Experimenting with upright handlebars on my Atlantis. I suspect the Atlantis' TT is too short for this cool bar because I'm feeling a bit cramped, even with the super-setback Nitto lugged seatpost.

My Atlantis has seen this Bosco Bullmoose, the Moustache, the Noodle, and the RM-013 Dirt Drop bars. So far, I think the DD is the winner.

The N+1 disease continues and yet another new bike finds itself in my stable. This time, it's a Rivendell All-Rounder shod with fancy Compass Rat Trap Pass tires. It will have a low 2x10 for more challenging mixed terrain rides that cannot be easily handled by bikes with 650b Rock n' Road tires. It may also serve some commuter duties. Well, at least that's my excuse for the spousal unit…

Cleaned up the bike and slapped on the dynamo wheelset, consisting of SP PD-8 front + White Industries MI6 rear (yes, both disc-ready) with Sapim spokes and Bontrager Valiant rims. The dynamo wheel is powering a Gen-1 Edelux I got on closeout from Boulder Bicycles and that light is augmented by a Dinotte 200L.

My XO-1 spiritual successor, the All-Rounder. It's on commuter duty and I've outfitted it with Compass Rat Trap Pass slick tires (26x2.3!) as a try-out. After using the RTP for a while, I don't recommend it if you ride mainly on paved roads as its "native" pressure is so low, it just gets wobbly/floaty when cornering; if you run a higher pressure to mitigate that, well, you may as well run Naches Pass tires and get fewer clearance headaches.

I'm updating the Atlantis, switching out some parts, in preparation for a 2-week tour. New stuff includes Nitto "Campee" racks, Nitto #151 short drop handlebars, and a refreshed set of SON+White Industries+Synergy wheels with Compass 26x1.8 tires. I even replaced the Al fenders with a fresh set of SS ones, and wrapped the Newbaums over spongy tape (with shellac, of course). Functionally, I slapped on a 12-34 cassette for a low, sub-20 gear-inch tree climbing gear.

DIY rack, honjo fenders

The Compass Rat Trap Pass tires are here. They're almost 54 mm wide and thus almost comically fat. They do ride really nicely and my initial pressures of 25/35 psi front/rear may be a bit high, based on how much the tire "sags" (Frank Berto's chart). I'll have to play around more with the tire pressure, although with that plush Fox F80X fork, I'm not sure it really matters.

Got out of work early today, to enjoy the nice weather and relieve myself from the stresses of the work week. The bike ride was nice and helped clear my mind of work problems (at least until Sunday night!).
