A ginger bread house for Melinda.

I had to throw in some pink as well I hope you don't mind, it just seemed so perfectly sugar sweet to me!

I am a bit stuck on how to finish this. I really struggle to make large paper pieced blocks, I just can't seem to do it!

This block is 8" so it needs a border or something to get to 12 1/2" But after auditioning several fabrics I can't seem to find the right one. it does not help that I have no Christmas fabrics! Are you planning on adding sashing to the finished quilt top? Should I piece a border? Perhaps I should go for a Kona snow border and follow Amy's lead and add some stamped text...

Suggestions are welcome!

I used Kerry's pattern and mixed it up a little and added a suitcase. I have no experience hitting slopes myself but I do know a lot about packing, and there's always a missing mitten! So that is the scene I wanted to create for you. The block measures approx 9 1/2" x 14" Only after finishing I realized it was Melinda not you that asked for aqua - sorry I got mixed up, I still hope you like it!

A little bit out of season and a lotta bit late, but my #cocoricobee block for @duringquiettime is finally done. She asked for blocks from the song "My Favorite Things." Its my version of a "warm woolen mitten."

dont they look dreamy together... i want a real life useable model of each one. how badass would that scale bee... and the kitchen aid...

i'm loving these. thanks girls!

I hope you do not mind that there is no Pippi in this block! I could not come up with a way of piecing her that would be remotely within my reach! I am worried that because she is not in the actual block this is not Pippi enough for this months theme.

In the story Pippi visits the sweet's shop with her friends and treats them all to lots of candy. She also enjoys eating cake for breakfast.

My brother and his girlfriend moved to Sweden last month, they tell me cake is a staple in the Swedish diet so I had to include lots of it!

I hope you like it!

Cocorico Bee block January

I wanted to stamp the lyrics the way the song gets stuck in my head. It is not perfect, the ink got a bit smudged in places, hope you don't mind too much!

1. What large item would you like to receive? I would love a supertote, or a sew together purse or a sewing related mini for my sewing wall or a large scrappy fabric basket to hold my crochet...These are just some ideas and Im sure I will love whatever my partner decides to make!

2. Is there any item you would not like to receive? Im receiving the most awesome sewing machine cover for my featherweight so Im pretty right in that department...

3. What are your likes/dislikes? I absolutely love anything vintage inspired and scrappy, low volume and texty background prints, denyse schmidt, paper piecing, feathers and arrows... I adore simple piecing and hand quilting!

4. Tell us something fun or interesting about yourself! We have an old HT Holden and van which we will hook up and take on a road trip in September...

finally done, my dear. sorry to set a bad precedent for the first month of the bee. i bit off nearly more than i could chew by using so many different techniques in one block. i hope you like it!

this is SUPER ambitious for me... but the mind grapes started rolling and whom am i to stifle their will. i am thinking that i will paper piece the cider press and the bottles/jug and then needle turn applique the fruits. i will also be placing them on a table top so something to think of as well. i am so excited i can hardly stand it. if this works... i will be the happiest nerdy sewing lady EVER!!

**warning**

i may be requesting pointers, tips and encouragement!!

this block design has been swimming in my brain. i had to start it.

those HST's are only 5/8" finished.

i'm improv piecing these rather than paper piecing. i didn't want the perfect lines that come with paper piecing. instead i wanted a rustic look of a good old building.

For some reason this photo looks really washed out. The other pic of the cheese slice has better colour. The colours are a little brighter. I'll try a better pic after work!

Lauree, do you see the start of your mixer paddle here? i hadn't meant to do thread sketching with this part of the block. i used this tutorial to piece the white fabric in the gray so you wouldn't have to see any stitched lines. but, this technique works great for curves, but not for tight (and tiny!) curves that are closer to corners. so, a little thread sketching to secure it made me feel a lot better about it all.

i'm working on it! this half of the block is done. i'm still working on the jars...
