Euphorbia ammak or the African Candelabra is a fast growing tree-like succulent.
There are two varieties one with pale green stems and a variegated variety with marbled cream-yellow and pale blue-green stems. The thick, swollen stem and branches have 4 or 5 longitudinal wavy ridges. Along each ridge are evenly spaced pairs of horn-shapes spines.
When conditions are warm and wet small leaves are produced towards the top of each branch.
As with all Euphorbia the flowers are very tiny and undeveloped and found on the tip of each stem.
Euphorbia ammak is an impressive sculptural looking plant but it is will grow very tall, the spines are very sharp and the sap is poisonous and can burn the skin. Wear gloves and eye protection when pruning or moving the plant. 17221
Dee Why Beach runs for about 1.2 km along the eastern border, overlooking the Tasman Sea. To the north are the dunes separating the beach from the Dee Why Lagoon. At its southern end is the Ted Jackson Reserve (renamed from Dee Why Beach Reserve in October 2010), with picnic areas and century old Norfolk Island Pines, similar to the ones in Manly. A2K_508

I really missed my black borders and feel they really add to the impact of a shot so i made an executive decision and brought them back. On the computer screen i think they really work well. Pictures i feel need a simple framing of some sort both on the wall and on computer. My opinion of course ;)
Anyways. Ninos and i on the weekend headed out to collaroy to enjoy some much needed catching up. always a ball. Ninos was kind enough to sit in and be part of this shot. he is simply the best.
Couple of things im not happy about. My flash in front of me on the left did not fire and i also missed the beautiful colors in the sky. In all the rush i didn't plug in the cable to my trigger properly. There is always next time i guess.
Some time back i took my first picture of Ninos at North Curl Curl and mixed the 2 things i really enjoy in photography, strobing and seascapes. I must say im really enjoying the two together.
Strobist info - sb800 @ full power in reflective umbrella cto gelled, sb800 camera left at 1/2 power that didn't fire because of my stupidity, sb800 camera right at 1/2 power. All flashes triggered with cybersyncs.
Made another executive decision and decided to delete all black borders from my photo stream.
I also photoshopped the flash miss firing on the left hand side.

Collaroy Beach is a surf beach that adjoins Narrabeen Beach forming a long stretch of coast of New South Wales. Collaroy Beach also forms part of an accessibility precinct that includes an all-abilities playground and access to a FreeWheeler which provides wheelchair access onto the sand and the surf. Due to the long and open stretch of coast at Collaroy-Narrabeen, it is prone to erosion, especially during storm events. Beach has good swimming conditions. Excellent beach for beginner surfers. Good wind surfing in north easterly or south easterly winds. Facilities include rockpool, showers, public toilets, playground, picnic area, pay and display parking, accessible toilets, bus stop within 100m, barbecues, liberty swing, large enclosed playground, enclosed playground, wi-fi access points. 17234

After shooting the reef from a distance in my first shot, I walked around to the headland and watched with awe some amazing pastel colours appearing before my eyes. I had to get my feet wet to get this shot.
