On an ecclesiastical note, one of the highlights of my young life, as a 6-year-old, was meeting Lawrence Cardinal Shehan, a year after Pope Paul VI had elevated him to the College of Cardinals, presiding over the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a Prince of the Church, as Cardinals are called. Chosen by Sister Dominic Marie to be our first-grade "ambassador" on his visit, along with eight other students, K through 8, we greeted him with our pastor, Fr. Adamac, and our school principal, then he stopped in each classroom, giving blessings. It was a big day in Little Bohemia.

This rest area near Upper Sandusky has almost comically tall light poles...
This is US Route 30 between Bucyrus and Beaverdam, Ohio. This is a divided highway with both interchanges and ground-level intersections. I am sure there is a technical name for this type of road, but I just call them "Hybrid Highways" since they have many design features of Interstate highways (like wide shoulders, interchanges, no signals / stop signs, and higher 65 or 70 mph speed limits) while also having features of other rural roads (such as lower traffic roads intersecting and the road being open to slow moving traffic prohibited from interstates).
I personally like this type of road, but they seem to be the most common in the northwestern part of Ohio. US 30 is built as this type of road from the Indiana border to Canton. There were once plans to continue US 30 from Canton to East Liverpool in a similar fashion, but those plans never materialized.

The Brown Pelican is a comically elegant bird with an oversized bill, sinuous neck, and big, dark body. Squadrons glide above the surf along southern and western coasts, rising and falling in a graceful echo of the waves. They feed by plunge-diving from high up, using the force of impact to stun small fish before scooping them up. They are fairly common today—an excellent example of a species’ recovery from pesticide pollution that once placed them at the brink of extinction.
Pelicans incubate their eggs with the skin of their feet, essentially standing on the eggs to keep them warm. In the mid-twentieth century the pesticide DDT caused pelicans to lay thinner eggs that cracked under the weight of incubating parents. After nearly disappearing from North America in the 1960s and 1970s, Brown Pelicans made a full comeback thanks to pesticide regulations.

I came back from SPX 2013 with a TON of comics (as well as two great podcast recordings). This is one of the problems of staying in the show hotel; if you bring your catch up to your room to drop it off, you may not realize how much you're buying. A couple of things were gifts, or I got a discount because people like me. Sighthounds are so comical when there's more than one 'bunny' to chase - they just don't know which to follow. Both ducks were safe and sound after this.
Looking somewhat comical with their rotor heads enveloped in spraylat encased storage covers,
ex US Navy Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King helicopters bide their time out in the Arizona Desert at AMARC aka 'The Boneyard', the Aerospace Maintenance and Recovery Center, located just outside Tucson.
On closer inspection, the central airframe, an SH-3H, Bu.Aer.No 148999 '66' from HS-4 squadron 'Black Knights' may look very familiar, especially if you ever saw the Tom Hanks movie, 'Apollo 13'!
Bearing those unmistakable 'Apollo' capsule stencils on her forward fuselage, '8999' was painted up to represent the real '66' in the 1995 Film.
Star of many Apollo mission recoveries when aboard the USS Hornet, the real '66' would appear and pluck those brave astronauts from the Pacific and lift them aboard the carrier to have their pictures beamed around the world before being taken home to mission control.
Unfortunately the real '66' (152711) was tragically lost while performing her normal every-day sub-hunting missions.
With the loss of all her crew, her remains lie at the bottom of the Pacific some 75 miles off San Diego.
'8999' stepped in to play her part and is seen here on the 13th of October 1996 amongst a throng of fellow SH-3's.
She was recovered and saved for posterity and is now on display aboard the Hornet Museum at
Pier #3, Alameda, California.

The original had comically large wheels and a disproportionate wheel base. I shortened the wheel base by three studs and the overall length by two and a bit, reworked the front end, tweaked the color scheme and lost all the playabiity of the original.

From watching Buzzards above the moors near Harden Moss to following a heron on the canal with a few comical goats thrown in I didn't have a bad weekend really. The Buzzards seemed to appear out of nowhere as usual, moving fast and flying high they took a bit of tracking. The heron on the other hand took an hour to walk from the other side of the reservoir to a point close to me. it stopped at an awkward angle for me to photograph it without me moving and being seen. It then did a short flight to the canal, I moved and sat on a parapet wall above a deep drop in to a canal lock. The heron skipped over the canal and came so close that I had to lean back as far as I could without actually moving and being seen just to get the bird in the frame. At times I could only get partial shots. It them flew past me, almost brushing me and landed nearby on the towpath. Fortunately on this Saturday evening it was quiet and as it walked along the towpath I shadowed it at a distance, it flew in to the canal and was eventually frightened off by dogs. My arms were killing me I'd been holding the lens and camera in front of me non stop for an hour, fighting the cramp in my left arm. The things we do.
The goats on the wall top were a bit of a distraction as I followed three Buzzards messing around in a field near a farm in the afternoon and I snatched a few shots, the one behind was headbutting the others from behind to make them keep moving, very comical.

About
What’s a wombat? Wombats are one of the oddest-looking animals you’ll ever see! Native to Australia, the comical animals look like short, stocky bears. But wombats are really marsupials, related to koalas and kangaroos. They are either sandy brown or grayish black to blend in with the landscape and avoid predators. The sturdy wombat is most active in the early evening and at night.
There are three species of wombat: common, or bare-nosed wombats, which have a bare nose; and two species of hairy-nosed wombats that have, well, hairy noses! The common wombat has coarse fur and short, round ears while the hairy-nosed wombats have soft fur and much larger ears. Although wombats look cute and cuddly, they tend to have a short temper and can become very aggressive if they feel threatened.
Can you dig it? Well, wombats can! Wide, strong feet with large claws make the wombat a master at “digging it”! From the burrow, they create impressive tunnels underground that lead to sleeping chambers. They dig with great zest and energy, moving up to 3 feet (1 meter) of dirt in a single night. The burrow usually has one entrance but then branches out into several tunnels that can reach up to 650 feet (200 meters) in length. The common wombat remains fairly solitary in its burrow home, but the southern hairy-nosed wombat often shares its home with up to a dozen other wombats.
Habitat and Diet
A mighty rear end: The common wombat is the most numerous and widespread, living in forests along the eastern coasts of Australia and in the island state of Tasmania (part of Australia). The two hairy-nosed species live in the dry grasslands of northern and southern Australia. Unfortunately, two formidable predators inhabit the same areas: the dingo and the Tasmanian devil.
Wombats walk with a waddle. They may look pudgy and slow, but they have powerful legs and can run up to 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers per hour) when needed! If threatened, a wombat dives headfirst into a tunnel, blocking the entrance with its sturdy backside. Wombats have a tough rear end with extra-thick skin and a teeny-tiny tail, so a bite to the backside is not much of a threat. They have been known to crush intruding animals against the hard walls and low ceilings of their burrows.
Like kangaroos, wombats spend most of their time grazing. They use their rodent-like teeth and very strong jaws to grip and tear food such as grasses, roots, shoots, tubers, and even tree bark. A special stomach gland helps wombats easily digest the tough food.
Wombats don’t need much water, getting most of their needed moisture from the plants they eat. They are often seen grazing at night, when their coloration helps them blend in, but they may also feed during the day if it’s cool and cloudy.
At the San Diego Zoo, the southern hairy-nosed wombats are given Bermuda grass, yams, carrots, dandelion greens, spinach, and turnips to munch on.
Family Life
Wombat females give birth to single young, called a joey, every two years. Like all marsupial females, the wombat has a pouch—but it opens toward the mother’s rear, rather than toward her head. This keeps dirt from filling up the pouch when the mother wombat is busy digging!
When the joey is born, it is the size of a jellybean and not completely developed. It must crawl from the birth canal into the mother’s pouch and attach itself to a nipple. The joey doesn’t even try to peek out of the pouch until it is 6 months old, and it stays in this pouch for 9 to 10 months of age, growing and getting all the nourishment and warmth it needs there. The youngster continues to return to the mother to feed until it is 12 to 15 months of age.
At the Zoo
The San Diego Zoo received its first wombat, a common wombat, in 1927. We have had four southern hairy-nosed wombats born here over the years, starting in 1998. The proud parents were Kindyerra, whose name means “grass” in the Australian Aboriginal language, and Kambera, whose name means “father.”
Conservation
In 1906, the Australian government declared wombats pests and encouraged people to kill them. From 1925 to 1965, some 63,000 wombat skins were redeemed for cash. Fortunately, this practice has stopped. Today, although the common wombat and southern hairy-nosed wombat populations are more stable than that of the northern hairy-nosed wombat, all three species face an uncertain future. Land clearing, habitat competition with cattle, poison bait set out for rabbit control, drought, road deaths, predation, and disease are all ongoing threats.
But the northern hairy-nosed wombat is in danger of becoming extinct. Currently, there are just over 100 individuals, all found in Epping Forest National Park, located in eastern Australia. Grazing sheep and cattle, as well as a long drought, have reduced the grasslands the wombat needs to survive. Dingoes killed a good number of northern hairy-nosed wombats in 2000, but in 2002, a fence was built around the Park to help protect this wombat species from predators. It is hoped this will help the wombat make a comeback.
In February 2009, bushfires raged through Australia’s state of Victoria, charring more than 1 million acres. Millions of Australian animals—including wombats—perished. San Diego Zoo Global helped to support wildlife rescue and rehabilitation work after the deadly bushfires.

The song & video feature the mighty talented duo of André 3000 (real name André Benjamin - that's also his professional acting name) and Kanye West (needs no introduction but his G.O.O.D Music record label is the one releasing Fonzworth's album).
All three, including Sa-Ra, the video director are dancing their souls out in this classic video that channels the cherished styles of The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Stylistics, etc.
