SCC collaborated with Spartanburg artists, Jeremy Kemp and Stephen Long (of Love Where You Live mural fame), Maggie Macdonald, and Adrian Meadows (SCC alumni) to develop and install a new mural on the Giles Campus Green that represents the College's commitment to Education, Community, and Innovation. The mural installation process was filmed as part of new series of commercials that will air later this summer. The mural is located on the side of the P. Dan Hull building and is accessible through the Green.

In recognition of his commitment to local service, retired businessman Philip Henry Abbott receives BC’s newest honour: the Medal of Good Citizenship. Known to most as Bud, the big-hearted Cranbrook resident was active for years in worthy causes, community theatre and has sung regularly at local seniors homes for over 40 years.

While walking to "Music in the Park" to try to capture an image for the Chaffee art Gallery photo contest I spotted the Rutland Fire Dept taking a little rest between fires.

I never made it to the park. This was a rare capture.

We begin the month by getting the calendar ready with the month's worth of activities. Normally, the calendar is overflowing with commitments and fun things to do with the kids. As I jot down the activities, I begin to see the many things that we won't be able to do. No playdates that cost money (meeting up at fast food restaurants, the mall, the bouncy house) and many solo activities that I would have loved to have been a part of (a mom's night out dinner & fundraising night at a local restaurant). I suddenly feel a little wave of melancholy and then a tad bit of guilt. I wanted to do this, it was my "grand idea" as my husband refers to this challenge, and day one has already greeted me with a little disappointment.

I think it will be time to get creative with my friends. Impromptu playdates at my house instead and coffee get togethers with my favorite friends at my house. I will have to embrace my New Year's Resolution this month for simplicty and maybe just enjoy some blank spots in those days instead.

We don't always see immediate results from our efforts.

These days, American Bald Eagles have been flying around the skies of Maryland with more frequency and the birds of prey, which live only in North America, are starting to call Maryland home. In early 2008, one pair of eagles created a great deal of concern over a nest they were building on BGE’s high voltage transmission line tower at Marley Creek. With an eye to balancing its commitment to environmental stewardship and electric reliability, BGE took the initiative to create a safe nesting platform for the eagles. This was the first time a utility in this country had ever relocated an American Bald Eagle’s nest.

The Carlisle Thundering Herd football team, lost Friday's non-conference game against Susquehanna Twp by a score of 35-6. The team had some good moments, but not enough to overcome their mistakes. The team needs some JUICE! If you've got JUICE, you're USEFUL. If you don't have JUICE, you're USELESS. Every team member needs to "DO YOUR JOB" and be more aggressive on both sides of the football. Do that and the winning will take care of itself.

These boaters are committed to safety. They even took the Life Jacket Oath to show just how important it is!

The 5Ks or kakkars or kakke are the five articles of faith worn by all baptised Sikhs. Many non-baptised Sikhs also begin on the path of Sikhi by wearing some or all of these Sikh symbols.

The baptised Sikhs both male and female are required to wear a uniform to unify and bind them to their commitment to the true, universal, social and temporal principles defined and amplified by the ten Sikh Gurus and laid down in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

This commitment was publicly announced, made prominent and confirmed by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 at the Vaisakhi gathering for all to witness.
