It was this traditional fishing village, situated five kilometres from Funchal, which inspired the late Sir Winston Churchill to paint its lovely surroundings. The village was given its name by the explorers João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira because of the shape of its bay and the many sea lions (‘lobos’) living there at the time.
I couldn't resist the red light falling across the espresso pot or the smell of the bubbling coffee.
I used a piece of black velvet cloth from my sewing basket and set in on a chair in the bedroom. Collected some items and draped them. The necklace fell and I decided to leave it as such.
I grabbed some flowers and tossed them into the mix.
This was the result.

Brownsea Island is the largest island within Poole harbour. It is the home of the Scout movement which had it's origins in an experimental camp on the island in 1907 held by Lord Robert Baden-Powell (a lieutenant general in the British Army) to test ideas for his book "Scouting for Boys". The following year the Scout movement was formed.
