Supporting and boosting brain function is essential for overall cognitive health and improved mental performance. Here are some scientifically-backed strategies to enhance brain function:

•Stay Physically Active: Regular exercise has numerous benefits for brain health. It increases blood flow to the brain, promotes the release of neurotransmitters, and enhances neuroplasticity.

•Eat a Brain-Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals is crucial for brain health. Include foods like fatty fish, nuts, berries, leafy greens, and whole grains.

•Get Adequate Sleep: Sleep is essential for memory consolidation, learning, and overall brain function. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.

•Mental Stimulation: Keep your brain active by engaging in challenging mental activities. Read, solve puzzles, play strategy games, learn new skills, or take up hobbies that require cognitive effort.

•Manage Stress: Chronic stress can have negative effects on brain health. Practice relaxation techniques, such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.

•Socialize: Interacting with others can stimulate your brain and improve cognitive function. Maintain strong social connections with friends and family.

•Limit Alcohol and Avoid Smoking: Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking can harm brain health and impair cognitive abilities. Minimize or avoid these habits.

•Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can negatively impact brain function, so make sure to drink enough water throughout the day.

•Brain-Training Games: While the effectiveness of specific brain-training games is debated, challenging your brain with various tasks can be beneficial.

•Supplements: Some supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and certain herbal extracts (e.g., ginkgo biloba), may support brain health. Consult a healthcare professional before adding any supplements to your routine.

•Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods: Diets high in sugar and processed foods have been linked to cognitive decline. Opt for whole foods and minimize sugar intake.

•Limit Screen Time: Prolonged screen time, especially on smartphones and computers, can negatively affect attention and memory. Take regular breaks and set time limits on screen usage.

Remember that a holistic approach to brain health, including physical, mental, and emotional well-being, is crucial for maintaining optimal cognitive function. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your lifestyle or starting any new supplements or medications.

Cognitives Exhibit

Cognitives Exhibit

Cognitives Exhibit

Students who are cognitively impaired focus on a curriculum that is functional and community-based. Much emphasis is placed on daily living skills so that they may contribute to society to the greatest extent possible. The Growing Green Garden will allow students to design, create and maintain a garden right on campus as part of their education. They will put theory (what they're learning in class) into practice as they use many skills to complete this project. Students will learn where food comes from, practical math skills as they will use the fruits/vegetables to prepare meals. They will use measurement skills. They will learn responsibility, job and life skills as a result of this project. This will bring them closer to nature, and allow them to interact with each other in a socially meaningful and physically productive way. Students will also feel part of the mainstream because their garden will be positioned for the entire school to see.
