52 Weeks Project

A tribute to Serge Gainsbourg, a smoker and above that a French singer, songwriter, pianist, film composer, poet, painter, screenwriter, writer, actor, and director...

Locations: Rue Serge Gainsbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France.

Coordinates: 45°47'20" N 3°5'55" E

Reason: Made a three day roadtrip to the city of Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne to capture all 31 new space invaders made during the second invasion wave in January 2016. And of course flash all 34 'flashable' invaders in the game FlashInvaders from which 4 from the first invasion wave in 2001 (1 is not flashable due to vandalism with a paintball).

CLR_14: This huge space invader in the Northern outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand is worth 100 points and dedicated to Serge Gainsbourg. Invader must be a fan of Serge as PA_801 in Paris (7ème) was a tribute to Gainsbourg as well. Date of invasion must be around 24 to 26 January 2016.

Serge Gainsbourg: Serge Gainsbourg (born Lucien Ginsburg; 2 April 1928 – 2 March 1991) was a French singer, songwriter, pianist, film composer, poet, painter, screenwriter, writer, actor, and director. Regarded as one of the most important figures in French popular music, he was renowned for his often provocative and scandalous releases, as well as his diverse artistic output, which embodied genres ranging from jazz, mambo, world, chanson, pop and yé-yé, to rock and roll, progressive rock, reggae, electronic, disco, new wave, and funk. Gainsbourg's varied musical style and individuality make him difficult to categorize although his legacy has been firmly established and he is often regarded as one of the world's most influential popular musicians.

His lyrical work incorporated a vast amount of clever word play to hoodwink the listener, often for humorous, provocative, satirical or subversive reasons. Common types of word play in his songs include mondegreen, onomatopoeia, rhyme, spoonerism, dysphemism, paraprosdokian and pun. Through the course of his career, Gainsbourg wrote over 550 songs, which have been covered more than a thousand times by a wide range of artists. Since his death, Gainsbourg's music has reached legendary stature in France. He has also gained a cult following in the English-speaking world, with numerous artists influenced by his arrangements. CLR_14 [100 points]

One of the most iconic space invaders made by Invader during this invasion wave in Clermont-Ferrand. One of the two space invaders in Clermont-Ferrand worth 100 points. Rue Serge Gainsbourg, North from the center of Clermont. Yes, vieille Canaille... is marked at the screen of FlashInvaders when you flashed this one. And yes, Mister Bloomingdales loves being part of the invasion of Clermont-Ferrand.

THE INVASION OF CLERMONT-FERRAND

The first (two?) invasion wave(s) of the center of Clermont-Ferrand occured in the year 2000 and consisted 8 space invaders, 4 of them are still there (including 1 re-activation) and flashable.

In January 2016 Clermont-Ferrand was invaded again, the 3rd invasion wave took place:

"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

Autoroute [A1] | Goyencourt 10/04/2016 06h52

"On the road (again)..." is what Invader said on Instagram (Instagram - Invaderwashere...'on the road') when he was going to Clermont-Ferrand for a second "invasion wave" in this city in January 2016. For me, a plan for a roadtrip to this city in the Auvergne was born. Left Amsterdam early to be around 14h00 in the area of Clermont-Ferrand, a drive of more than 940 kilometers.

This photo is taken on the A1 (Autoroute du Nord) near Goyencourt, already more than 3 hours on my way to Clermont-Ferrand.

Roadtrip Amsterdam-Clermont-Ferrand

Left Amsterdam at 03h08 in the rain with a temperature of 8° C. Crossed the Belgium border after 113 kilometers at 04h12. And the Belge-French border at 05h43 after 263 kilometers. The lowest temperature was at the A1 where the temparature was only 1° C and the highest temperature was at the arrival in Clermont-Ferrand, 24° C.

On the way I flashed space invader PA_1141 near Centre Commercial Belle-Epine in Thiais (94) at 08h15 and continued on the A10 to Orléans. A coffeel stop at Aire de Limours-Janvry from 08h43 to 09h21, a fuel stop at Total at Aire d'Orléans Saran (gas price 1.39 /liter) at 10h10 after 620 kilometers.

Early lunch, late breakfast stop at McDo Saran from 10h29 to 10h55.

From Orléans to the Clermont-Ferrand area over the A71. First visiting space invader CLR_27 hidden in the forest North of Clermont-Ferrand near Châtelguyon and before going the hotel flashing 3 space invaders North of the center of Clermont-Ferrand (CLR_35, CLR_14 and CLR_16) including a frappé stop at McDonald's Clermont-Ferrand Stade.

Arrived at hôtel Kyriad Clermont-Ferrand Centre in the Rue Bonnaubaud at 15h49 after driving 952,0 kilometers this day. Temperature 23° C and altitude +377 meters.

Almost arriving at destination! I was on my way to capture and flash space invader CLR_27 which is located about 20 kilometers from the city of Clermont-Ferrand. In the forest. I was on a mission here. Accomplished in about 10 minutes from this point!

The autoroute A71 just before crossing the river la Sioule and about 50 kilometers more to Clermont-Ferrand. The Puy de Dome (+1464 m) was already visible at the horizon at this point. The A71 is getting more sloping and descending from this point. Fun to drive for sure!

Autoroute A71

The A71 autoroute is a highway in central France. It is also called the l'Arverne. It starts at Orléans and ends at Clermont-Ferrand. Opened between 1980 and 1989.

Before 8h00 driving around Paris on my way to Clermond-Ferrand with a short stopover in Thiais to take a photo and flash the re-activated space invader PA_1141. Photo taken near Créteil in the département Val-de-Marne (94). Taken through the window pane of the car in motion.

A86 (sometimes called "Paris super-périphérique") is the second ring road around Paris, France. It follows an irregular path around Paris with the distance from the city centre (Notre Dame) varying from 8–16 kilometres (5.0–9.9 mi). A part of A86 makes it a longest urban motorway tunnel (10 km of continuous tunnel), opened in two parts in 2009 and 2011. [Wikipedia]

The advantage of driving on an early Sunday morning that there is almost no traffic and hardly any trucks. This photo is taken a bit before the sortie (10) Dourdan and toll station 'Gare de Péage Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines' but still in the départment Essonne.
