HFF! In my wanderings through Columbus, I found this unusual sculpture of a deer looking over the Scioto River from a bridge. Just had to photograph it. And now I know more about it! ( www.columbusnavigator.com/scioto-deer/ ) We're leaving tomorrow to visit family in California - first trip out that way in two years. Excited to be able to travel again, and especially to see family! Hopefully when we're back we'll have more photos to share here.

Captain Alonso Pinzon was the owner of the ship Pinta, the fastest of the three ships (Santa Maria and Niña) with which Christopher Columbus set out on the voyage to - as he believed - East Asia and Columbus' favorite ship. American land was sighted for the first time from aboard the Pinta on October 12, 1492, probably the island of Guanahani on the northeastern edge of the Bahamas. Why landed Pinzon in Baiona, Galicia? He wanted to be the first to tell the Spanish king, that he and not Columbus found the way to >India<. In Baiona you can see a replica of the ship >Pinta<.

One of the famous intersections in San Francisco and a great place to do a little people watching. Not coincidentally, I found some people to watch, and a few buildings as well.

Here's the holiday streetscapes in Columbus, Nebraska. It was mist all day, and continued into night. So, I decided to grab the opportunity to snapshot with that kind of the weather I have been waiting for.

Columbus OH doesn't exactly come to mind when you're thinking about travel destinations. I believe most would regard it as a rather boring mid-sized state capital and college city, but I'm here to tell you that it's much more than that. As someone who likes exploring unique destinations, Columbus, Ohio has captured my heart as an underrated gem. Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, this vibrant city has so much to offer, yet often goes unnoticed on the travel radar. Let me share with you why I believe Columbus deserves more recognition as a fantastic place to visit.

One of the things that truly sets Columbus apart is its vibrant arts and culture scene. I was pleasantly surprised by the city's rich cultural offerings. The Columbus Museum of Art and the numerous art galleries made me realize the city's creative pulse. When it comes to food, Columbus does not disappoint. The city has experienced a gastronomic renaissance in recent years, and it shows. From cozy farm-to-table eateries to trendy international restaurants, Columbus caters to every taste.

Beyond its cultural and culinary allure, Columbus has a rich history that is reflected in its architecture. Exploring the majestic Ohio Statehouse, an impressive Greek Revival-style building, gave me a glimpse into the city's storied past. I also took a leisurely stroll through the historic German Village, where beautifully preserved brick houses transported me back in time. The combination of history and architectural beauty created an enchanting atmosphere that made me appreciate the city's heritage.

Columbus surprised me with its wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities. Despite its size, the city has an extensive park system that invites residents and visitors alike to embrace nature. The Scioto Mile, a scenic riverfront area, offered a perfect setting for views of the city skyline, perfect for photography, walking, biking, and even paddleboarding. The city's commitment to preserving green spaces and promoting outdoor activities is impressive.

Columbus, Ohio, is an underrated destination that deserves more attention from travelers, with something for everyone.

MRL R-LAUBOZ passes the nearly century-and-a-half old wooden depot in Columbus, Montana with only six cars for Bozeman. It is highly likely that this depot dates back to when the Northern Pacific built westward across the Yellowstone River in the 1880s.

This colonial-style mansion in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s old town in north Gran Canaria is known as the Casa de Colón (Columbus’ House).

The mansion belonged to the first governors of Gran Canaria and was where Columbus stayed during his stops in the Canary Islands on his way to the Americas.

Here is a view of downtown Columbus from the Main Street Bridge. We were very lucky to have minimal wind early this morning, and the still water made for almost perfect reflections.

The fountain, which was co-created by Taft and architect Daniel Burnham, was influenced by a fountain designed by Frederick MacMonnies that was displayed at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. This work depicted a figure of Columbia sitting on a ship with a figure of Fame standing on a ship prow holding a trumpet and a representational figure of Time dominating the stern.
