Taking shelter in the blowing snow. Colvin, Dave and I were covered in rime ice from the freezing fog and snow. My pack and ice axe and my carbon fiber poles were coated. As well as our clothes, faces and Colvin's fur.
The Ruff Wear gear Colvin was wearing stood up to the punishment of 0F windchills and rime. Although, his K9 Topcoat full body softshell with hood would have been much better under these conditions.
Periodically I rewarmed Colvin's snout, eyes and ears with my hands to keep him from developing frost bite. However, I didn't put my goggles or face mask on so I could see how bad the conditions were, and it never got to the point that it was truly unsafe. He had fur over his exposed skin, I had a well designed Marmot hood! I'll call it even.

A little shortcut George found around the tunnel. The tunnel is actually on the other side of the right rock face, about 20ft inside the rock.
Personally while the tunnel is a bit more tricky in snowshoes, it is also a lot wide when wearing overnight packs. I'd choose the tunnel in that case! Plus the tunnel is more fun than a lemon squeezer.
