Well it's time to dig into the cardboard vaults and dig out slides that have passed over for previous scans due to poor quality, dark days, or just, "eh"....etc...
Today at least we can make them to look almost like what we had seen when there. As you all probably know, I spent just about every vacation penny I had in the later half of the 80's decade in Quebec. I just couldn't get enough of the countryside, Alcos, people, Alcos, the food, oh, did I mention Alcos??
This first one I want to present was a rather dusty beast before feeding it into the digital darkroom. This is probably in my top 5 of all time train chases. It began at Thetford Mines, Quebec with this pair of "8700's" built as MLW intended them to be. Of couse, it was the only game in town, being Quebec Central's tri-weekly train from Sherbrooke, so the chase was on for the entire rest of their southbound journey to Sherbrooke. This was a roadside grad at Camp-Comfort. In reality, the twin RS-18's were the only disturbance across the lake. After the caboose passing, it was back into the comfort zone for the locals, especially after the 86' Ranger pick up spun tires and raised dust getting out of town right on the heels of the southbound!
This is Blueberry in one of the favorite cat baskets. It's musical chairs/baskets- even though we have LOTS of places for kitties to nap or hid- this one seems to be the favorite of many! Blue beat them to it today!
Blueberry is our 3 legged tuxedo. He lost his leg due to cancer of the foot a couple of years ago, but you would never know he only has 3 legs!

A brief stop past Kilchurn Castle to take Effie for a brief comfort break on the 4+ hour journey north from Loch Striven. The castle looked rather dour as usual, lurking in the grey and with power lines polluting the shot. But a three shot pano makes it a little more attractive. I love this tree covered (almost) island to the right of where I'm stood. It makes a most beautiful wild camp site, except there are loads of signs to say you can't (although I'm not sure the law in Scotland says you can't, if you want to) But the landowner can shoot your dog if you let it loose.

When I was recently visiting my parents I took a look at a watercolor painting that my Dad has hanging above the chair he sits in when he's reading.
It's one that I painted when I was something like 12 years old. I think it was the second watercolor painting I attempted. The first one, as I remember was sent to my Grandmother in Minnesota, and she had it framed and hung it in her living room.
I thought, "Hmm, that ain't too bad, maybe I can sneak it into my Flickr Photostream."
How sweet they are...some humans could learn a thing or two about the character of horses...they set fine examples.

Taken during a trip to the Cincinnati Zoo with my family where I got to do a little shooting with Lerxst Ohio
Just wanted to share this shot I made several years back ... it was kinda lifechanging for me then ... and as I reflect on it again in these times it's become significant once again ... I saw this guy practicing in a quiet corner of NYC's Washington Sq Park ... and later that nite when working on it ... the image became so impactful that it inspired me right then to go online and order a pocket trumpet ... I'd been away from my instrument for about five years ... but since that day and this image my horn hasn't ever been far from my side ... I was fortunate to know Dizzy Gillespie for more than 20 years ... and thru him got to know and play with many of the young NYC jazz players when I was a young jazz player ... and spotting this guy in the park brought me back to the joy and comfort that music had given me since I was 12 ....
Well ... since I don't have many opportunities to make new images these days ... last nite I re-worked this one from my past .... and it's impact and power struck once again ... and inspired me to purchase a keyboard and attempt to spend this time at home and try to re-learn the piano .... Just want to thank my parents and teachers once again for blessing me with the gift of music ... and my gratitiude to all of the musicians I've gotten to know , play with , befriend and shoot with my camera over these years for the inspiration and joy I've gotten from their gifts and performances .. and remember too that this time of solitude can be used to rekindle some of those forgotten passions that we never seemed to have time for in the past ....

I've been photographing birds and wildlife for about 15 years and I've only seen Goslings hitching a ride twice. Both times, it was rainy and cloudy (I guess that's why the goslings were all cuddled into mom).
