Colossians 3:12, 14

“So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” Colossians 2:16,17

23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 66:23

Colossians is saying;

We are to keep God's festivals as they are a prophetic voice of future events,-(a shadow of things to come) as YHVH has His appointed times-Moed

What was unclean=not food is still not food into the coming kingdom. From the oral law that was given to Noah through the law given to Moses for all Israel, continues through to the coming kingdom of Yeshua- Genesis 66:17 Micah chp 4)

Acts 10:9-28 is talking about 'men' and not food, God was not getting Peter to break His laws, Acts 10:17-28)

Mark 7:7-23 is talking about the heart of man

'purging all foods' food is food as given in Leviticus chp 11 and Deuteronomy chp 14 unclean is not food. This is where food is sanctified by the Word of God and by thanksgiving in prayer, as stated in- 1 Timothy 4:4,5

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

When the LORD returns, eating swine's flesh the abomination and the mouse= all unclean, not food -Isaiah 66:17 will face God's judgment Leviticus 11:7,29. to eat these things is sin.

Leviticus 11:22

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven Matthew 5:17-

(Has heaven and earth passed away? then His law remains until that time. There will be a new heavens and a new earth after the thousand year reign of Yeshua in Jerusalem)

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law Romans 3:31

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. Isaiah 8:16

Revelation 12:17 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 6:17,18 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Veeries are inconspicuous forest birds except for their beautiful downward-spiraling song, which they give often in late spring and summer, especially at dusk and dawn. They forage on the ground and logs for invertebrate prey, somewhat in the manner of American Robin or Hermit Thrush, peering around, then moving a short distance and repeating the process. You may also hear their distinctive, scolding call note, a harsh veerr usually given from a hidden nook.

It is finely the beginning of waterfall season here in Minnesota which is always a very exciting time to me. I am reminded of how Christ makes everything new and breathes life into our dead lungs. For all things are made for Him and through Him which is stated in Colossians chapter 1. I am thankful for springtime and for warmer temperatures that are on the way. Have a blessed week everybody!

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

The New Testament makes clear that creation was mostly done by God the Son (John 1, Colossians 1, other passages).

The creation of the universe, however and whenever it happened, was, indeed, "great" and "wondrous!"

Keeping Sabbath is the start, to be fed with the heritage of Jacob thy father-Isaiah 58:13,14 Remember Ephraim would become a multitude of nations-Goyim Gentiles Gen 48:19 Abraham would become the father of many nations, the seed of Abraham by faith in Yeshua.

The Sabbath day was never lost by Judah, after the 70years in Babylon, the exact dates-days months of the return(actions) are given in Nehemiah Ezra. Sabbath is from Friday evening to Saturday evening. The Sabbath is kept in the coming kingdom- Isaiah 66:23. Yeshua is Lord of the Sabbath. Gen 20:8-11) Don't let anybody judge you in keeping Sabbath, new moon etc. Colossians 2:16) The sabbath is perpetual from Genesis to the coming kingdom of Yeshua, the law also will go forth from Jerusalem. Feast of Tabernacles in the coming kingdom & passover- Feast of unleavened bread will all be observed/kept. Same as dietary laws Leviticus 11;7 & Isaiah 66:17 are all required to be kept when Yeshua returns.

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. Proverbs 6:16,17

Abortion- shedding innocent blood, brings God's judgment.

Ireland as many of the world's countries today has innocent blood on it's hands. The pinnacle of God's creation on earth, man, is violently ripped apart in the womb by man's hands, a place where God forms a person created in His own image. Galatians 1:15,16

Ecclesiastes 12:14 ''For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Numbers 35:33'' So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. Shed innocent blood has a voice before God-Genesis 4:10

Ezekiel 14:13 ''“Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:”

2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

9 Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

10 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

Ish 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; Ish 40:21

Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

John 15:27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

(1 Corinthians 12:12 'For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.')

1 Corinthians 12:21 'And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.) Ephesians 5:30 'For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.)

In Ephesians 5:23-32--When Christ loves His church/body, He loves Himself--look at verses 28 & 32) This great mystery is revealed--Ephesians 3:1-5)

Isaiah 42:8 'I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another' Yet Christ gives His glory to His body, because it's part of Himself-John 17:22, He doesn't give it to another, because He gives it to Himself--His Body. Chosen in Him, by Him and for Him.

1 Corinthian 6:17 'But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.'

God created man in His own image, our spirits were in the Father from the beginning, that's what John chapter 17 is all about.

Where was Eve before she was formed? in Adam. Likewise we were in the second Adam-Yeshua before the foundation of the world. Thus in our regenerated state through the Word-Yeshua we might be partakers of the divine nature- 2 peter 1:4) God is a spirit, likewise man has a spirit that comes from God, that's regenerate man's origin--he that is of God hears God's words.Job 32:8)

Chosen in Yeshua, chosen by Yeshua, those chosen in Him are part of Him, Christ is not only the head, but Christ is all the members of His own body the church, all members originate in Him 1 Corinthians 12:12, vs21) Hebrews 2:13,14)And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.-Ish 8:18) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Those in Christ are of God- come from God and return to God; ''the spirit returns to God who gave it.'' Isaiah 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

John 15:16 'Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you' 2 peter 1:10-give diligence to make your calling and election sure: ) Psalm 139)

(The LORD possessed me in the beginning of His way

In Proverbs 8:22 the word' possessed' here has an extensive meaning of, to acquire, to buy back, to redeem)

In the volume of the book its written of Yeshua

We also(His body) must find ourselves in the Word, this is where through out scripture, we can find glimpses of our election and calling, and being chosen by Him before the foundation of the world. The natural man cannot receive the things of the spirit, you must be in the spirit--read 1 Corinthians chapter 2) Remember the one in the flesh always fights against the one in the spirit.

As He is so are we in this world

From the womb of the morning--Psl 110:3)

“That at the name of Jesus/Yeshua every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;” Philippians 2:10)

Colossians 1:18 KJV: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

“For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,” Heb 2:11)

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Ish 46:10)

"When I am wronged, may I be Quick to forgive and when I do wrong, may I be Quick to ask forgiveness"

...and speaking of Quick....this Heron is searching for his dinner and as He intently watches and waits, when that moment comes, it is amazing to watch how Quick he is to grab his food. I watched this gorgeous Heron Quickly grab and swallow 3 good sized fish in about 5 minutes of fishing! I love watching these birds fish, they are amazing and incredibly graceful!

I hope your week is off to a great start and if not....well you can always push that restart button and begin again! Enjoy & have a wonderful day my friends!

At the Simmons home, Thanksgiving meal preparations are also underway. Koncedra Simmons has her daughter, Shasta, and her niece, Honor, helping with planning. Or, they're supposed to be...

Koncedra: Alright, here's what we have so far. Turkey two ways, baked and fried. Cornbread dressing. Collards. Butter beans. Mashed potatoes. Candied yams. Cranberry sauce. Caesar salad. What are we missing...

Honor: What about bread, Auntie?

Koncedra: MmHM! *taps fingernail on cabinet* What are we gonna do about bread?

Shasta: Any garlic bread in the fridge?

Honor: I don't see any.

Koncedra: Now, there is no way we're treating guests to store bought garlic bread. MmMM!

Shasta: Didn't you say we're having cornbread?

Koncedra: I said cornbread dressing. You think some biscuits might be good too?

Honor: Auntie, aren't the guests bringing food too? Have they told you what they're brining?

Koncedra: Yep, mmHM, but what they gonna show up with? We got Tracy Parks and her friends coming over and ain't no telling what crazy dish those girls gonna come up with.* So, you know we gotta plan like no one else is bringing anything.

Shasta: Hey, the more food the better.

Honor: Girl, you big!

Shasta: ... Excuse me, did you just call me big?

Honor: I literally just said, 'girl you big.'

Shasta: Oh, good, life lesson time. When scrawny girls learn why they shouldn't call healthy girls 'big.' It's a painful lesson. You ready?

Koncedra: I'm 'bout to come over there and give you both a life lesson if you don't help me focus. Lord God, I do thank you that we don't have a fightin' family. "How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" That's Psalm 133:1. Right from the Book, MmHM!

Honor: *giggles*

Shasta winks at her cousin. They've grown up together and love each other. BUT, if one of their fabled wrestling matches occurs in the living room later, a good headlock until Honor screams 'Auntie' at least four or five times is always satisfying.

The Key To Family Unity - Matthew 6:25-34

We live in a world full of dysfunction. Estrangement runs rampant among the citizens of this fallen society. And nowhere is it felt more acutely than within the family. All of us have seen or experienced intense conflict within marriages, between parents and children, and among extended family members.

But we shouldn’t be surprised. Jesus warned us to expect that kind of division:

From now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. (Luke 12:52–53)

Jesus was testifying to the reality of life in a sin-filled world—especially the strife that can result in a household comprised of believers and unbelievers. But even families made up entirely of faithful Christians can expect their share of conflict. Man’s fallen nature—and even its lingering effects in believers—will always default to selfishness, pride, greed, envy, and every other sin that promotes strife.

The biblical key to cultivating a sanctuary of harmony in your home: Godly forgiveness.

It’s hard to destroy a relationship if you continually forgive every offense. In Colossians 3:13 Paul says, “Bearing with one another and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone, just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.” It is godlike to forgive.

Beloved, a family is headed for major disaster if you continually accumulate hostility because of offenses, if you continue to allow bitterness to develop. But whenever there’s an offense and immediate forgiveness, it’s disappearing, it’s gone. That’s the key to any relationship. Children, the same toward your parents. Parents, the same toward your children. Brother and sister, brother and brother, sister and sister, it’s the same situation—forgiveness because that is like God. Practice the Godlike virtue.

No one would argue against the necessity of forgiveness. But how many of us faithfully practice this kind of aggressive forgiveness?

- John MacArthur, Adapted from The Key to Maintaining Family Unity

Could you use a good fish story today? Once upon a time there were these beautiful fish who lived five miles under the ocean. How do I know? They were the subject of a PBS television special. So this is a for real fish story. Because these fish are really striking - they are incredibly colorful - some folks thought they might look good in someone's tropical fish aquarium. So, they tried to bring these fish to the surface. They didn't make it. They blew up when they got near the surface! They were designed to live under that pressure at the bottom. No happy ending - except they're leaving the rest of them where they belong - five miles under the ocean. That's where they were created to be!

It really works this way in all of God's creation. There's an environment that things and people were created to be in, and things really work when they're in that place. They really don't work very well when they're not where they were designed to be. Thankfully, God makes very clear the environment you and I were created for, so we don't have to waste our lives searching for it. In fact, probably the single most important question you have to answer while you're on earth is this: Why am I here?

God answers that question in six simple, life-changing words in His book the Bible. Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Colossians 1:16. Speaking of Jesus Christ, the Bible says, "All things were" - now here are the six words - "created by Him and for Him." Try putting your name in that Biblical statement. Here we go. "(Your name) was created by Jesus and for Jesus." Just like those fish were created to be in the pressure of that deep-sea environment. Just like the earth was created to be in an orbit around the sun, you were created for Jesus. You were created by Jesus for a relationship with Jesus, where you live for Jesus.

All these years you've been away from the one that your heart's been searching for all along. Isn't it time to experience the relationship you were made for - to finally be where you were born to be?

Colossians 1:19-20 The Message (MSG)

18-20 He was supreme in the beginning and — leading the resurrection parade — he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone.

It was such a blast watching this amazing Osprey dive down with incredible precision and catch his lunch! Have a great weekend!

Wonderful footage of an osprey catching fish. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA3LtXnNIto

Hovering at moderate height, the osprey dramatically plunges down feet first to snatch fish from the water's surface. A shake of the head as it emerges from the water; the osprey carries its skilfully captured prey with its long talons.

This Osprey get's God's work Ethic:

*2 Thessalonians 3:10 "... If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat."

*Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

*Proverbs 14:23 In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

Colossians 1:19-20 MSG

So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe - people and things, animals and atoms - get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the Cross.

God made us alive, Christ and he forgave all our sins. he canceled the debts which listed all the rules we failed to follow.

Rhodes (/roʊdz/ ⓘ; Greek: Ρόδος, romanized: Ródos [ˈroðos]) is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is their historical capital; it is the ninth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Administratively, the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is the city of Rhodes,[1] which had 50,636 inhabitants in 2011. In 2022, the island had a population of 125,113 people.[2] It is located northeast of Crete and southeast of Athens. Rhodes has several nicknames, such as "Island of the Sun" due to its patron sun god Helios, "The Pearl Island", and "The Island of the Knights", named after the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who ruled the island from 1310 to 1522.[3]

Historically, Rhodes was famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. During the early 21st century the island was one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Rhodes is part of Greece but geographically is in Asia.[4][5][6][7]

Name

The island has been known as Ρόδος (Ródos) in Greek throughout its history. Similar-sounding ῥόδον (rhódon) in ancient Greek was the word for the rose, whilst in modern Greek the also similar-sounding ρόδι (ródi) or ρόιδο (róido) refers to the pomegranate. It was also called Lindos (Ancient Greek: Λίνδος).[8][9] In addition, the island has been called Rodi in Italian, Rodos in Turkish, and רודי (Rodi) or רודיס (Rodes) in Ladino.

Other ancient names were Ρόδη (Rodē), Τελχινίς (Telchinis) and Ηλιάς (Helias).

The Travels of Sir John Mandeville incorrectly reports that Rhodes was formerly called "Collosus", through a conflation of the Colossus of Rhodes and Paul's Epistle to the Colossians, which refers to Colossae.[10]

The island's name might be derived from erod, Phoenician for snake, since the island was home to many snakes in antiquity...Wikipedia

Reflect on today's Scripture: March 23, 2008, Easter Sunday: His Resurrection

Acts 10:34a, 37-43

Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23

Colossians 3:1-4

John 20:1-9

Easter has come suddenly, with a burst of light!

Now we know that Jesus stands by his promises! In a flash, Christ has changed darkness and death into light and life. Our journey through the struggles of Lent and the pain of Holy Week is over. With malicious sacrilege, evil has done its worst to the sacred body of God's Son. With Mary and John, we saw Him die. We wept at the tomb. Then, before dawn on Sunday, Christ broke through the rock, shattered the power of sin and, according to tradition, appeared first to His Mother, then to the women and the apostles.

As we listen to today's first reading, we hear one of Peter's very first sermons. The curious bystanders were astounded at the change in this man. He comes fresh from the fiery tongues of Pentecost, still in shock at the dream he had on the way to Cornelius' house. Nothing was to be considered unclean. So he is free to preach to Gentiles the Good News of God's forgiveness and freedom for all. Peter and the others are commanded to baptize any who believe in the Christ. So the word spreads through the whole countryside and beyond. Resurrection is the hope of every living person. No wonder the apostles preached with such courage and enthusiasm!

They preached about a God who cared first for people who were poor and powerless, a God whose love governed all His relationships. And He taught us to not only believe in justice, but to act justly.

The Scripture readings during these fifty days between Easter and Pentecost are among the most exciting in the Church year. We burst into "Alleluias" over and over, and joyfully shout "Christ has Risen" this Sunday. But more than just singing, we settle into a new time of reflection on our own program for resurrection in these very troubled times. After all, it is our mission to bring new life to a troubled world. If we don't do it, who will? So let's repack for travel!

As followers of the Risen Christ, the time has come for greater efforts on our part to influence politicians and others on all the vital life issues that are integral to the teaching of Jesus Christ—from abortion and embryonic stem-cell research to corruption in government and all institutions—to proper medical care for the sick and elderly. Jesus teaches respect for every human person, whether alien or citizen. We need to study the document of the Bishops on Faithful Citizenship. Hopefully, many of us will continue our Why Catholic groups. Faith and action begin with understanding and loving the teachings and plans for action of our Church. We have so much to do as hope-filled Easter Catholics. These are critical times, and we must not fall back into laziness or complacency now that Lent has ended.

Let's hope our spiritual blood-pressure is just a bit higher as we proclaim the Good News.

Christ is Risen, Alleluia!

Pope Urges Youth to Form Friendship With Christ, for this is Best Relationship Key for Responding to Modern World

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 19, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI greeted university students gathered for an annual conference sponsored by Opus Dei, and encouraged them to foster a personal relationship with Christ so as to be able to respond to the great questions of our time.

The Pope greeted in three languages the 3,000 participants of the international UNIV congress, gathered today in St. Peter's Basilica. He then gave the traditional catechesis during his weekly general audience in Paul VI Hall.

"I offer a cordial welcome to all of you who have come to Rome from various countries and universities to celebrate Holy Week together, and to take part in the International UNIV Congress," the Holy Father told the youth. "In this way, you will be able to benefit from moments of common prayer, cultural enrichment and a helpful exchange of the experiences gained from your association with the centers and activities of Christian formation sponsored by the Prelature of Opus Dei in your respective cities and nations."

The conference this year, which ends Easter Sunday, is focused on the theme "Being, Appearing, and Communicating: Entertainment and Happiness in a Multi-Medial Society."

The Pontiff reminded the youth that with a "serious personal commitment, inspired by the Gospel values, it is possible to respond adequately to the great questions of our time.'

"The Christian knows that there is an inseparable link between the truth, ethics and responsibility," he said. "Every authentic cultural expression contributes to form the conscience and encourage the person to better himself with the end of bettering society. In this way one feels responsible before the truth, at the service of which, one must put one's own personal liberty."

A commitment

Benedict XVI said this implies "a mission requiring commitment." And to fulfill this commitment, he affirmed, "the Christian is called to follow Jesus, cultivating an intense friendship with him through prayer and contemplation."

"To be friends of Christ, and to give testimony of him wherever we are, demands, furthermore, the strength to go against the grain, remembering the words of the Lord: You are in the world but not of the world," he added.

The Pope encouraged the youth: "Do not be afraid, then, to be nonconformists when it is necessary; at your university, school and in all places."

"Dear young people of UNIV, be leaven of hope in the world that desires to meet Jesus, often without knowing it," he urged. "To better the world, make an effort above all to change yourselves through an intense sacramental life, especially through approaching the sacrament of penance, and participating assiduously in the celebration of the Eucharist."

The UNIV conferences began in 1968, inspired and encouraged by Opus Dei's founder, Monsignor Josemaría Escrivá, who was canonized in 2002.

Colossians 1:15-20 J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

Who Christ is, and what he has done ...

Now Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God. He existed before creation began, for it was through him that every thing was made, whether spiritual or material, seen or unseen. Through him, and for him, also, were created power and dominion, ownership and authority. In fact, every single thing was created through, and for him. He is both the first principle and the upholding principle of the whole scheme of creation. And now he is the head of the body which is composed of all Christian people. Life from nothing began through him, and life from the dead began through him, and he is, therefore, justly called the Lord of all. It was in him that the full nature of God chose to live, and through him God planned to reconcile in his own person, as it were, everything on earth and everything in Heaven by virtue of the sacrifice of the cross.

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

EXPLORE March 13th, 2015

Have a GREAT & RELAXING Weekend my friends & hope you get lot's of great pics if you are out clickin' : ) We are headed out in the boat for fishing and photo-ing : )

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

"March 11, 1942, was a dark, desperate day at Corregidor. The Pacific theater of war was threatening and bleak. One island after another had been buffeted into submission. The enemy was now marching into the Philippines as confident and methodical as the star band in the Rose Bowl parade. Surrender was inevitable. The brilliant and bold soldier, Douglas MacArthur, had only three words for his comrades as he stepped into the escape boat destined for Australia: "I SHALL RETURN."

Upon arriving nine days later in the port of Adelaide, the sixty-two-year-old military statesman closed his remarks with this sentence: "I CAME THROUGH AND I SHALL RETURN."

A little over two and a half years later---October 20, 1944, to be exact---he stood once again on Philippine soil after landing safely at Leyte Island. This is what he said: "This is the voice of freedom, General MacArthur speaking. People of the Philippines: I HAVE RETURNED!"

MacArthur kept his word. His word was as good as his bond. Regardless of the odds against him, including the pressures and power of enemy strategy, he was bound and determined to make his promise good.

This rare breed of man is almost extinct. Whether an executive or an apprentice, a student or a teacher, a blue collar or white, a Christian or not---rare indeed are those who keep their word. The prevalence of the problem has caused the coining of a term painfully familiar to us in our era: credibility gap. To say that something is "credible" is to say it is "capable of being believed, trustworthy." To refer to a "gap" in such suggests a "breach or a reason for doubt."

Jurors often have reason to doubt the testimony of a witness on the stand. Parents, likewise, have reason at times to doubt their children's word (and vice versa). Citizens frequently doubt the promises of politicians, and the credibility of an employee's word is questioned by the employer. Creditors can no longer believe a debtor's verbal promise to pay, and many a mate has ample reason to doubt the word of his or her partner. This is a terrible dilemma! Precious few do what they say they will do without a reminder, a warning, or a threat. Unfortunately, this is true even among Christians.

Taste the encouragement in God's message to His people in Zephaniah 3:8-13 and chew especially His words about purified and truthful speech. Let them motivate you today to the highest standard---God's standard---of integrity.

Listen to what the Scriptures have to say about keeping your word:

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor. (Ephesians 4:25 NIV)

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Colossians 3:17 NIV)

LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?

Who may live on your holy hill?

He whose walk is blameless . . .

who speaks the truth from his heart. (Psalm 15:1–2)

It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. (Ecclesiastes 5:5 NIV)

When a man . . . takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said. (Numbers 30:2 NIV)"
