CLR_27 [50 points]

One of the most remote space invaders I have seen so far. This one belongs to the second wave of the invasion of Clermont-Ferrand of January 2016 but is actually located about 20 kilometers from the city itself. "Hidden in the forrest".

Other view:

Date of invasion: January 2016 (24 till 31 January, First seen on Flickr on 29/01/2016 by Tofz4u)

NOTE Thanks to Denis and Virginie who were so kind to give some directions to this one and lots of other space invader in Clermont-Ferrand. :-)

THE INVASION OF CLERMONT-FERRAND

The first (two?) invasion wave(s) of the center of Clermont-Ferrand occured in the year 2000 and consisted 8 space invaders, 4 of them are still there (including 1 re-activation) and flashable.

In January 2016 Clermont-Ferrand was invaded again, the 3rd invasion wave took place:

"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

Autoroute [A1] | Goyencourt 10/04/2016 06h52

"On the road (again)..." is what Invader said on Instagram (Instagram - Invaderwashere...'on the road') when he was going to Clermont-Ferrand for a second "invasion wave" in this city in January 2016. For me, a plan for a roadtrip to this city in the Auvergne was born. Left Amsterdam early to be around 14h00 in the area of Clermont-Ferrand, a drive of more than 940 kilometers.

This photo is taken on the A1 (Autoroute du Nord) near Goyencourt, already more than 3 hours on my way to Clermont-Ferrand.

Roadtrip Amsterdam-Clermont-Ferrand

Left Amsterdam at 03h08 in the rain with a temperature of 8° C. Crossed the Belgium border after 113 kilometers at 04h12. And the Belge-French border at 05h43 after 263 kilometers. The lowest temperature was at the A1 where the temparature was only 1° C and the highest temperature was at the arrival in Clermont-Ferrand, 24° C.

On the way I flashed space invader PA_1141 near Centre Commercial Belle-Epine in Thiais (94) at 08h15 and continued on the A10 to Orléans. A coffeel stop at Aire de Limours-Janvry from 08h43 to 09h21, a fuel stop at Total at Aire d'Orléans Saran (gas price 1.39 /liter) at 10h10 after 620 kilometers.

Early lunch, late breakfast stop at McDo Saran from 10h29 to 10h55.

From Orléans to the Clermont-Ferrand area over the A71. First visiting space invader CLR_27 hidden in the forest North of Clermont-Ferrand near Châtelguyon and before going the hotel flashing 3 space invaders North of the center of Clermont-Ferrand (CLR_35, CLR_14 and CLR_16) including a frappé stop at McDonald's Clermont-Ferrand Stade.

Arrived at hôtel Kyriad Clermont-Ferrand Centre in the Rue Bonnaubaud at 15h49 after driving 952,0 kilometers this day. Temperature 23° C and altitude +377 meters.

Autoroute [A10] | Marcoussis 10/04/2016 08h39

Just before the junction/exit of the N104 (Evry and Orléans by route nationale) I encountered beautiful nappes de brouillard (fog patches) in the valley near the commune of Marcoussis. Together with blue skies.

Almost arriving at destination! I was on my way to capture and flash space invader CLR_27 which is located about 20 kilometers from the city of Clermont-Ferrand. In the forest. I was on a mission here. Accomplished in about 10 minutes from this point!

The autoroute A71 just before crossing the river la Sioule and about 50 kilometers more to Clermont-Ferrand. The Puy de Dome (+1464 m) was already visible at the horizon at this point. The A71 is getting more sloping and descending from this point. Fun to drive for sure!

Before 8h00 driving around Paris on my way to Clermond-Ferrand with a short stopover in Thiais to take a photo and flash the re-activated space invader PA_1141. Photo taken near Créteil in the département Val-de-Marne (94). Taken through the window pane of the car in motion.

A86 (sometimes called "Paris super-périphérique") is the second ring road around Paris, France. It follows an irregular path around Paris with the distance from the city centre (Notre Dame) varying from 8–16 kilometres (5.0–9.9 mi). A part of A86 makes it a longest urban motorway tunnel (10 km of continuous tunnel), opened in two parts in 2009 and 2011. [Wikipedia]

The advantage of driving on an early Sunday morning that there is almost no traffic and hardly any trucks. This photo is taken a bit before the sortie (10) Dourdan and toll station 'Gare de Péage Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines' but still in the départment Essonne.

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Kyle M. Shendler, a bulk fuel specialist with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, and a native of Albany, New York, prepares to refuel a CH-53K Super Stallion with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461, 2nd Marine Air Wing, during bulk refuel operations on Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, Dec. 11, 2024. Shendler was selected as Warrior of the Week for his exceptional initiative to develop, coordinate, and execute Bulk Fuel Company’s comprehensive training plan. His decisiveness and mental agility enabled the successful administration of eight training classes, educating 130 Marines across a wide range of critical skill sets, directly contributing to mission readiness and team cohesion. When asked about what the importance of being a noncommissioned officer is, Shendler replied, “Marines are watching you every day, so it is important to set the right example for them.” he continues, “The big thing for me is making sure I have the knowledge and skills to properly teach them, so I can gain their trust and respect.” Each week, 2nd MLG recognizes one outstanding Marine or Sailor that goes above and beyond in their duties and embodies the qualities of an outstanding service member.
