Severinsbrücke + Kölner Dom

“Cologne, a 2,000-year-old city spanning the Rhine River in western Germany, is the region’s cultural hub. A landmark of High Gothic architecture set amid reconstructed old town, the twin-spired Cologne Cathedral is also known for its gilded medieval reliquary and sweeping river views.” My great-grandfather was from Cologne, so the beautiful city that we visited several years ago seemed very special to me....

Happy Window Wednesday!

From Wikipedia:

The Cologne Cathedral Window is the stained glass window in the south transept of the Cologne Cathedral designed by Cologne artist Gerhard Richter. On a surface of 106 square metres 11.263 glass squares in 72 colours of 9,6 cm × 9.6cm were principally arranged randomly, with others selected in response to architectural context.[1] The window was inaugurated on August 25, 2007 as part of a Eucharistic celebration; the abstract execution was both celebrated and strongly criticized.

in pandemic times Cologne is in a status of lockdown due to corona virus incidences. .Carneval sessions cancelled. Only gulls are free to fly where they want.

I don't know if there ever was Gold in Cologne, but if there was, they must have put it into this into this bridge. When I got close, I could see there is is another kind of gold on the bridge. It's full of padlocks hung by lovers. I have never ever seen so many padlocks in one place, as on this bridge. It's from one end to the other.

It would be better without the scaffolding. It does seem like it would be possible to eliminated it using Photoshop and cloning the other side. Maybe some day I'll get around to it. Have a happy Saturday.
