It's an early October day and unseasonably warm, so the instructor of this class at the University of Michigan has decided to take it outdoors.

It reminded me of my early days as a college professor when I had a summer class at Penn State that I regularly had meet in the grass on the Pattee Mall.

I don't know how large this class is or even the subject matter being taught, but I'm amazed at how many students have shown up for class on a Friday afternoon.

Similar to fungi, bacterial infections are also commonly found to be in an antagonistic relationship with leaves. Different bacterial infections thrive in different environments. This leaf of the Ticket Creeper vine, (located high off of the canopy floor) has different bacterial infections than the same plant’s leaves located closer to the canopy floor.

Although I am unable to identify the bacteria inhabiting this leaf the evidence of the parasitic relationship that is hindering the leaf is obvious. Common symptoms of a bacterial infection can include spots with a yellow halo, fruit spots, cankers, and/or crown gall.
