Now on the I-80 Interchange at the Elm Creek Nebraska Exit.
I did a 90 degree turn to the left and this was right in front me. 2 tornadoes down at the same time.
I could hear the trees being ripped out of the ground and they sounded like a thousand snapping toothpicks was the tornado to my right. This one in front of me was destroying houses and trailers right over / past the Platte River
The winds physically knocked me down to the ground and once I got up I took a few snaps and then it pushed me back into the ditch. I got up and watch my truck (2 ton) slide across the Interchange...in park. The other truck in front of me got the **** out of there.... It was time to go. But I did capture a few shots before I exited this nasty environment.

Heading back from Aurora area... Lots of pics from this storm as we traveled along eastbound back to Kearney. Just before Grand Island we stopped at the rest stop to get these pics.
This back end of the storm was producing some good hail & received a severe warning just before we headed west back to Kearney.

About that evening...
An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...
I was that Lucky Guy that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence..

As the first supercell had now moved north towards the North Platte Area. I was in the path of the 2nd storm gaining intensity and severity.
This was a larger complex of developing storm cells and I thought it was going become outflow dominate due to the large bow on radar from the outflow.
Though I would be wrong and this would stay organized and one could say I was in for a treat. Patiently awaiting I had the perfect spot again for this end of the year footage.
I was directly in the notch of this storm. Multi lightning bolts, cloud to cloud and cloud to ground were illuminating the ski every few seconds. Clearly defined cloud structure as one can see the developing wall cloud as it approached my location.
Yes this was very dangerous but this is what I do. Most never will or ever get to see a storm like this. Not this up close and personal as I did this evening. A wicked good way to end my Storm Chasing Weather Adventures in 2019!

These were not severe storms. In fact it was about 100F and humid. Normal for us here this time of year. We were right on the edge of a passing front. Day 3 of 3 for storms in south central Nebraska.
These small spurts of cells were trying to form, and one did eventually, but wasn't able to catch up or get into position to get that special shot. There were a few good captures from this day but not many.

Some of my best severe weather photography came out of this night supercell. This was a storm to remember in 2014.
This storm cell was at first, a very slow mover moving southeast about 9-10mph before it even reached northern Buffalo County. I had to work late and I was considering not to even go out. Glad I made an effort to do so....
Most of these captures were north of Odessa Nebraska US, and some in the city limits of Kearney,

Late August and I wasn't chasing this day... In fact I was preparing to head out to the east coast to catch up with Hurricane Dorian.
Just few blocks from my home here in Kearney Nebraska with no warnings issued this was creaping in from the west northwest. This thunderstorm didn't become severe until it passed over the city of Kearney. But as it approached... the sky was talking and I was listening...
I couldn't resist! With camera in hand I was out to capture a few hundred pics of what was in front of me. A wicked good photographic Nebraska stormscapes and some epic Nebraska Thunderheads!

It's Nebraska ... This our go time for severe weather & she didn't disappoint. This was the beginning of a 3 day severe weather event in South Central Nebraska.
These billowing thunderheads that were north of Grand Island & moving southeast into into Central City.
I was already under the base of another storm That's why had to get a decent zoom on these images...

Waiting...
Due to the El Niño (The Super El Niño that is forming in the Pacific) is going to hinder the storm development this year here in Nebraska.
I'll be honest. Our weather pattern here is not favorable for development of severe weather in 2023. June usually comes in with a boom. Simply it hasn't. 30 Day models right now have all the storms north & south of Nebraska. It is the Omega Bubble effect & Nebraska is Bullseye for 2023. So I'm gonna take what I can get.
I have been ailing a really bad back injury from years past. Hindered my chasing in mid to late May. Was unable to do so because I simply couldn't get into my truck.
Feeling better the first part of June I pulled out the cams out in front of the homestead & captured this nice early June storm here in south central Nebraska. Severe Warned but that was about it. Had some small hail & much need rain.
I enjoyed getting out & back on the Hunt!

Mid August 2014.... A very hot & humid Sunday afternoon. With only a %30 chance of storms developing, we had a chance for a severe weather to develop. Central & South Central Nebraska were due for a good August Storm.
Conditions were just right for storms to brew. Right after 4pm CDT, northern Buffalo County (just north of my location) was getting hammered with 2'" diameter hail. This storm was on a direct course to skim just to the north of the city.
As I got into position, moved a few miles north to Riverdale Nebraska to watch this storm move into the area. Just the beginning of this storm was photogenic . Talk about Ominous... This instability before the storm was insane. Huge mammatus cloud cluster above this approaching shelf cloud. Truly foreboding cloud structure as it creased ever so closer.

Mid October... 2023
Final Chase Day at hand for 2023....
Warm and with SPC Active warnings that afternoon of severe weather. Stayed in the South Central Nebraska Hwy 6 Neighborhood.
Some wicked good, or should I say fantastic views of the out waves of moisture to mix in with spookiness of October. Late season supercells along the dryline were forming & I had to get underneath! You know for the view that are contained within! Oh I got my share that day.
Not to spoil the fun... No Tornado that day.. or at least I didn't see it. Came over the 2 way that the was one on the ground exactly where my cameras was pointed... however bad positing on my part. If it was there I didn't physically see it. It doesn't mean it wasn't there...
The active warning for the Tornado didn't fire off on my alarm till I was already due east of Minden Nebraska. Didn't have the best plan for attack here. I knew it was coming but where I deiced to park wasn't the best viewing position. When that alarm goes off & didn't have the best road network to navigate though the city or around the city of Minden. So I decide to stay put since it was already heading my way.
Sometimes this is a good decision, that day it wasn't. I had played this day out a little to shy & got caught with just an outflow dominate storm that afternoon after the Tornado Warning.
It was a Fun way to end the 2023 Chase Season... Can't Wait for 2024!

Solo Chase Day & Close to Home....
Luv it when the chases are in my backyard. Not having to drive 3 states and 1200 miles in 1 day is relief. I know I'm not the only chaser that says that. This was a phenomenal afternoon of severe weather. When I say this... It means that its photogenic & for the most part not effecting the farms, agriculture, livestock & the human element.
Mammatus before the storm, then I decided to bail on this first storm for the next which was to the north about 25 miles. This storm had wicked good rotation under the base. Even though it was high based it was producing some freakin awesome views.
The storm had overtaken my position and I had a 40 min drive to get back in front of this storm. It was on my tail the whole way back to the I-80 corridor. Though a little late I was still able to get back in front of shelf cloud. The teeth on the outflow were almost scraping the ground. It gave the effect of a funnel but it was not. Been doing this to long to make sure I know the difference.
That was a hoot. Though I waited til the last minute. I got swallowed by the core & had to wait it out. Want to see what its like out in the open with no shelter... This I have also done a billion times. 50mph winds rocked my truck! That was fun!
Finally, I blazed it backed to Kearney for this Storms Finale... Beautiful Sunset light illuminates the exiting storm with a Anvil Rain & Mammatus Cluster ... It was truly a Sight to See!!!!

It was another exciting local chase day in South Central Nebraska. A real treat! I didn't have to travel far from home to catch the severe weather that afternoon.
By mid afternoon, mother nature was on the prowl. Dry line had formed just about 30 miles to my west and storms were firing. Towers building and we had sufficient shear that day. We had all the right ingredients for severe weather to do her thing.
Incredible photogenic inflow bands with possible wall cloud forming just to the west of my location. I couldn't have picked a better position. In a safe spot, I camped out here for a few minutes as the storm cell was pushing right over my location! This cell didn't produce a funnel and quickly diminished shortly after these captures.
Listening to the incoming weather reports. There was a tornado warning with the storm cell just forming to the southwest of Elm Creek Nebraska. Its about 20 miles to the southwest, and I had to pack up and get going if was going to try get snaps of this storm cell as it produced some of my best captures from June of 2008

Right on the Nebraska / Kansas Border
NWS had the severe weather events for that day were to be about 200 miles to the east of south central Nebraska. Though we still had a risk of severe weather, but with the 100 Temps and lots of moisture to work with... it was bound to happen.
Finally, after waiting for a extremely slow train crossing Hwy 136 west, we were able to get south of Red Cloud Nebraska. Met up with some other chasers and we all were going to go follow the leading severe warned cells in central Kansas. Low and behold the cell just south of Red Clouds had just went into a warning. Can you say right place.... Right Time!
This was simply the best structured cell that I have caught up this season for tornadic activity. This cell did not produce a tornado, but it had rotation, hail, and torrential rain. Eye Candy for the Storm Chaser in mind....

It was the reason why I got into storm photography. It has taken years of practice to capture it without a lightning trigger. Patients is the Key. But when it happens you have to be ready. It doesn't stay around for very long.
Had the equipment locked and stocked. Knew the storm was coming and wala... It took til August 2021 to do but finally some incredibly good and wicked lightning!

Humid and the mosquitoes were eating me alive...
I wouldn't have to chase this evening to catch some incredible Nebraska views of this supercell that formed just to the north of Hastings Nebraska. The perfect sunlight cresting against this storm cell was perfect in every way. I knew I was in for a treat. Just a few blocks from home I set up shop!
We had a dying cell to our west creating a beautiful sunset and I would eventually get a few snaps of this. Though was pointing due east from my location on the outskirts of Kearney Nebraska. It had all of my attention. 4 Cameras in position for this event. Pointing due east I was watching these billowing thunderheads on the updraft and it was a sight to see.
I also knew then that this was going to produce come incredible lighting after dark. I was prepared and ready!

Smoking Hot & Humid. Uncomfortable Humid...
Summer storm on the western plains of Nebraska. Already had produced 2 Tornadoes that after in counties to our Northwest.
We were all hoping that this storm would stay organized long enough to reach eastern Custer County. We would be in luck to see the storm...
Photographically, some incredible storm structure shots... But this storm lost her steam before we could ever chase it.

It was a chase day.... though my luck this year to capture the extreme weather events in Nebraska has been few and far between.
The storms this year have been off and on. High Precip storms than only produce strong winds and mostly some small hail. Good for the communities and the farmers. We need the physical rain for the abundant crops across the great plains of Nebraska.. So I guess I'm not going to complain!
The cells were under a severe thunderstorm warning when I was approaching from the south. Some beautiful updrafts, on these developing Turkey Necks!

I had moved just a few miles to the west of Hwy 183. Just south of the I-80 Elm Creek Interchange. In case this cell did develop a tornado, I wanted quick access to the north.
In the perfect location for this developing cell. Forming wall cloud on the southwest part of this storm. True storm chasing eye candy!

This cell was a slow mover... only about 10mph almost due south. Severe warned and producing some real eye candy. Backbuilding, it was a sight to see live.
Though sunset was upon me and I was loosing light fast. Perfect timing for this set of captures!!!

Raindrops & Lightning!
It was simply one of the best storm chases for 2015. As night was upon us we still had a 3 hour drive back home.
Its that time of year when storm cells redevelop out in western Kansas / Nebraska and just go on all night. We were in the path of most of these redeveloping cells on that nights drive back.
Intense cc and cg lightning accompanied these cells. I can't say that I didn't stop and take a few captures....

3nd Chase of 2017...
Another early April moderate risk day in South Central Nebraska. Which would turn out to a bust. Storm really didn't fire till after sunset.
Waiting for the instability to fire the storms. Was in the right place, just mother nature had other plans. This particular cell was just building and didn't produce anything but a scenic updraft.
Some nice Nebraska Storm Eye Candy to tide me over till the storms that evening.

It's June, Hot Humid... It's Prime Time Storm Season...
Though we only had a 10% chance of any type of development of storm that afternoon & evening. In fact all of the storms that day were to stay in western Nebraska and move to the north out of range of South Central Nebraska. That obviously was wrong!
I had just finished putting on the 2nd coat of stain on the new deck. Friends had stopped over to check on my progress. I had been so involved on completing the task at hand I didn't notice the lighting to the south of the city.
Let it be said I was unprepared and these 2 storms that rolled though that evening were unexpected. It was the reason I was finishing the staining of the deck. Though I did have everything charged and ready to go just in case. Wrapped up what I could and covered the new patio as best I could which would be a waste of time due to it all blew away!
This is the 2nd set of storms for that evening. I got lucky and into position just to the west of the city to watch this shelf cloud from its origin to when it came overhead.
Can I say priceless. Captured this life cycle of a shelf cloud... It was a nasty bugger of a storm also. 60+mph hour winds and some torrential rain.

Rare for Nebraska in November that is....
There was some risk of severe weather that afternoon. In fact.... way out of season severe weather. There was just enough instability by afternoon to allow the thunderstorms to develop, strengthen, and even spin up a few tornadoes in the 4-5 p.m. CST time frame.
I had a 5 hour drive back from Missouri and was exhausted. Plus I had to work in a few hours so chasing this storm was just not possible that afternoon. But I did venture out to capture a few snaps of that afternoons events.
Pictured here were the cells effecting the Red Cloud to Clay Center Nebraska areas. I was just to the south of the I-80 Minden Interchange. Found a cozy spot without any powerlines and pointed my camera to the east southeast.

Just spent 2 full weeks in ICU @ hospital. Honestly, I was still not feeling the best... but I have this passion for lightning.
This storm was about 50 miles away tracking from Grand Island Nebraska down to the south near Hastings Nebraska. From my POV it was almost due west of my location. My better half... & I had a busy day and I was glad to be home after that little jaunt. Long day means early to bed. Though she hit the sack and I stayed up to check up on my storm chasing duties and what I had missed over the past 2 weeks...
All of my gear was charged and ready to go.. but I was under strict orders not to go out... but I did anyway. lol I had to sneak out to do so.
I just went out to one of my places I know for good open skies and took a few snaps with my new camera and lens. They didn't turn out the best due to I wasn't use to this new setup. Though not bad for not knowing the gear and of course I wasn't supposed to be out.
It all turned out good. I didn't get into trouble after I told her. Pics came out well for what I went through to get them here!

Early May ... 2024
Vivid streaks of light illuminate a turbulent sky over a barren landscape at night, revealing the dynamic nature of an approaching thunderstorm. Flashes of lightning appear to rip through the darkness, creating an atmosphere of raw elemental power.
Check out the Tornado on the lower right part of the screen... This was in Axtell Nebraska as I was pointing the cams to the due west. Confirmed on Radar... Yes It was coming right at me so I didn't stay long!

Late July 2023...
This month of storms was just down right jaw dropping. Why not continue since we didn't have any storms in May or June! Overtime for July is the way I like it!
90% of the time of year in South Central Nebraska is Hot & Humid. It is normally the beginning of our dry season. But not in 2023.
In the path of the Jet Stream that day that forced some severe thunderstorm development over south central Nebraska. We were not excepting anything super severe but a tornado or 2 is always possible this time of year.
Gear Primed & excited about the views I'm going to get for this event that day. I knew they were going to be photogenic.

Early April ... 2024
Dark, ominous clouds hang low over a flat Nebraska landscape. A 5% Tornado Risk that afternoon. An impending severe thunderstorm coming off the horizon.
Positioned just to the southwest of Holdrege Nebraska & right in the path of its fire.
A Nebraska farmstead is visible near the horizon, dwarfed by the vastness of the sky and the intensity of this weather event.

No tornadoes on this day's chase, but some incredible supercell structure out on the plains of Nebraska.
We started the day with a supercell that had several meso structures being reported from radar. This storm was tracking slowly about 12 knots cresting from the northwest to southeast. Classic June storm structure for this time of year in Nebraska. Northwest of North Platte Nebraska it had reported wall cloud and we definitely wanted a piece of this action.
We arrived as it was gaining strength as it has pushed through Maxwell Nebraska. We stopped in Brady, just to the southeast via I-80 corridor to get the bugs off of the windshield and as the storm was gaining strength. We had stopped just a few miles to the south of Brady we set up shop to catch this storm. Nice clear beautiful structure accompanied the underbelly of this supercell. Though we had a clear cut defined wall cloud this storm never did show us her tornadic teeth.
After about an hour on this storm in the same position (rare for us to do this) we eventually had to back off and get back to the east. We had to get south of Gothenburg just a few miles off the I-80 exit area for the next structured shot of this supercell. Oh we got just what we were looking for! Phenomenal base rotation!
Eventually we had backed off again as the hail core was approaching. Plus this cell was loosing its steam. We moved back to the I-80 corridor then south of Cozad Nebraska and this cell was in redevelopment mode and we had some waiting to do. Though not a long wait as this original cell fizzled out but we had one more chance for good structure south of Overten Nebraska. We headed to Loomis Nebraska for another treat to end the day. Oh did I say treat? We got a whole bunch more eye candy than expected.
Just to the east of Loomis Nebraska we encountered some incredible supercell structure. This storm wasn't going to be shy, and she eventually showed us some teeth.
Personal Note: For some odd reason I didn't clear my memory card on my last chase, and I ran out of room on my SD Card. I had to stop shooting after the wall cloud was right over my location my Loomis Nebraska. I didn't have time to pull out my spare card and load it due to the strength and this fast moving cell. This storm cell became outflow dominate and man do I mean dominate. We got caught in the outflow boundary several times with tons of gustnadoes and almost haboobish. I did have my trusty camera with me... I was in the drivers seat so when we had a chance, I did capture some incredible pics that blew me away literally.
All in all. I'm not always about catching the tornado. I had some good friends and fellow storm chasers along side that day. In my opinion... just another EPIC chase day in Nebraska!!! Woot Woot. More to come!

It was a chase day.... though my luck this year to capture the extreme weather events in Nebraska has been few and far between.
The storms this year have been off and on. High Precip storms than only produce strong winds and mostly some small hail. Good for the communities and the farmers. We need the physical rain for the abundant crops across the great plains of Nebraska.. So I guess I'm not going to complain!
The cells were under a severe thunderstorm warning when I was approaching from the south. Some beautiful updrafts, on these developing Turkey Necks!
