Big Boy stopped in Columbus, Nebraska on Sunday, June 11, 2023, for the 45-minute service stop as you can see the guys here maintain and oiling the steam locomotive with a hundred of people looking on.

The steam locomotive is currently in Omaha during the College World Series, parking just west of baseball stadium.

During its Omaha display, the public will be allowed to see the locomotive up close June 15-21 and June 24-25.

This steam locomotive will be returning to Wyoming after the college world series’ over; its will stop in Columbus for the service stop on Thursday, June 29, around 12:30 pm. I am not sure if I will be able to view and photograph the locomotive again. I will have to figure it out somehow.

UP 1616, the new Abraham Lincoln commemorative unit, leads the returning CWS train eastbound through Omaha, NE on the way to home base of Council Bluffs, IA.

UP 1990, ex-CNW 6857, leads up the CWS passenger train between Omaha Subs - coming off the BNSF Omaha Sub and onto the UP Omaha Sub - in front of the Amtrak/Burlington Station in downtown Omaha, NE.

UP's usual LNA01 power is seen here giving the CWS passenger train a push towards BNSF's Gibson Yard. Once there they'll pull the train up the BN's Omaha Sub to finally transfer back onto UP trackage by the Amtrak/Burlington Station. As seen from the top of my apartment building too, which is a fun vantage point to have. The graffiti on UP 1990, ex-CNW 6857, is rather unfortunate, but at least for me it's hard to complain about it with SD40s powering the company passenger train. Omaha, NE.

unfortunately I was traveling light and didn't have my ND filter so I couldn't get the great colors in the sky with a real good blur of the ferris wheel

Lightning vs Fireworks

After the Home Run Derby for the College World Series in Omaha Nebraska, the city holds a huge fireworks display over the stadium. The derby is held on Fouth of July weekend making the fireworks even more meaningful. This is the first year the derby was held at the new Ameritrade Stadium, and the fireworks were fantastic. It was actually difficult to get a clean shot of the fireworks because as soon as one set was done, the next was already up in the air.

Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium is a baseball stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. It serves as the home of both the minor league Omaha Royals and the annual NCAA Division I College World Series.

Since 1950, Omaha and Rosenblatt Stadium have become home to one of the unique championships in the US. No other town is as closely identified with one championship event as is Omaha with the College World Series. Every year, over 250 baseball teams around the country begin the season with the dream of playing in "The Blatt". 64 teams reach the NCAA Tournament, and the final eight left standing get to pack their bags for 10 days in Omaha. Rosenblatt Stadium, along with the entire city of Omaha, has become somewhat of a Mecca for college baseball.

After the initial contract between the NCAA and the City of Omaha, the parties quickly agreed to renew. Since then, the event has been held in Rosenblatt Stadium every year, and likely will remain there.

The City of Omaha has put tremendous resources into the stadium to accommodate teams and fans. In 2001 alone, more than $7 million was spent on the stadium. One of the main features was the addition of 10,000 new seats, bringing the total capacity to 23,145.

The series has grown so much over the last 20 years that this number is actually needed to fulfill the high demand for tickets. In 2004, 28,216 fans watched as Cal State Fullerton defeated South Carolina 5-3. In 2002 the mark of 5,000,000 spectators in the history of the CWS in Omaha was reached.

In 1999 one of its more renowned features was added to the stadium. In front of the main entrance, the local event organizers, College World Series of Omaha, Inc., placed the sculpture "Road to Omaha". Created by the local artist John Lajba, the sculpture shows three players celebrating by lifting one of their teammates in the air. (Wikipedia)

The TD America Fireworks in Omaha were spectacular this year. They took place just outside of the new stadium Saturday night after the College Home Run Derby. These were shot just North East of the park looking back towards downtown.

This is an HDR of the area just before the show.
