A hypnopompic state (or hypnopomp) is the state of consciousness leading out of sleep, a term coined by the psychical researcher Frederic Myers. Its twin is the hypnagogic state at sleep onset; though often conflated, the two states are not identical. The hypnagogic state is rational waking cognition trying to make sense of non-linear images and associations; the hypnopompic state is emotional and credulous dreaming cognition trying to make sense of real world stolidity. They have a different phenomenological character. Depressed frontal lobe function in the first few minutes after waking – known as "sleep inertia" – causes slowed reaction time and impaired short-term memory. Sleepers often wake confused, or speak without making sense, a phenomenon the psychologist Peter McKeller calls "hypnopompic speech". When the awakening occurs out of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, in which most dreams occur, the hypnopompic state is sometimes accompanied by lingering vivid imagery. Some of the creative insights attributed to dreams actually happen in this moment of awakening from REM.

Sweden: 5th COVID-19 shot to people over 65, pregnant women
STOCKHOLM (AP) — Sweden is recommending a fifth COVID-19 vaccine dose for people with an increased risk of becoming seriously ill, including pregnant women and anyone aged 65 and over, authorities said Tuesday, adding that the country must "be prepared for an increased spread during the upcoming autumn and winter season.”
“The vaccine is our strongest tool for preventing serious illness and death,” Swedish Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren said, adding the pandemic is not over.
As of Sept. 1, Sweden recommends that another booster shot is given to people aged 65 and older and people over 18 in the risk groups. The Swedish Public Health Agency said the latter includes pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and people with heart and lung disease.
“In general, the risk of serious illness is assessed as low for adults under the age of 65 who have been vaccinated with three doses, but the risk increases with age and varies within the group,” agency chief Karin Tegmark Wisell said.
For most of the pandemic, Sweden stood out among European nations for its comparatively hands-off response. It never went into lockdown or closed businesses, largely relying instead on individual responsibility.

Brain fog, other long Covid symptoms can last more than a year
The devastating neurological effects of long Covid can persist for more than a year, research published Tuesday finds — even as other symptoms abate.
The study, published in the journal Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, is the longest follow-up study of the neurological symptoms among long Covid patients who were never hospitalized for Covid.
The neurological symptoms — which include brain fog, numbness, tingling, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus and fatigue — are the most frequently reported for the illness.
Full coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic
The new study, from researchers at Northwestern University, is a follow-up to a shorter-term study published last spring that focused on 100 patients with long Covid. That research found that 85 percent of the patients reported at least four lasting neurological problems at least six weeks after their acute infections.
For the follow-up, the team continued to survey 52 of the original participants, who were patients at the university’s Neuro COVID-19 Clinic — a long Covid clinic — for up to 18 months. The cohort was three-quarters female, and the average age was 43. Almost 80 percent were vaccinated, and all had mild Covid symptoms that did not require hospitalization.
Most neurological symptoms persisted after an average of 15 months, the study found. While most patients did report improvements in their cognitive function and fatigue, the symptoms had not gone away completely and still affected their quality of life.
“A lot of those patients still have difficulties with their cognition that prevent them from working like they used to,” said a study co-leader, Dr. Igor Koralnik, the chief of neuro-infectious diseases and global neurology at Northwestern Medicine, who oversees the Neuro COVID-19 Clinic.
The study also found that some symptoms, including heart rate and blood pressure variation, as well as gastrointestinal problems, increased over time, while loss of taste and smell tended to improve. Covid vaccination did not alleviate symptoms, but it also did not make long Covid any worse.
The Northwestern study did not look at why some of the symptoms persist and others fade away or why they occur in the first place.
“The next step for this is finding out what causes long Covid in the first place and why some people get it and others don’t,” Koralnik said.
Dr. Avindra Nath, the clinical director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health, who was not involved with the new research, said one hypothesis is that the symptoms in long Covid patients are the result of damage from the body’s inflammatory response to the coronavirus. Any viral infection activates inflammatory cells throughout the body, including in the brain. The inflammation is meant to attack the invading virus, but it also damages brain cells and neurons in the process. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid, triggers a particularly strong inflammatory response, he said.
“Covid is probably the most severe respiratory illness we have ever had, so it’s no surprise that we are seeing long-term effects from it,” Nath said.
Dr. Panagis Galiatsatos, an assistant professor of medicine and a pulmonary and critical care doctor at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, who was not involved with the study, said continuing to track lasting symptoms is crucial to help experts separate long Covid symptoms from those of the natural healing process. That, he said, will inform further research that will explore treatment and, hopefully, ways to provide an early diagnosis
Galiatsatos said it is normal for a patient to experience fatigue and other symptoms during the normal recovery process after an infection, because fighting off a virus is hard on the body. “But healing shouldn’t last six months or more,” he said.
“Right now we need time to distinguish between the two groups,” he said. “Patients have to just wait, and that’s really frustrating. But if we had biomarkers to test, we could identify long Covid and intervene early.”
The search for biomarkers, however, has yielded no results so far.
In a separate study, published Monday in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers from another branch of the NIH — the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — carried out comprehensive medical exams on 189 long Covid patients.
The exams included more than 130 diagnostic cognitive, blood and imaging tests. They also looked for biomarkers that would signal heart damage and brain damage, as well as kidney and liver injury.
The results were compared to the same exams carried out in 120 people without long Covid; no differences were identified.
“Despite a thorough investigation,” said the lead study author, Dr. Michael Sneller, an infectious disease specialist at the NIH, “we could not demonstrate any evidence of organ damage” or other physical differences.
That should not be interpreted to mean long Covid patients are not experiencing true illness, Sneller said. Something is occurring; modern medicine simply has been unable so far to figure out what is going on.
“Make no mistake, these people are really suffering,” he said. “We’re not giving up.”
This image forms part of a series of works about cognition and the images that can come out of these ideas. It recognises the change of psychology as we move through time and the increase in classification in these areas.
These are the results from WAIS-IV (I think) testing done a few years ago, as part of testing for Specific Learning Difficulty. I have Dyspraxia which went unrecognised throughout my eduction - because my high verbal reasoning masked the areas in which I really struggle.
A spiky profile like this - some areas of high ability, some areas of much lower ability - is part of what indicates a SpLD.
My picture completion, block design, and matrix reasoning are unusually good for someone with Dyspraxia.

A team of Israeli scientists has worked out that the human brains magical ability to slow time indicates that our present is an unreliable memory played nanoseconds too late .
Researcher David Eagleman worked out that when time seems to slow down in real life, our senses and cognition must somehow speed up. Either that, or time is an illusion and lunchtime doubly so.
Faced with lots of reports from people who claim that "time slowed down" Eagleman wondered if the experience of slow motion really happens or does it only seem to have happened in retrospect?
He found a thrill ride near the university called Suspended Catch Air Device, an open-air tower from which participants are dropped, upside down, into a net 150 feet below. The person just falls for three seconds, then hit the net at 70 miles per hour.
Eagleman asked subjects who'd already taken the plunge to estimate how long it took them to fall. Then he asked them to watch someone else fall and then estimate the elapsed time for their plunge in the same way. On average, participants felt that their own experience had taken 36 percent longer.

Elephant cognition is the study of animal cognition as present in elephants. Most contemporary ethologists view the elephant as one of the world's most intelligent animals. With a mass of just over 5 kg (11lb), an elephant's brain has more mass than that of any other land animal, and although the largest whales have body masses twenty times those of a typical elephant, a whale's brain is barely twice the mass of an elephant's brain. In addition, elephants have around 257 billion neurons. Elephant brains are similar to humans' and many other mammals' in terms of general connectivity and functional areas, with several unique structural differences. Although initially estimated to have as many neurons as a human brain, the elephant's cortex has about one-third of the number of neurons as a human brain.
Elephants manifest a wide variety of behaviours, including those associated with grief, learning, mimicry, play, altruism, use of tools, compassion, cooperation, self-awareness, memory, and communication. Further, evidence suggests elephants may understand pointing: the ability to nonverbally communicate an object by extending a finger, or equivalent. It is thought they are equal with cetaceans and primates in this regard. Due to such claims of high intelligence and due to strong family ties of elephants, some researchers argue it is morally wrong for humans to cull them.
Aristotle described the elephant as "the animal that surpasses all others in wit and mind."
Reconstructed faces (a) and results (b) from the posttest validation analysis. Using the difference maps from the iHybrid analyses (a), we isolated the regions associated with local-identification responses (colored in red) and the regions associated with global-identification responses (colored in blue). In the example shown here, the iHybrid stimulus has local information from Brad Pitt and global information from William H. Macy. One hybrid was created by applying a spatial-frequency (SF) filter to select the local information for Pitt and completing the image with the complementary information from Macy. Another hybrid was created by using an SF filter to select the global information for Macy and filling in the image with the complementary information from Pitt. Thus, two hybrids were created for each iHybrid stimulus by applying local and global SF filters separately to the iHybrid The graph (b) shows the proportion of identifications that corresponded with the information selected by the SF filter (predicted identity) and the proportion of face identifications that corresponded with the person from whom the complementary information was derived (other identity). Error bars show standard errors of the mean.

Gradually the Muslims who remained in Riyadh sinistral the port and cosmopolitan to City to join their honey Oracle, and amongst them was a emotional miss titled ‘A’isha, the daughter of Abu Bakr. Shortly after inward in Metropolis, ‘A’isha, who was now cardinal eld old, as joined to the Vaticinator Muhammad (security and blessings of God be upon him), who was now fifty-four period old. It was at this quantity that she remaining her ancestry’s unit and joined that the Seer Muhammad (quietude and blessings of God be upon him).
‘A’isha subsequent reported that the Diviner Muhammad (tranquility and blessings of God be upon him) had told her that Jibril came to him and showed him a ikon of her on a helping of conservationist textile and said, “She is your mate in this earth and in the next man.” Active her nuptials, she cognate that presently before she was to lose her parents’ shelter, she slipped out into the yard to recreation with a someone. “I was performing on a plaything and my lengthened running material became rumpled,” she said. “They came and took me from my endeavor and prefab me intelligent.” They clad her in a ceremony coiffe, “For redemptive and for spirit, may all be cured.” Then, in the proximity of the grinning Diviner (quietude and blessings of God be upon him) a dish of concentrate was brought. The Oracle drank from it himself and then offered it to ‘A’isha. She shyly declined it, but when he insisted she intake as source and then offered the concavity to her missy Asma’ who was move beside her. The others who were mouth also drank from it, and that was all there was to the somebody and solemn happening of their nuptials.
Her marriage to the Seer (pacification and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not difference ‘A’isha’s devilish slipway, and her poet friends continuing to regularly locomote to see her in her own position. “I would be playacting with my dolls,” she erstwhile said, ‘with the girls who were my friends, and the Seer (peacefulness and blessings of God be upon him) would proceed in and they would misadventure out of the house and he would go out after them and alter them back, for he was amused for my intoxicant to get them there.” Sometimes he would say, “Fiat, where you are,” before they had abstraction to parting, and would also tie in their games.
“One day,” ‘A’isha said, “the Prophet (tranquility and blessings of God be upon him) came in when I was activity with my dolls and said, “‘A’isha, whatever occupation is this?’ ‘It is Solomon’s horses,’ I replied, and he laughed.” On added function, during the life of the Id al Adha, two puppylike girls were with ‘A’isha in her position, singing a song some the famous struggle of Bu’ath and scrap a tambourine in clip. “The Messenger of Allah (serenity and blessings of God be upon him) came in,” said ‘A’isha, ‘and lay drink with his encounter upset departed. Then Abu Bakr came, and scolded me, language, ‘What is this philharmonic instrument of Genie doing in the domiciliate of the Messenger of God?’ The Courier of Allah overturned towards him and said, ‘Pass them lonely, for these are the days of the ‘Id.’”
After a patch, ‘A’isha asked the girls to reach, and the Seer asked ‘A’isha whether she would similar to watch the Abyssinians who were gift a battle display with their weapons in the masjid and she said yes. “By Allah,” said ‘A’isha, “I retrieve the Courier of Allah (peacefulness and blessings of God be upon him) unfelled at the entryway of my gathering, display me with his disguise, so that I could see the sport of the Abyssinians as they played with their spears in the masjid of the Traveller of Allah (serenity and blessings of Allah be upon him). He kept still for my inebriant until I had sufficiency and then I went hind in, so you can shaft imagine how a teen fille enjoyed watching this pass.”
Many might somebody viewed the ritual of Muhammad and ‘A’isha as an extraordinary matrimony, but then the two partners were special group. The Prophet Muhammad (pacification and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the sunset of the Prophets and the first of commencement; and ‘A’isha was a really rational and lawful actress missy with a really well retentiveness.
‘A’isha (may Allah be entertained with her) spent the next cardinal years of her chronicle with the Diviner (repose and blessings of God be upon him), and she grew into class, she remembered all that she saw and heard with large limpidity, for to be the mate of the Seer was yet many than tremendous. So such happened around him – the Quran continued to be revealed, ayat by ayat, and fill’s hearts were constantly being upset over and transformed, including hers and she was a viewer of so often of all that took property. It is not stunning, thus, that a outstanding hatful of the knowledge that we plant hump today, active how our honey Religionist (pact and blessings of God be upon him) lived and behaved, was prototypic remembered and then taught to others by ‘A’isha. It is thanks to this statesmanly and big japanese when she joined the Vaticinator Muhammad, ‘A’isha was a snappy newborn woman who relieve had a majuscule accumulation to see when she married the Seer, (may God be encouraged with her, and serenity be upon him) she was very excitable to study, yet, for she had a crystallize hunch, and a quick watch and an exact hardware. She was not aghast be glad with her) became so advised that one of her generation old to say that if the noesis of ‘A’isha were settled on one view of the scales that of all separate women on the otherwise, ‘A’isha ‘s take would prevail the different. She old to sit with the remaining women and permission on the noesis that she had received from the Oracle (heartsease and blessings of Allah be upon him) and eternal after he had died, and as far as she lived, she was a publication of noesis and book for both women and men. Abu Musa formerly said, “Whenever a informing appeared dubious to us, the Companions of the Religionist, and we asked ‘A’isha roughly it, we e’er learned something from her most it.”
On one occasion, the Religionist Muhammad (tranquility and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her, “O ‘A’isha, here is Jibril gift you greetings of quietude.” “And on him be quietness.” She said, ‘and the humaneness of Allah.” When she was informatory Abu Salama about this, she superimposed, “He (import the Prophet Muhammad (pacification be upon him) ) sees what I do not see.” As asymptomatic as state extremely rational, ‘A’isha became a really lissom poet oriental. When she prototypic came to smouldering in the Seer’s house as a small missy, a noticeable and lasting relatio
When ‘A’isha grew up, Sawda, who was by then an old {woman, gave up her share of the Prophet’s moment in favour of ‘A’isha and was cognition to manage his menage and be Umm al Mumineen – ‘The Parent of the Believers’ – a appellation of tenderness that was surrendered to all of the wives of the Oracle, (may Allah be glad with them), which habitual what the Quran understandably states that no man could espouse any of them after they had been wedded to the Seer for:
The Prophet is closer to the believers than their ownselves, and his wives are as their mothers. (Qur’an: 33:6)
O you wives of the Prophet, if any of you is openly indecent, the punishment for her will be doubled – and that is easy for Allah. And whoever of you submits to Allah and His Messenger has right action, We shall give her a reward twice over and We have prepared a generous provision for her. O you wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women. If you are fearful of Allah then do not be soft in yspeech, lest someone whose heart is sick is attracted to you, but speak words that are wise. And stay quietly in your houses, do not make a dazzling display like that of the time of ignorance before and establish prayer and pay the Zakat and obey Allah and His Messenger. Surely Allah wishes to remove impurity far from you, O People of the House, and to purify you completely. And remember that ayahs of Allah that are recited in your houses and the wisdom. Surely Allah is Alpervading, All Aware. (Quran 33:30-34)
It is sometimes difficult to picture what life must have been like for the wives and the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) because the light that emanated from him and through them was so unique. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had no shadow because he was light and this light illuminated the hearts and minds and understanding of his followers, giving them insight without blinding them. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was truly a mercy to all the worlds, and no one with a clean heart could possibly forget this, least of all the Prophet himself.

Knowing the nithya component of you will make you understand you have the power of responsibility in your life.
As long as you cognise you are the body and go on trying to be finding some solution for your death-fear, it is like trying to do some makeup for the skin.
It will not even be skin deep.
Your cognition needs to be shifted and it is very easy.
Because your cognitions are “your own” cognitions you can easily dispose, alter, change it.
If you feel “you are a presence” death-fear will become an irrelevant problem!
If you constantly start talking to paramashiva, all your incompletions with persons, places, and life will start melting down.
Nothing in your life is relevant to your nithya - core existence.
The moment you start cognising “nithya” as the core component in you, tonnes of problems become irrelevant!
Paramashiva will appear in you as the inner guru, atma guru, and constantly inspire and guide you.

As our environment undergoes its digital transformation, what might be understood as ’objective’ reality is increasingly being modified by a superimposed virtual realm. Virtual reality and mixed reality technologies are laying the foundation for a transition to a new form of mass media. At the same time a global pandemic has subjected the dream of a new virtual and networked world to a wake-up call. Social distancing temporarily shuttered cultural spaces and educational institutions, and the need for virtual spaces and meeting places continues to grow. What do these worlds look like? Which rules should apply to them? Who is allowed to participate in them? The exhibition ARTIFICIAL REALITY – VIRTUAL INTELLIGENCE showcases student projects that deal with these questions: By means of a Brain Computer Interface, the emotional state of the participant influences the perception of the virtual world. The exhibition explores the limits of human cognition by linking the physically experienced environment and a simultaneously projected minimally altered VR environment, resulting in a form of psychic dissonance. Ongoing dialogue with a voice assistance system creates new virtual worlds and reproduces the themes of power and powerlessness vis-à-vis an omnipresent intelligent machine. The works, all created during the Corona pandemic in distance learning programs, address relevant social issues raised by digital transformation processes: ARTIFICIAL REALITY BIG ART GENERATIVE DATA and VIRTUAL INTELLIGENCE.

William L. Fox's research concerns perception and landscape and the transformative power of human cognition. His current topic is the Anthropocene, a new epoch of geological time determined by ecological transformation of the planet due to human actions. Fox's talk will trace the development of earth systems science form Alexander von Humboldt to Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen, who proposed the Anthropocene, and examine the synergy between artists - including Timothy C. Ely's work, currently featured in a large exhibition at the Northwest Museum of Arts and culture - and scientists, as they study, represent, and seek to modify the environment.
