Susurrant: A soft, whispering or rustling sound. That is what the wind sounded like swirling through the grass.
The first day of May dawned with clear blue skies. I headed out to Mount Tam for a five mile hike on the Bolinas Ridge Trail. This hike presented a first. A bobcat sighting! I only snagged one photo but seeing this creature in the wild was more exciting than the photo itself. The reptiles were out and sunning themselves and the wildflowers were still in abundance. I wanted to enjoy the green hills before they start turning into that iconic California gold!
Happy Monday Folks!

Seaside escapes into the woodland…a woodland coastal trail through West Coast wilderness at East Sooke Regional Park with windswept rocky coast, over dry hilltops, through dark rainforest to sheltered coves. The Coast Trail in East Sooke Park is one of the most scenic hiking trails near the Victoria area as it follows the rocky shoreline along Juan de Fuca Strait.

Manarola is one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre, located in the Liguria region, Italy, integrating the municipality of Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia. Known for its colorful houses arranged on terraces on a rocky spur by the Mediterranean Sea, Manarola is considered the oldest of the Cinque Terre, with origins dating back to the 12th century and linked to fishing and viticulture, activities still present in the local economy. It stands out for the Sciacchetrà wine and for the Church of São Lourenço, dating from the 14th century. Access to the village is mainly by train, through a tunnel dug into the rock, but it is also possible to get there by foot or boat trails. The image of the village illustrates the arrangement of the houses on the steep slope and the direct access to the small port, traditionally used by fishermen. Manarola is part of a coastal rail system, including the famous “Sentiero dell'Amore”, currently closed for security reasons. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and part of the Cinque Terre National Park, Manarola is one of the main tourist destinations on the Italian Riviera.
Howick Haven. The bridge spans a lovely stream that runs down from Howick Hall and gardens about 2 miles away.
Del Norte Coast Redwoods, California
A foggy morning among the coastal redwoods lining the Last Chance section of the California Coastal Trail. This section of the trail was the first paved road in the area and although overgrown it is still in superb shape. Yes, you have to climb over the odd fallen redwood, but what is life without some challenges?
This is Gargantua Harbour. This is a designated camping area. There are several spots to pitch tents but it is pretty open and communal in nature. It would be good for a large group though or as a last resort if you can’t manage to grab one of the three private sites closer to the car park.
The head of the Gargantua to Warp Bay (or Chalfant Cove) coastal trail is located just behind the camping area.
There is also supposed to be a trail to a lookout but we didn’t have the time explore it.
~ Gargantua Parking Lot to Gargantua Harbour → It simply follows an old road bed (a lot of it downhill) so I’d rate this portion fairly easy. Rocks can be slick and loose/uneven. It is sheltered from the wind which makes it a hot hike through the woods and quite buggy.
Thank you for all of your kind comments, visits, faves and invites. I do appreciate you taking the time to stop by for a wee visit. ♥ =^D

Anyone who has travelled the Wester Ross coastal trail will know that the road from Fearnmore to Applecross is a wilderness road. Few trees and only a few lonely crofts but the views across to Skye are stunning. Even more so when the weather puts on a show. It even added added a distant rainbow for extra interest.
