Although it is called a "lily", the peace lily is not a true lily from the family Liliaceae.

According to a well-known NASA experiment, a peace lily plant may absorb contaminants including benzene, carbon monoxide, and even formaldehyde. In exchange, it adds moisture to the air, making it appropriate for breathing by removing up to 60% of contaminants.

This is an impossible view in today's HK, as Pak Sui Yuen doesn't exist anymore. I lived on the second floor.

Behind the lilies you can see, on the left, the Chinachem Golden Plaza (with cinema) and, on the right, the New Mandarin Plaza. Conversely, I think the same nightclub/sauna is still there...

An Old Peace Lily on a Mauna Loa Plant – Among the numerous commercially available peace lily cultivars is “Wallisii," a compact variety with 3-inch flowers. Reaching no higher than 12 inches, it does well in a small desk planter. The cultivar “Mauna Loa” reaches between 2 and 3 feet high and bears glossy leaves. Its flower stalks are especially impressive, reaching up to 20 inches long, with 4-inch-wide flowers. One of the largest peace lilies is “Sensation,” whose dark green leaves have a ribbed texture. It looks like a flower but in fact it is a inflorescence with small flowers surrounded by one big bract called spathe. The whole thing is known as spadix. Spathiphyllum sp., known as Spathe or Peace Lily. It might be Spathiphyllum cochlearispathum but I am not sure about the ID. Bowen park, Herston, Brisbane. Fuji X10, heavy crop. May 29, 2012.
