This image is from one of the better hikes in Petrified Forest National Park called Blue Mesa Trail. I would love to offer up some death-defying horror story of how I scrambled to a cliff edge and almost died for this image, but it would be malarkey (forgive the foul language). This is actually taken from a very safe and comfortable overlook with railings and everything. I know, where is the fun in that? So, yes, this composition is popular, Still, it is popular for a reason, and now I have my own version of this iconic scene. I actually had this same image with people down there too, but this seemed to much more true to the place. I feel like this landscape seems so alien, so inhospitable, that it is far better suited to be alone. I am sure many will argue it is indeed teaming with life, but it sure does not feel that way. So here you go. Alone. The only friend this strange place has is color.
Believe it or not this hand made mug has a very comfortable handle with a thumb rest incorporated into it.
CH IT Tobia (Italian Beauty Champion) feels very comfortable in the snow!
He has a dense, curly, woolly and waterproof coat.
He is Lagotto Romagnolo breed, water dog.
This is the only breed of dog that is officially recognized as specialized in truffle hunting.

I was surpised to see how comfortable this guy was to land right next to me.... I was crawling back (I was too close to the bird for the minimum focus distance of my lens) He did not start screaming and fly away as they so often do even when he realised I was laying there... perhaps he was so focus on the last meal of the day he wanted to handle the risk or did not really notice me or perhaps he just thought I was nothing to be afraid off. I think that we may have met ealier that day in a different area but in close by proximity of that zone. It is hard to be sure as all Great Blue Herons look alike. Anyway, I am sure we could have spent the night together, him sort of "hiding" in the trench created by the tidal movement and me just above sea level on dry land taking pictures. I did not take the risk to go down to his level as I did not want him to leave... so shooting from above a bit... something I rarely do but I really enjoy those situations where birds are completely at ease with the presence of the paparazzi.
Jeffrey seems to feel very comfortable in this rather awkward position.

Just for fun: last summer at the Stamford Nature Center, this little goat captivated me for a large portion of time. He was definitely the star of the farmyard; he was super friendly with the visitors, nibbling at the peoples sleeves and licking their hands...and even entertained everyone by running playfully about and headbutting his pen mates.
When he was suddenly tired, he walked over to a food bowl that a few fellow goats were eating out of, squeezed his way past them, settled comfortably into the bowl...the way Goldilocks settles into the Baby Bears bed...and just chilled. The other goats tried to nudge their faces under the silly goats body a few times in search of food, but our friend wouldn't budge. So they just kind of looked around and eventually sauntered off in search of something else to do.
This is an image that gives me a good chuckle anytime I come across it...silly goat :-)
