I like taking macros of flowers, but I'm really poor at knowing their names.

Shot the morning of April 3 from Saint Charles, IL with 12 inch f/5. One-half hour of exposure with Starshooter Pro V1 single shot color camera. Original FIT was split into five JPEGs of various exposure-equivalents and then combined using High Dynamic Range facility of Paint Shop Pro. Losmandy G-11 mount. Cropped to about 50% of the frame.

Beehive Cluster or M44 is an open cluster with thousands of stars appear to be placed next to each other forming a stunning view in the sky. The cluster is shining bright at an magnitude of 4.0 which is bright enough to be visible to unaided eye as a faint round patch of luminosity on a clear night. In Binoculars, it resembles a swarn of bees, giving rise to its popular name.

Calcite comes in an astonishing variety of forms (and colors!) - white being (I'm thinking) less common - and this particular formation being outstanding (to me). It looks like melted candle wax with rounded tops, as well as striations (they call it sun-ray, or something) all down the sides (cause the points have roots, like teeth). And it's free standing, with the base smaller than the top (like scepter quartz). VERY cool specimen.

Taken at the Carr Astronomical Observatory on May 26th, 2012. It was cloudy that night, so I was hunting around for targets that weren't obscured by cloud and grabbed this shot. As a result, I'm not sure exactly what Messier object this is. I should keep better notes next time.

Equipment used: Explore Scientific 127 Triplet CF (f/7.5) mounted on a Celestron CGEM. Camera is a Canon 50D

Today i was shooting (Street) dance competition. With unusual light conditions (No windows) without flash and just with my 50mm f1.8 i was forced to improvize. However, it was really amazing experience with a lot of "First time" moments. I used almost exlusively full manual (for the first time) and deducted right exposure (expozimeter was confused by dark surroundings of dancing floor). Of course, I missed a lot of photos but overall, it was really great day.

This was taken under a dark sky and is one single shot of 30 seconds with ISO 800.

100 light years away from us, 145 light years across - this is simply a massive object in the night sky. Believed to contain several hundred thousand stars.

Binoculars should resolve some detail of this great cluster.

I worked with the admin of this cluster for a couple of hours to migrate it into this rack and redo the cable management.

It's not bad. I wish we had shorter power cables so we didn't have to hide so much mess, and I'd prefer more unified ethernet cables so that they could be swept to the side more gracefully, but this is definitely not terrible.

The Double Cluster (also known as Caldwell 14) is the common name for the open clusters NGC 869 and NGC 884 which are close together in the constellation Perseus.

Both visible with the naked eye, NGC 869 and NGC 884 lie at a distance of 7500 light years

a really terrible picture of the beginnings of the cluster in the entry way to our bedroom. ugh, hate that the black frame in the upper right is crooked, it's fixed now don't worry. and the empty space below that is a plate, just hadn't gotten the plate hook thing yet. it's a work in progress.

NGC 4755 , Jewel Box

2008-05-10

The great variety of star colors in this open cluster underlies its name: The Jewel Box.

One of the bright central stars is a red supergiant, in contrast to the many blue stars that surround it. The cluster contains just over 100 stars, and is about 10 million years old.

This Jewel Box lies about 7500 light-years away and spans about 20 light-years.

It can be seen with binoculars towards the “Southern Cross”

Until the beginning of the 1980s, there was no significant tradition in the aerospace industry in the Basque Country. The initiative of a handful of people from local firms and the support of the Government gave rise to the cluster. After an impressive growth over the last 20 years, the Basque aerospace cluster Members forms today an important part of the global value chains supplying the world's leading aircraft manufacturers.
