Speldenknop

This is a small part of an exhibit at Birmingham Museum.

The artwork was done by Donald Rodney (1961- 1998) and titled as "Land of Milk and Honey II" Rodney was born in Birmingham. He used objects in his work to explore aspects of the human experience. His father migrated to Smethwick from the Carribean in the mid 20th century, in search of a better life in the "Land of Milk and Honey" The Vitrine contains coins and milk. They represent the 'sourced' reality many migrants actually experienced. The material he used will deteriorate and change over time.

I made this one-image photo using a two-axis, computer-controlled device. The coin was held in place using a banana clip and positioned on a rotary stage, while a linear axis moved the coin 35mm to the right. Both linear and rotary movements were made simultaneously, taking a total of 6 seconds. (X35 A55 F150)

Species: Regulus regulus.

The Goldcrest is the smallest bird in the UK, just 9cm in length, and weighs approximately 5.5g, which is the equivalent of a twenty pence coin. If not for the fiery orange stripe along its head, the Goldcrest would be a somewhat mute-looking bird, with nothing more than a dull greyish-green plumage with which to advertise its appearance.

Many thanks to people who view or comment on my photos.

Theme : "Coins" - April 22, 2020

The wee pot of coins found at the end of the rainbow, no gold just silver and copper in this one.

Left Team looks more motivated but I would definitely prefer to be on Right Team. In fact, I totally relate to the last fella on the far right; a little bit apart from the rest of the team, kind of staring off into space thinking about other stuff.

Coins are used infrequently nowadays as most of us rely on notes or card payments but in the past, they were very important, particularly gold and silver coins.

This is a history of the 20th Century Kings and Queens of England in silver coins. The first two are silver rupees from India, followed by two Australian silver threepences and finishing with Canadian silver dollar!

macro mondays: currency...I believe a Greek coin from a trip

Two or three weeks ago I put a photo into the Macro Mondays group that I called 'Staying Alive' where I used this 50 pence coin in a different composition. Well after I'd finished shooting that image I was about to clear up the patio table where I'd taken that shot when I noticed this bee on the ground. And you'll know what I mean when I say that you sometimes see bees on the ground that are very sluggish and almost unresponsive. This was one such bee. The gears started to whirl in my brain and I thought - Why not! So I gathered it up on a piece of cardboard and gently nudged it onto my coin and took a couple of quick shots. I then put him gently back onto the ground and let him bee...

So before anyone reports me, no bees were harmed in the making of this image!

The U.S.A 25 cent coin.

Another very cold winter day in Maryland allowed me some fun time with some coins, lightbox, and color prism. Hope you enjoy this series as much as I liked playing around with the light and angles of the light.
