bright.
âThat wish of yours,â he said quietly,
âdo you know it might become someoneâs gravestone?â
Amirâs gaze fell to a small white rabbit doll at his feet.
It was caked with dust, one eye missing.
Perhaps it belonged to a child who once played beneath this bridgeâ
or perhaps it had simply wandered here by chance.
Either way, to Amir, that single missing eye seemed like a fleeting glimpse of a world quietly disappearing.
Silence spread between them.
The wind hummed low through the iron beams.
Around them, the world went on moving.
A van door shut.
A parent touched a childâs shoulder.
A bus turned the corner.
Their comrades drew shallow breaths, eyes fixed on the ground or the far horizon.
Without looking back, Amir began walking toward the city beyond the bridgeâs shadow.
Behind him came a single breath from Rafiâ
a sound that carried the stillness of a corpse.
The summer dusk slowly swallowed the bridge.
The men beneath it remained as faint silhouettes,
poised between the red of sunset and the cold gleam of steel.
Rafi quietly unzipped his bag and drew out a tablet.
His fingers trembled slightly,
but he took a slow breath to steady himself,
and aimed the camera at the mark of âBââ at the bottom of mellow-echo.net.
A dark screen flickered to life, revealing a deep-layer QR code.
Without hesitation, his finger slid along the words:
âC4-ID: Vanta+Core / Ready.â
That movement sent a faint tremor through the tension of the men beneath the bridge,
blending with the dry scent of rust and the damp summer air.
From the far side of the East River, under another bridge,
sparks began to riseâone, then anotherâ
tiny flashes glowing red in the dark.
The light quivered across the shadows,
and the sound of metal striking metal echoed low.
Rafiâs eyes followed the fading silhouette of Amirâs back.
The others stepped silently away,
drawing a little farther from the bridge.
Moist air clung to Rafiâs skin,
and the mingled red of dusk and chill of steel filled the space around him.
In the hush beneath the bridge,
each flash and creak formed a strange rhythm in his chest.
A cicada cried once in the distance.
The cityâs murmur faded to a far-off haze.
Pressed beneath that wave of tension,
the men held their breath,
confirming each otherâs presence only through glances and the rhythm of their breathing.
The summer dusk slowlyâyet surelyâ
swallowed the bridge, the city,
and the shadows that remained.

This is my first attempt at posting a model train movie. The lighting is not very bright, and the background shows way too many objects that don't belong in the scene. This is only a format test.
Technical notes: the "raw footage" is on my hard drive at home, but I deleted it from my camera memory chip to save space. The experiment proves I can transfer video data from my camera to computer to Flickr without compatibility issues, so it is successful. Now all I have to do is learn to make movies. I also need to complete this scene, get a photo background, and get some better lighting.
I have been looking at photo backgrounds for years and came across a promising new site for them today at www.trainjunkies.com . Yeah, their web address is pretty weird, but I like several of their scenes and the simplicity of their website and ordering options. The Background Warehouse has been around a long time and has an even greater photo repertoire; however, their website is complex as are their ordering options and sizes.
I ve tried to make a minifig buggy since the day i saw the Proudlove's tiny turbo buggy which was based on Raphy's one. Yesterday i notice the great compatibility between the Spear Guns and the Hand Truck and it was a couple of hours work to create it and a couple of hours plus to make the photo scene!
u can take a closer look on the Hummer
and by the way i ve never thought that a hand truck could be useful in any of my creations!

"I have no idea how he knows when I need him. We can go weeks without speaking, and then, when my blue moods threaten to turn black, he will show up and tell me my moods are azure, indigo, cerulean, cobalt, periwinkle, and suddenly the blue will not seem so dark, more like the color of a noon-bright sky. He brings the sun."
~ David Levithan

My New Novel:
Bâ (B-flat)
This is the third time I'm sharing it. (^^;;
It's a rough sketch from the beginning, more like notes.
Hope you enjoy reading it. :)
I've added quite a bit.
I wonât be uploading any more. (^_^;)
Note: I gave a brief explanation of this novel in the following video:

Red, yellow, blueâ
Light rain began to fall on East 52nd Street just after 7 p.m.
Anaya Patel leaned against the wall of the building next to Tot Ramen, where she was supposed to meet someone, and absentmindedly stared at the traffic light at the intersection to her right. Though it was already July, it felt like a cooler summer than last year, and she regretted stepping out in just a T-shirt.
When the light turned green, Anaya squinted and stared intently. Kana, her former classmate, was smiling and waving as she ran toward herâ
The flat ceiling of Madison Square Garden looked as if it were swelling from the heat of the crowd to Jack. Cheers welcoming the presidential candidate mingled with angry shouts, shaking the air like a wave.
Jack surveyed the arena briefly before returning his gaze to his iPhone. Several social media feeds scrolled simultaneously on the screen, overflowing with rapid posts.
One post in the Meta feed caught his eye. A death threat.
Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford was about to take the stage with his fiancée, Eleanor Blake.
As the red lights symbolizing the Republican Party lit up the center stage, the two appeared together.
Then came the gunshots.
Jack recognized it instantlyâtwo shots.
While chaos erupted inside the arena, Jack calmly closed his eyes and visualized the scene. He traced the sound of each shot to its possible source.
The first shot had likely come from the PA area near his right side. But Secret Service agents were stationed there.
He recalculated the second shotâprobably fired from the left side of the stage. The assailant must have known the couple's precise positions. A security leak, perhaps.
Then came the second report. Ben Holloway, his colleague, delivered it with practiced calm. The bullets had grazed Justinâs left shoulder and abdomen. No arteries were hit, but the bleeding was severe.
Jack replied with steady resolve:
"Justin has Bombay blood. I confirmed it three days ago with Bellevue Hospital. They have a reserve."
Ben acknowledged it calmly, as if nothing had happened.
Justin was rushed to Bellevue, the nearest hospital. Jack called Elijah Kane, who was already waiting there. Secret Service agents, of course, never used apps like WhatsApp.
Before the first ring ended, Elijah picked up.
"Jack, itâs bad. We donât have the blood. The Bombay blood is gone."
Jack couldnât believe it.
"I confirmed it personally three days ago with the staff. Saw the blood bags myself."
After a brief pause, Elijah answered:
"The person in charge of those bags died in a car accident yesterday."
Anaya waited for her husband Arjun at Tot Ramen. Her college friend Mika (Sato), a Japanese artist, was with her.
As the waiter placed her bowl in front of her, her phone rang.
It was Bellevue Hospital.
Without hesitation, Anaya answered. Mika watched her with concern.
"Ms. Anaya Patel? This is Sasha Wilson from the ER. You may have heard, but the Republican presidential candidate was shot. We need your blood immediately. A Secret Service vehicle will pick you up. Please do not move."
Anaya turned toward the display hanging over the counter. A male reporter was broadcasting live from MSG.
At the entrance, a well-dressed man in a blue suit approached quickly.
"Iâm Rohan Shah with the Secret Service. Please come with me. The car is outside."
Just as he reached for her, Anaya's phone buzzed again. The caller ID was unknown.
"Hello?"
"Ms. Anaya Patel?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"Jack Vance, Secret Service. I'm almost there."
"How do you know my location?"
"Weâre professionals. We have ways."
"But the agent is already here."
Jackâs urgent shout rang through the phone: "NO!"
The man before her drew a rifle from inside his suit and aimed it at her forehead.
A soft gunshot echoed inside the restaurant.
Anaya froze in shock, unable to speak. The man collapsed to the floor.
Then Arjun appearedâher husband, pointing a gun at her.
"Freeze! FBI!"
Several NYPD officers and suited FBI agents stormed in.
"Everyone down! Hands behind your heads!"
Classic movie dialogue. Anaya was trembling. So was Mika. But probably no one was shaking more than Arjun.
Moments later, Jack burst into the restaurant.
"Anaya Patel!"
Without looking up, she answered:
"Yes, thatâs me."
Jack wiped sweat from his brow, lifted her up, and said:
"Weâre going to the hospital."
At the hospital, Elijah sent Jack a message with a link.
Jack tossed his phone to Anaya in the passenger seat:
"Open the link!"
It was a live broadcast.
"Good evening, New York. And Los Angeles. My name is Zakaria Haddad. Thatâs my real name.
I used to live in Gaza. Now, I'm in a room modeled exactly after your Presidentâs office."
Zakaria, a brown-skinned man with a beard, sat calmly in a chair identical to the Oval Office's.
He glanced at his watch, then back to the camera.
"Thereâs about to be breaking news. Watch your smartphone alerts."
Seconds later:
BREAKING: Former Democratic President Owen Reid shot at Los Angeles Convention Center.
Zakaria smirked and said:
"A sad alert, isnât it, America? But donât be too sad. What I went through in Gaza was 55,000 times worse. We lost more than 55,000 loved ones. And cried tears we couldnât stop."
He bowed his head, clenched his fists, and pounded the desk.
When he looked up, his eyes were wet.
"We seek no money. No glory in death. We only ask that you cry as many tears as we did. Only tears can heal what we lost."
He placed his elbows on the desk, rested his chin on clasped hands, and closed his eyes.
His eyelids trembled slightly.
"I'm just one of the 55,000. If I vanish, 50,000 more remain. Our will cannot be silenced. I'm here to declare it."
From the drawer, he pulled out a Glock 17, chambered a round, and aimed it at his temple.
As a Sunni Muslim, he looked into the camera and said dryly:
"God bless you, America."
He closed his eyes and pulled the trigger.
The screen went black.
The corridor to the ICU was tightly guarded.
Jack handed Anaya to Sasha.
Sasha had her sign a consent form and led her to a bed.
The bed next to hers was enclosed in vinyl sheets, a man inside, barely recognizable as the candidate.
Sasha gave detailed instructions to the staff.
Vital monitors, oxygen equipment, ventilatorsâevery machine had someone watching it.
A nurse wiped Anaya's arm with disinfectant and inserted a needle.
Blood flowed into the tube.
Direct transfusion is usually avoided due to infection risk, but Bombay blood is an exception.
Anaya had signed, understanding the danger.
She didnât feel it yetâthat her blood was saving a life.
She stared up at the ceiling and breathed deeply.
She had only come to eat ramen with Mika.
What would happen to Arjun? Who had he shot?
As these thoughts swirled, sleep took her.
Justin's father, Cyrus Rajan Bradford, emigrated from Mumbai in 1971 and served five terms as a Democratic congressman from New Jersey's 6th District.
He was shot while giving a speech in Union Square.
Justin, then a child, couldn't grasp what had happened.
The shooter was a young Democratâa white-collar idealist who demanded immediate healthcare reform. Cyrusâ gradual approach wasnât fast enough for him.
Cyrus, himself an immigrant, believed real change took time.
But little Justin just wanted to hug his father.
Even as he stopped breathing.
He believed the hug might bring him back.
Justin never forgave that man.
Cyrus Rajan Bradford:
"We must dream big, but move forward step by step. Sudden change only divides society. Democracy means lifting the voices of the unheard and walking together."
Anaya and Mika drove from Paramus, New Jersey, to Williamsburg for the Artists & Freeze weekend event.
Mika had come from Japan to study at Montclair State University and admired Anaya's black-and-white drawings.
Anaya used pencils, pens, and everyday stationery to draw portraits and scenes.
Mika, who painted vivid oil works, was drawn to the simplicity of Anaya's work.
In the campus cafeteria, Anaya once told Mika:
"The place I grew up was barren. No green. No rivers. Just dry wind and sand. But I didnât hate it."
She poked at her ham and eggs.
"There was nothing but paper and pencils. Thatâs all I had."
She smiled gently at Mika.
"But I felt I had to treasure it. Everyone on social media seemed so wealthy. But I didnât envy them. I wanted to show the world my own everyday life. Isnât it beautiful to share the place you love?"
Mika nodded deeply.
She had grown up in Kamiyama-cho, Shibuya, where the streets were quiet, lined with traditional homes, even as the rest of the district transformed with flashy ads and modern towers. That contrast shaped her art.
"The darkest hour is just before dawn."
Manhattan's dawn recalled that phrase.
When America fell into darkness, a trader once said it.
Amir had heard it from Zakaria, his professor at the Islamic University of Gaza.
Amir and Rafi Ghanem were both his students. They studied electrical engineering, electronics, and programming.
Understanding Americaâs weak IT networks was easy for them.
Zakaria helped scatter families of Gaza's 55,000 dead across the U.S., waiting.
Rafi and Amir were among them.
They had lost wives, lovers, families.
Those in darkness find no light.
Only those who gather at the bottom of the abyss, resolved, can rival true powerâeven the U.S. presidency.
Rafi had begun building a pirate radio two years earlier.
Using Caribbean and Hispanic immigrant communities as cover, he revived ancient communication: one-way broadcast.
They carried smartphones but used them only for idle talk. Nothing sensitive.
Rafi pressed the switch.
A tiny click was swallowed by the night.
A red lamp glowed.
The voltage meter twitched.
At exactly 2 a.m., on FM 87.9, a womanâs voice read poetry:
"If the world ends,
I want to be singing,
Alone."
To be continued...

British Airways G-EUNB, an Airbus A318 in business class only, operating flight BA001 ( the old Concorde trip number ) morning service from London via Shannon, Ireland to New York is seen landing at Shannon Airport to complete its US Customs clearance & refuel for its onward transatlantic journey.
With just 32 seats , BA001 arrives into New York as a domestic arrival having completed border controls at Shannon & as quoted by a passenger " seven minutes from aircraft seat to taxi seat ".
From London City via Shannon to New York pre customs
From New York via jet stream to London & no refuel at Shannon
Using the smaller Airbus A318-100, thanks to its steep approach compatibility, can fly long haul from London City airport.
BA had two Airbus A318's for this uniqiue service, G-EUNA & G-EUNB operating twice weekday departures from LCY, via Shannon on westbound service for refuelling & US customs clearance. The service was cutback to one daily weekday service & G-EUNB was disposed to Titan Airways in 2017.
In July 2020, following the downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, BA confirmed the service, which had been suspended in March 20 but due to return in September would not return & the sole 318 would leave the fleet.
Truely the end of the BA Babybus using those iconic Corncorde BA1 BA 2 trip numbers.

Columbia Point Residences, a redevelopment of an old warehouse district near the piers of Red Hook that look south over New York Harbor, sat with Williamsburgâs commercial and arts quarter to its north, a reclaimed stretch of landfill between them transformed into a quiet new neighborhood of low-rise detached houses.
On the freshly paved streets the laughter of children echoed, and the soft afternoon sun gently lit the roof tiles and white exterior walls. The wind carried a cool, saline scent from the sea, and, far off in the harbor, a shipâs horn punctuated the calm.
Residents were building new lives here, apart from the cityâs daily tumult.
At three in the afternoon the light was still mild, gilding the leaves of the street trees. Marinersâ Rowâthis new residential enclaveâpresented itself with almost calculated perfection: rows of white houses, straight sidewalks flanking them. The scent of new construction and still-wet paint hung faintly in the air.
Mark Sanchez stood by the large living-room window and imagined a happy future for his family.
His unit, ERO, was the field force within ICE responsible for immigration enforcement and removalsâhardened by the harsh realities of carrying out deportationsâcontrasted with HSIâs international-crime investigations. But here, behind the glass, he was simply a father and a husband.
Rachel had begun preparing dinner in the kitchen. Childrenâs voices drifted from the distant school-bus stop.
â Calm. Perhaps life is distilled on a Sunday at three in the afternoon, â he murmured inwardly.
The afternoon light slanted more and more; shadows reflected in the window stretched. On the neighborhood street, an old man walked slowly, pushing a cart as he walked his dog. The crossing laughter of children made that scene seem like an emblem of a gentle, innocent world.
Inside the house, the children were absorbed in play, and Rachel greeted them with a smile. The outside air was mild, the breeze only slightly warm; curtains swayed softly.
Mark opened the front door and checked the mailbox. There were notices about the new school and an announcement for a local disaster-preparedness drill.
At three in the afternoon, as the second hand crept forward, silence deepened.
Beside the houseâs foundation concrete there was a faint tremor.
In the afternoon hush, the harbor horn and the rustle of leaves in the breeze filled the soundscapeâsounds that masked a subtle detonation so that the surrounding residents did not notice. Smoke rose slowly; there was no fierce blaze at the moment of explosion, only fine dust quietly filling the air. The collapse did not happen all at once but proceeded slowly and inevitably. Part of the exterior wall developed quiet fissures; glass trembled and fractured into fine shards. Wooden posts toppled one by one without a sound, the house crumbling inward as if in a muted dance. A small shock set off a chain reaction of charges that dismantled the structure from withinâsilently yet surely. The exterior split without fanfare; windows became powder; wooden supports began to fall.
But the noise had been suppressed to the greatest extent possible; the neighborhoodâs residents scarcely noticed anything had occurred.
In the distance, silhouettes of buildings slumped and settled. Not only Markâs house but a blue house about three hundred meters across the street, and a white house further in, kicked up clouds of dust.
Three houses vanished in an instant.
The wind halted for a moment; only the leaves of the street trees trembled.
Marinersâ Rowâs afternoon regained its former stillness, as if nothing had happened.
Yet everything had changed.
By planting small, distributed charges of C4 at several points in the foundation concrete and detonating them in precisely timed, ordered sequences, the shockwave could be minimized while the skeleton of the structure was collapsed from the inside.
Rafiâs knowledge of architecture had made possible not mere destruction but a âquiet collapse.â
âUse only the force thatâs necessaryââthat was his credo.
From a rooftop some distance away, Rafi watched the scene unfold; a deep silence flowed through his chest. For him, it was both an outcry and a prayer. The silence dwelling in destruction was the expression of his tangled feelings.
From childhood, Rafi had found refuge only in silence. The clamor of children playing in Gazaâs dusty alleys, the thunder of airstrikesâthese had only wounded him more deeply. In a rundown corner of Gaza, the small Rafi leaned against a wall. When the roar of bombardment receded, the brief stillness was a salvation.
His motherâs tears, his fatherâs angerâthe chaos of it allâthe boy sought only a place without sound. He fled inward to a world without noise.
Tinkering with the innards of a broken radio with small hands, Rafi first understood the relation between destruction and quiet. A ruined radio, after it lost its sound, simply remained there in material form, silently.
As he grew, his inner life knotted into complexity. He studied architecture at the Islamic University to make shapes and manipulate structures as a way to steady the disorder within him. Even the days bent over blueprints failed to soothe the quiet madness hidden under his skin. When he faced a building plan, his hands trembled; in his head the calculated beauty of structure mixed with the cool cruelty of demolition.
Then he found a method to produce the silence he had once sought: planting bombs.
For him, it was the only way to externalize his pain. The C4 placed silently at a buildingâs core crystallized the intersection of his desire to destroy and his thirst for silence. Israelâs attacks on Gaza had stoked his rage, but the true explosion had been nurtured in the quiet of his childhood. For Rafi, releasing explosives without sound was a ritual of severing himself from the worldâs noise.
Rafiâs heart could find rest only in the stillness of destruction; he was trapped in a darkness no one noticed.
Without sound, unnoticed by anyone, he broke his world and obtained silence.
And no one knew that his cry was hidden within that quiet destruction.
Construction of Columbia Point Residences had begun in 2024. The three collapsed houses had been occupied by staff of the U.S. Immigration and Customs EnforcementâICEâand its Enforcement and Removal Operations, ERO.
They took off their uniforms, sat at these tables with their families. By day they detained migrants and sent them out of the country; by night they held children on their laps and drank beer.
To Rafi, those two faces were one mask. Smile and cruelty breathed under the same skin. It was almost impossible to discern the boundary. He had seen the light in those houses many nightsâthe silhouettes at dinner through the curtains, laughter. There were no faces of the detained among them.
Each night Rafi never missed the five prayers. His fingertips turned sacred pages of the Qurâan; Arabic verses rang in his heart. âTrue strength lies in patience; vengeance is entrusted to Godââthat phrase steadied him, lending calm. His anger was forbidden to flare; it lived quietly inside.
Recent news repeated the same refrain dailyââa million deported annually,â âmilitary bases converted to detention centers,â âraids even on pending family applicationsâânumbers passing through the broadcast with a dry sound. But behind those numbers were names: his motherâs name, his sisterâs name, the old man next door. Those names did not run on the news; they had no voice.
Rafi thought: this is not policy but selectionâsorting who to keep and who to cast aside on sheets of paper. His faith taught mercy and justice, yet the world trampled those teachings. âGod is the judge; we are only witnessesââhe repeated in his heart, while refusing to look away.
People in the city sought ways to lighten their lives. Yet tariff hikes made the very air heavy. Bread, nails, gasoline rose in price; sighs filled the shopping streets. Oddly, ICE and ERO garages always housed new vehicles; uniforms looked uncreased and shoes had thick soles. It was the result of budget and protection, the payoff for casting others aside.
Rafi kept calm. To erupt in emotion was to feed the enemyâs desire. So he hid his anger. The fire burning within him was tended like a vow to Godâsilent and steady.
Stories of neighbors taken in the night, a child crying as someone was seizedâeach one settled into him and became fuel. But it never flared. It only fed the coals and raised the burn temperature. From the outside, he seemed a gentle man. Inside, however, a balanced plan of destruction was quietly taking shape.
