Alberta Provincial Highway No. 734, commonly referred to as Highway 734, [leading to Luscar-Cadomin Coal Mining area] is a highway in western Alberta, Canada that travels through the forested foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The coal crane at the former power station of the WWII Peenemünde Army Research Center (Heeresversuchsanstalt Peenemünde).
Construction of the power plant started in December 1939, it went operational in November 1943.
The power station remained in use after occupation by the Red Army in 1945. It was extended in the early 1950s and continued to supply power until 1990.
Nowadays it is a part of the Peenemmünde Museum facilities.

A DPU set snakes its way toward the Peabody mine on the end of an empty BNSF coal train in the afternoon sun. Prewitt, NM
-The Number 9 Coal Mine was opened in 1855 by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. It was the World’s Longest-Operating Coal Mine. The mine featured miles of tunnels and went as far as 800 feet below the surface. It produced a significant amount of anthracite coal from the Panther Valley’s Mammoth Vein in Carbon County, PA.
In 1972, the mine was officially closed. 1992, 20 years after closing for business, the Number 9 Coal Mine was opened for tours to those wanting to learn more about this industry that built Northeastern Pennsylvania. - (Source: Uncovering PA)
