Another bright sunshiny day in Iceland. April can be cold, warm, sunny, cloudy, windy, calm, and one can experience rain, hail, snow, sleet, and fog...and that's all in one day! Well, perhaps not. Some days are great days for walking with bright sun (a blessing after the dark and dreary month of February). This was the day after I was away all day fishing. I took the little boy out for a walk. He always wants to throw rocks in the water. So, we headed to the beach. But there was a Spring tide and the beach was hundreds of meters of mud and seaweed. So, we wandered toward the harbor. We found a good spot where several tide pools lay among the seaweed-covered rocks. Whenever that happens, finding crabs always takes precedence over throwing rocks.

We found several crabs...along with rock gunnels, a sculpin, snails, various worms, amphipods, isopods, sea stars, sponges, a few urchins, and some of the tiniest sea anemones I've ever seen.

A cloudy panorama from this morning, luckily this cooler weather is leaving us (for now).

I guess we can't have perfect blue skies all the time....

Picture taken at dusk of my neighbors barn. It was a very cloudy and grey sky.

Blue Hill Overlook on Cadillac Mountain

Acadia National Park

Mount Desert Island, Maine

Our mid-September trip to New England found us in warmer, more humid weather than anticipated, and also with more clouds and fog than expected -- but a bright spot occurred our second evening in the Acadia area. Although there were plenty of clouds, they were broken rather than being a solid mass (above), so we set out for Cadillac Mountain to see what we could see. So did many, many others -- large crowds in what we thought was an off-season -- and we didn't make it to the top of Cadillac, due to a stream of cars overflowing the parking area. I turned around and went a short distance down the road to Blue Hill Overlook, which proved to be a very good place to view the sunset. Arriving about an hour before sunset, we had no trouble getting a parking space (Blue Hill Overlook did overflow before sunset, though) and I staked out my position, along with several other photographers. As seen in this shot, taken almost exactly at sunset, the sunset display itself was rather weak; a large portion of the crowd left right after sunset, but those who stayed were rewarded with outstanding afterglow (see next post). The view here includes Eagle Lake in the foreground, a small pond that I think is Aunt Betty Pond, and bays on the west side of Mt. Desert Island (Western Bay on some, but not all, maps).

Acadia, the oldest national park in eastern United States, was created in 1916 as Sieur de Monts National Monument, became Lafayette National Park in 1919, and in 1929 was renamed Acadia National Park. Its 49,000-plus acres lie principally on Mt. Desert Island, but partly on a few nearby islands and Schoodic Peninsula.

This is from of a few rainy days here in Jefferson City, MO. This wasn't the end as it rained more later and is expected to rain a few more days.

Beautiful photo of a mountain in Alaska.

The weather forecast says cloudy and rain. A look out the window confirms the clouds, but no rain (yet). The overcast is a shame, since it will prevent me from getting a glimpse of the partial eclipse today. Will I notice it getting darker? Hard to say. The maximum is supposed to be at 10:55.
