The Finland Pavilion "Kirnu" is surrounded by a lake, appearing to float on the water. It has the slogan "Sharing Inspiration," where ideas can meet and mix. The design draws inspiration from Finnish nature. Elements reinterpreted in the pavilion include the shape of small rocks found on coastal islands, the surface of a fish, reflection on water, framed view of the sky and smell of tar on wood.

Finland attempts to capture the ideas of freedom, creativity, innovation, community, health and nature in its exhibition. The Exhibition Story extends through three spaces: the Welcoming introduces essences of Finland as well as the Virtual Guide (aka Spirit of Finland), accompanying the guest along the exhibition. The second area opens up breathtaking magical landscapes, attached to the foundations of Finland: nature, national character, society, economy, education and culture. The third area is named City of Dreams, an interactive and beautiful presentation of elements of Better Life, as well as solutions and perspectives Finland wants to share. The architecture of the exhibition is functional and clean, serves as a background to present art, design and high technology. The flooring of best-quality Finnish wood and beautifully lit snow-cave or cloudlike structures in the air connects the spacial elements, along with one of the largest textile artworks in the world on the inner wall. The Story is free of verbal commentary, with only ambient soundscape created by Sibelius-Academy. The elements of balanced, sustainable and enjoyable urban-oriented life are presented in many aspects.

As the moon got lower towards the horizon, the high winds above us got faster and louder.

Occasionally, a white puff of precipitation would pass high above us very fast, not at all cloudlike, and always heading towards Ghost Mountain in the distance.

As we prepared for bed, the moon had set and the sounds of distant laughter sprang up from all directions. I knew in my rational mind that these were packs of coyotes, but there was something strange about their howls; they sounded so much like the drunken laughter of women. For the rest of the night, I couldn't shake off the eerie familiarity and humanness of their cackles.

I had read that Native Americans who lived here hundreds of hears ago believed these mountains to be haunted, but staying here at night certainly gave me the feeling that they were on to something.

Maine Lobster Meatballs with Rock Shrimp ‘Bacon Bits’,

Baby Shiitake Mushrooms Poached in Truffle Butter

and ‘Clouds’ of Fresh Goat Cheese

The Lobster Meatballs are back! We debuted our first ever version of this dish last year and it was a huge hit. Three good-sized meatballs of fresh Maine Lobster meat ground and bound together with a bit of prosciutto and, yes, lots of butter, are served on a ‘cloud’ of locally made fresh goat cheese from Nicolau Farms, where the husband and wife team milks their goats and makes the cheese to order for us. The wonderful cheese – ethereally light, mild, slightly tangy and flavorful - is whipped with a little organic milk using a hand blender to make it airy and cloudlike. A sauce of black truffle butter is employed to poach cultivated baby shiitake mushrooms procured by Connie Green, the Mushroom Lady, in Napa. Then we take real Gulf rock shrimp and cure it as we would our house made pork bacon for a really lovely, unique smoky flavor and crisp texture as a last delectable element to the dish.

from Wikipedia:

NGC 5474 is a peculiar dwarf galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major. It is one of several companion galaxies of the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101), a grand-design spiral galaxy. Among the Pinwheel Galaxy's companions, this galaxy is the closest to the Pinwheel Galaxy itself. The gravitational interaction between NGC 5474 and the Pinwheel Galaxy has strongly distorted the former. As a result, the disk is offset relative to the nucleus.

The star formation in this galaxy (as traced by hydrogen spectral line emission) is also offset from the nucleus. NGC 5474 shows some signs of a spiral structure. As a result, this galaxy is often classified as a dwarf spiral galaxy, a relatively rare group of dwarf galaxies.

The Lagoon Nebula was discovered by Giovanni Hodierna before 1654 and is one of only two star-forming nebulae faintly visible to the eye from mid-northern latitudes. Seen with binoculars, it appears as a distinct oval cloudlike patch with a definite core. Within the nebula is the open cluster NGC 6530. The Lagoon Nebula is estimated to be between 4,000-6,000 light-years away from the Earth.Like many nebulas, it appears pink in time-exposure color photos but is gray to the eye peering through binoculars or a telescope.

The pylon or stele in front of the Tablets of the Missing is 69 feet high and

triangular in plan. Faced in Roman travertine, it is surmounted by a sculptured figure in Baveno granite designed by Sidney Waugh of New York. The figure represents the spirit of peace hovering over the fallen, bearing olive branches. Flying beside her out of cloudlike forms is the American eagle, guardian of justice and honor. This sculpture as well as the reliefs in the two atria were executed by Polli and Cardini of Baveno, Italy. The following dedicatory inscription appears on the pylon in English and Italian:

1941-1945

IN PROUD MEMORY OF HER SONS AND IN HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO THEIR SACRIFICES THIS MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ERECTED BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

The memorial is protected from possible landslide damage by massive reinforced concrete walls on its sides and rear.

James Dunn is best known for French Renaissance apartment houses and flats scattered throughout many neighborhoods in San Francisco. It is a style of architecture that is very uncommon for San Francisco. Cloudlike facades, wrought iron balconies, curves are everywhere, decorative details is unlimited, with oval dining rooms and lobbies with wood paneling that slide to reveal liquor cabinets and bookcases. Dunn was a self-taught architect who was born and raised in San Francisco.

The Church of Saint Louis, Bishop of Toulouse is a lofty facade with curved, almost cloudlike outlines and cornice volutes. Almost in staggering contrast are the columns set in high relief. Combined with the arched windows and the portal with decorative keystone, the Church of Saint Louis, Bishop of Toulouse presents a fanciful facade.

These soft folds are so inviting. The flower so delicate, almost cloudlike. This dreamy scene came upon me while walking by a creek, and I couldn't help but be lured in.

During Rodin's carrer there was a steady market for his compositions of amorous subjects. One of themost popular was "Eternal Spring" which exists in several sizes and colors, including a variant in which the man's left arm is unsupported or shown resting on trees or cloudlike shapes. (Six marble versions ere carved as well.) Rodin sold the casting rights in 1898 to the Barbedienne foundry, which produced between 200 and 250 examples of this composition. The one displayed here was cast by that foundry in Rodin's lifetime.

Claudel transformed her Little Lady to create this image of Aurora, the ancient Roman goddess of the dawn. She cleverly replaced the hair wit a cloudlike mass that spirals around the face, perhaps alluding to morning mist, The effect of softness achieved in this marble attests to Claudel's carving skills."
