Der damalige IHC-Chef Archy McCardell wollte auf Biegen und Brechen die Gewerkschaften in die Knie zwingen. Resultat war, dass 6 Monate die gesamte IH-Produktion in den USA still lag und keine Maschine gebaut wurde. Ergebnis nach diesen 6 Monaten war ebenfalls ein Schuldenberg von mehreren hunderten Millionen Schulden.

Während die deutsche IHC immer noch Marktführer in Deutschland mit Rekordumsätzen war,

schlingerte die IH USA immer mehr an den Rand der Pleite.

1984 verkaufte IHC die Landmaschinensparte USA an Tenneco, 1985 folgten die europäischen Werke.

CASE-IH war geboren.

Zum Zeitpunkt des CASE - IH-Zusammenschlusses waren im Case-Konzern drei Schlepperhersteller :

- IH in rot weiß

- David brown in weiß-rot

- CASE in weiß-orange

Um im Rahmen der "Corporate Identity" eine einheitliche Farblinie zu haben, wurde eben "rot-schwarz" festgelegt.

Damit übernahm man die Farblinie, die IHC bereits seit 1983 in den USA hatte.

Landini bzw. die ARGO-Gruppe hat den Namen und ein Werk in Doncaster dann gekauft, baut unter dem Namen Traktoren und vermarktet diese durch den guten Ruf von McCormick.
