The County of Essex – Scenes of Essex
I am an Essex lad. It is a county that possesses a City, a number of Large and Small Towns, New Towns, Villages, Hamlets and Ports. It has anything from Modern Architecture to Roman History and pre Roman ruins. There are Museums, Galleries, an RHS Garden and is open to the National Open Gardens Scheme. It even boasts a Secret Nuclear Bunker, although everyone knows where it is.
It is a place of many Parks and open spaces open to the public, all those areas that are now closed off due to Covid. We can still enjoy the many footpaths that run everywhere from Coast to Countryside. There are a large number of wonderful churches, of timbered houses, windmills, pub signs, post boxes, blue plaques and sculpture just put there for the photographer and lastly, much, much more.
Here is a collection of items that I don’t think have been posted before.

Here just a few months on from when it was branded Bulldog and still under the ownership of Anglia Garage Services, it has changed brand to Little David. It looks very smart here with the newly applied livery, and there is a sign on the wall for Fina lubricants too. It looks like for the time being the Tokheim pumps still stand although they are mostly obscured by the Sierra saloon filling up, the ugly version of the car in my opinion, the hatchback version looked so much better, to my eyes anyway. Looks like a Cavalier in the background.
The garage would in tie go on to be known as Vigar motors, still selling Little David petrol, which was almost certainly its final brand before fuel sales ended as the frame and sign of the Little David pole sign still stands in the present day, as seen in the linked Streetview, and below in a photo I took a couple of years ago.

This car took part in the Raymond Mays Trophy Race for Pre 1961 Grand Prix Cars at the Silverstone Historic Festival meeting in August 2001. It's indistinguishable from a 1950s Maserati 250F, but it's one of 12 replicas built by Cameron Millar and this one has the chassis number CM7. Cameron Millar acquired a genuine Maserati 250F in 1964 (originally 2501, later renumbered 2523) which he kept and raced for 8 years. In this time he purchased all the remaining cars and spare parts belonging to the Scuderia Centro Sud who had competed with the 250F in the 1950s, and also the chassis jigs from the Maserati factory. He then set about creating this series of replicas, using as far as possible genuine period parts, which are so well crafted that the FIA has allowed them to race alongside the genuine Maserati 250F and its contemporaries in competitive historic racing events. At the time of this Silverstone event CM7 was owned by Gerry Hann and was driven in this race by Allan Miles.

Changan is the best-selling local carmaker in China, being strong in both passenger cars and commercial vans/cheap MPVs. Changan has a wide SUV-range, consisting of the CS15, CS35, CS55, CS75 and CS95, as well as the value-oriented CX70.
Together with SAIC, FAW, BAIC and Dongfeng, Changan is considered one of the 'big five' of China, referring to the largest car producers in production volume (including production for foreign joint venture partners like VW, Peugeot-Citroën, Honda, Toyota, Nissan or in case of Changan: Ford, Peugeot-Citroën (DS Automobile only), Mazda and Suzuki.
Changan was allegedly founded in 1862 as a gun store and assembled a jeep from the late 1950s. Changan has one of the largest model ranges of indigenous models as well. Changan currently has a passenger car and commercial car label, both named Changan, but distinguished by a different logo.
The Changan CM8 was launched in 2007 and is a van/MPV mixture with striking design. The CM7 (Raimondi) launched in 2004 and the CM8 were Changan's most luxurious vans, positioned above the Star range. Sales were poor.

This is the earliest image I have of this garage in Albert Road, Braintree. Here branded Bulldog and under the trading name of Anglia Garage Services it would very soon go on to be branded Little David and some time after become Vigar Motors instead of Anglia Garage Services, either due to new ownership or a change of trading name. By the time the name change had occurred, the pumps had been replaced but here they are some older I think Tokheim pumps - later they would be Dunclares.
The garage still exists in the present day, although fuel sales ended quite some time ago, and certainly before Streetview first visited, but it is almost certain that Little David was the last brand of petrol sold here as the frame and sign of the Little David pole sign still stands to the present day.
I guess the BMW would have been considered quite a grand car in this era, and its plate maybe a personalised one?
Here's the same view in the near present day; a photo I took a couple of years ago is added below as well.
