The nineteenth-century mansion and estate near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire,
has received latter-day fame as the central site for British codebreakers during World War II, although at the time personnel and location of the facility was a closely guarded secret, the estate housed the worlds first code breaking computer. Early personnel on the GC&CS team included Alan Turing, Gordon Welchman, Hugh Alexander and Stuart Milner-Barry.

Vodafone has announced plans to provide coding training to 1,000 teenage girls across 26 countries in what is the world’s furthest-reaching in-person global coding programme of its kind. The commitment was announced in advance of @WomenScienceDay. Vodafone is partnering with @CodeFirstGirls to address widening gender gap in STEM.
For many years, women and girls have played an important role in science and technology. Without the work of technology pioneers like Hedy Lamarr and Barbara Liskov, we would not have Wi-Fi and email as we know it. But despite this, women and girls are still grossly under-represented in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education and careers. Only 35% of girls enter further education in STEM subjects, and many have little encouragement to equip themselves with the skills to thrive in these industries.
Vodafone wants to help change this. In a partnership with social enterprise Code First: Girls, Vodafone’s #CodeLikeAGirl programme will provide five-day, coding workshops for girls, ages 14-18, across its geographical footprint in Europe, India, the Middle East, South Africa and Australasia. In 2017, 500 girls across Vodafone’s 26 markets were taught to code as part of the Vodafone and Code First: Girls partnership. This year, 1,000 teenage girls will benefit from the programme.

Habitat: Light wood and bushes on the edge of a small alpine pasture, moderately inclined mountain slope, southeast aspect; shallow, skeletal, colluvial, calcareous ground; mostly sunny, exposed to direct rain, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 615 m (2.020 feet), alpine phytogeographical region.
Substratum: Dead, still standing, almost horizontally positioned branch of Corylus avellana.
Place: Lower Trenta valley, between villages Soča and Trenta, right bank of river Soča, near abandoned farmhouse Strgulc, Soča 47, East Julian Alps, Posočje, Slovenia EC
Comments: Taxonomy of genus Diatrypella is not yet settled on species level, even not on genus level. Consequently the descriptions in literature of the habit and host(s) of the species under the name Diatrypella favacea vary widely. There are mainly two approaches; 'lumpers' consider Diatrypella favacea in broader sense and consider different spore sizes of finds on different hosts as insignificant, while 'splitters' find these differences significant (among other traits) and recognize several host specific species. According to them this find would clearly be Diatrypella verruciformis (Ehrh.) Nke., which grows on Corylus sp. only. They consider Diatrypella favacea a species bound exclusively on Betula sp.. I follow Index Fungorum where these taxa (and others) are considered synonyms.
Stromata 2-5.5 mm in diameter, ostioles of mature stromata small, barely visible, when old and weathered much larger; stromata mostly on the upper side of the branch; branch decayed, about 5 cm in diameter; attempt to extract pigments using 5% KOH was negative.
Spores smooth, curved. Dimensions: 6,2 [7,2 ; 7,6] 8,6 x 1,4 [1,7 ; 1,8] 2,1 microns; Q = 3,2 [4 ; 4,3] 5,1 ; N = 40 ; C = 95%; Me = 7,4 x 1,8 microns; Qe = 4,2. Asci many spored. Olympus, NEA 100x/1.25, magnification 1.000 x, oil; fresh material, in water. AmScope MA500 digital camera.

The toy that comes with its own app. And for that instant gratification, a QR code to retrieve it. The stats of kids with mobile devices is pretty intense. But I'm not sure if this age group would qualify.
QR codes are a great way to put information right into the hands of the consumer. There are many great uses for QR codes. Ask a C2 rep how to integrate them into your campaign.

More than 60 teachers from the Lower Mainland gathered today at the Microsoft Centre of Excellence in downtown Vancouver to learn basic coding techniques from some of the best instructors in the industry – all to make sure BC students have the skills they need to succeed in today’s changing world.
Education Minister Mike Bernier joined teachers in an interactive ping pong ice breaker game. Teams had to create a simple algorithm to guide a blindfolded teammate to retrieve a ping pong ball. The game helps develop communication and critical thinking – vital skills needed for future success.

At Coding for Kids Camp, young coders used sequences, loops, and conditionals to navigate mazes, solve puzzles and create stories.
In England, our local area of Bournemouth & Poole has run out of phone numbers, to save the earth collapsing, we now have to dial our area code if we have to dial a local number.
If we don't, we get a reminder if we fail to dial 01202 before the local number we want, this might change after a month to a not so polite message, after six months your phone will explode, or for those on the Virgin Network, Richard will pop round to tell you off.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.
