We have been hiking in to some pretty awesome water falls this past couple of weeks. This one was only a 2 mile round trip hike. WHY have we not known about this before!!!??? It was so gorgeous. I am sure I will be posting some of the other angles of it. Playing with a new filter, so not that great of white water, but I am getting the hang of it.

Latourell Falls, nearly 250 feet tall, is one of several major waterfalls in the Columbia Gorge east of Portland. A slow shutter speed was used for this shotl.

This is Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia Gorge, Oregon. It’s been getting overgrown as of late. I agree with the restoration project that is letting it return to a natural state, but the downside is that vegetation is slowly obscuring the waterfall.

I made it to the Dalles Mountain Ranch in Washigton in the Spring for the first time since 2018. I am happy about that.

Horsetail Creek is dropping over Ponytail Falls (aka, Upper Horsetail Falls) into a dazzling green and cool ravine.

This photo is from spring of 2013. In 2017 the Eagle Creek Fire ravaged much of the waterfall area on the Oregon side of the Columbia River gorge. Some trails have been re-opened, but many are still closed. And of course the forests have yet to grow back.

Here's a slightly different comp from the previous, with a slight Orton effect added for a dreamy vibe.

I had been meaning to get a picture of this spot on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge. I think it’s Wind Mountain. I used a little Orton Effect to liven things up.

This is one of my favorite places. I had the Twirly Camera out for a spin in late October. It's always interesting to see how that camera will "see" any given scene.

I was in the Gorge last Saturday for what turned out to be a very short hike. I went out too late to make it to Upper McCord Creek falls, but I wanted to get a decent way up. That was not happening, because the rain started in earnest, and darkness was falling by the time I made it about a quarter mile. That's okay. I got this picture.

Columbia Gorge, Washington

Douglas Fir trees from my deck, four miles away

I saw this tree while hiking to Starvation Creek Falls. It was growing sideways out of the ground with an incredible array of leaves and green growth.

The March sun setting on the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge. The waterfall loop gets all the attention but the arid eastern end hold may wonders as well.

Long exposure looking into Oneonta Gorge.

I just keep wondering what mysteries lie just around the corner in the narrow canyon above this gorgeous waterfall...

Early snow in the Columbia river gorge, OR.

Columbia Gorge, Oregon

Horse thief butte on the Washington side of the Columbia gorge.

wind that would blow you down the hill, that (if you tried to fall into it) would keep you suspended in air, that made the car feel like it was going tip over, that woud untie your scarf, that struck fear into the hearts of innocent tourists, that would make you laugh uncontrollably, that kept you cowering against the side of the wall, that was so strong you could see it ... I don't know the exact MPH, but it was stronger than anything i've personally ever felt.

wiesendanger falls in the Columbia Gorge OR. (and yes for those that recently visited here, I cloned out the log that is in the waterfall)

The view from up on Hwy 14 overlooking the gorge on the Washington side.

This one was taken in fall at Panther Creek Falls in Washington. The flow was pretty good at the time, so crossing the creek to get this vantage point was a bit scary. I did a dry run without my equipment before I crossed the water with my gear. That’s about as much drama as I can possibly come up with. Oh, the water was cold too. Yeah, that.

This is from last summer. Gaia and I did a short walk on the Historic Columbia Highway trail, and I had the infrared camera along. It will get warmer in a remarkably short time. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it is not an oncoming train.
