How can a country be free, when among others, this kind of mentality is still prevalent.

Happy Independence Day anyway.

So tired from work..

Just uploaded and would get back to your streams after some rest.

Sorry my friends.

Apparently a flock of gulls is actually called a colony. Who knew?

This pier is in Colonial Beach Virginia and the photo was taken on a very wet, gray sort of day. Just like today as a matter of fact! Colonial Beach is a small town in what is called "the upper neck" of Virginia and used to be a very popular destination for the residents of Washington DC but now that has all shifted to the Maryland beaches like Ocean City and Rehobeth. This is a small sand beach on the Potomac River.

The Horton House on Jekyll Island was built in 1743. The colonists burned oyster shells(CaCO3) to make lime(CaO) and then mixed lime, water, sand, and oyster shells. This mixture was poured into forms where it hardened into "tabby".

Major William Horton also used his chemistry skills in his brewery right down the road where he brewed Georgia's first beer.

A bit of History:

Diego de Almagro founded Santiago de Quito on August 15, 1534, later to be renamed San Francisco de Quito on August 28, 1534.

The city was later moved to its present location and was refounded on 6 December 1534 by 204 settlers led by Sebastián de Benalcázar, who captured Rumiñahui and effectively ended any organized resistance.[6] Rumiñahui was then executed on January 10, 1535. On March 14, 1541, Quito was declared a city and on February 14, 1556, was given the title Muy Noble y Muy Leal Ciudad de San Francisco de Quito ("Very Noble and Loyal City of San Francisco of Quito"), starting at this point its urban evolution.

In 1563, Quito became the seat of a Real Audiencia (administrative district) of Spain and became part of the Viceroyalty of Peru, until 1717 after the Audiencia was part of a newly created Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada. Its administration on both Viceroyalties remained to Quito. (see Real Audiencia de Quito)

As with other places colonized by the Spanish, the colonizers promptly established Roman Catholicism in Quito. The first church (El Belén) was in fact built even before the city had been officially founded. In January 1535, the San Francisco Convent was constructed, the first of about 20 churches and convents built during the colonial period. The Spanish converted the indigenous population to Christianity.

This colonial mansion has an intimate courtyard with an abundance of plants and trees surrounding a fountain. The front section houses shops, and there's a large patio with restaurants out the back.

During the Union Occupation of Savannah during the Civil War by Sherman and his troops, the Colonial Park Cemetery was used as a campground. The Union troops removed the headstones and those that were unable to be returned to their rightful place were placed along the wall.

Colonial Park Cemetery is Savannah's oldest public cemetery from 1750 to 1853. After which in 1896 it became a city park. The cemetery was expanded three times between 1750 and 1789 to its present six acre site in the heart of the Historic District. The cemetery has a rich history and is said to be haunted.

Had an opportunity to see Colonial Williamsburg right after a heavy rain. If you haven't been, I highly recommend making a visit.

Macau is always fun to visit. You get the feel of the old colonial times, as well as the bustling casino life. This shot is from the old part of the town facing the Grand Lisboa hotel.

A similar photo called "the Invasion" by Hong Kong based photographer Paul Tsui’s went viral last year.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
