Horseshoe Bend is a meander of the Colorado River just below Glen Canyon Dam where the river has carved the Navajo sandstone of the canyon walls into the shape of a horse shoe. Since taking these photos I have learned that its 1000 foot sheer drop from the canyon edge to the river below has earned it the nickname of "the suicide capital of Arizona." However, most of the deaths in recent years appear to be accidental deaths of people who have gotten a little too close to the edge with their cameras .....
