On 3/23/10 around 3:30 AM, this church at 217 Delmas Avenue, near Park Avenue, went up in flames. There are suppose to be condos built on the site and the church, which was 100 years old, was suppose to be worked into the development and be restored.
Demolition of the Victorians next to it had happened just a few days before the fire, which seems really odd with the timing that the church burns. There still is the demolition vehicles on the site.
The fire also killed power to many of the residents in the area and knocked out the Comcast service to many residents as well.
The entrance to the offices of the Comcast Center is surrounded by the huge HD screen which screens amazing images throughout the day. It is by far the best free entertainment in the city.
Here is a short video.
I had to go and get another box for the upstairs TV today, as Comcast requires a box as of Monday to get the Cartoon Network, AMC, and Style..We will need another box to watch Mad Men on our room TV. Thanks a lot Comcast. Funny thing is when you go into the Comcast building, the cashiers are behind bullet proof glass, and pass the boxes via one of those revolving type doors.
If you plug in a new cable modem to a comcast line and start a web browser, any address gets mapped to this setup page.
If you notice the download button, it maps to http:\\cdn/ComcastInstaller.hqx, in other words, it maps to a non-existent URL. You can't access any other URLs so you're stuck here. The tech support people on the phone seemed unconcerned that the site was broken for clients.

The reason we were putting up with this tonight was because my son wanted desperately to see the Alice in Wonderland exceprt in the middle of this show. When that came on finally, he was so disappointed he turned the television off.
Comcast Center is a skyscraper in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The 58-story, 975 feet (297 m) tower is the tallest building in Philadelphia and the fifteenth tallest building in the United States. Originally called One Pennsylvania Plaza when the building was first announced in 2001, the Comcast Center went through two redesigns before construction began in 2005. Designed by architect Robert A. M. Stern for Liberty Property Trust, the Comcast Center was delayed as the developers tried to get the Center designated a Keystone Opportunity Improvement Zone. The designation would exempt tenants from most taxes for fifteen years as a way to encourage development in disadvantaged areas. Giving the Comcast Center the designation was supported by many state and city officials who hoped to keep corporations within Philadelphia, but was strongly opposed by other building owners who felt the building would have an unfair advantage in attracting tenants. Even though the bill was not approved in the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2004, Liberty Property Trust went forward with construction.
At the beginning of 2005, the final redesign and its new name the Comcast Center was unveiled. The building is named after its lead tenant, cable company Comcast, which makes the skyscraper its corporate headquarters. Leasing 1,094,212 square feet (100,000 m2), Comcast takes up 89 percent of the building. The building features retail and restaurant space and a connection to the nearby Suburban Station. In Comcast Center's lobby is the Comcast Experience, which is a 2,000 square feet (190 m2) high-definition LED screen that has become a tourist attraction. Designed to be environmentally friendly, the skyscraper is the tallest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building in the United States.
I was told by a COMCAST contract representative, Sean Brewer (1-650-921-3943) that it would be a FREE 30 day trial, after 29 days I am told I owe $88.64 and they don't offer ANY free trials. The Comcast user interface is slow and non intuitive. Tivo and DirectV are much better with a clearer picture also.
