Quite a rare visitor I believe, on the approaches to Newcastle Airport via the coast. Not the best weather to try and get photos but this is the best I could do with the cloudbase. Canon EOS R, Sigma 60-600mm Sport.

Sounds Air's sole-remaining Caravan I, ZK-PDM. I'd flown in on this from Wellington. The flight was meant to land at Picton, but as this airport is surrounded by high ground and the cloudbase was low, our pilot sensibly decided a landing at Woodbourne was a better option.

Now just when you think we're down into the foothills, we're climbing again and again, loopback after loopback, higher and higher to cloudbase.

Yes, that's our "highway" on the right.

SoapBox Labs licenses its technology to a wide range of application areas that, to date, have not been served by accurate children’s speech technology, such as educational products for literacy and language learning as well as learning games.

CFM Shadow microlight blown over at Redhill

RAF Finningley Battle of Britain Display 19 September 1992

OM4 200mm Zuiko Kodak Ektar 100

Poor weather. Dull, low cloudbase, grotty visibility.

Still unclear on the Welsh for no running, no bombing or no petting.

This was taken on a rainy walk up to the disused Cwmorthin slate quarry at Blaenau Ffestiniog. As Wikipedia notes, "although the town is in the centre of the Snowdonia National Park, the boundaries of the Park are specifically arranged to omit the town with its substantial slate waste heaps from the Park." You can see it clear as day in any map of the area.

The difference between the Snowdonia landscape and Blaenau Ffestiniog couldn't be starker. The hills are just vast piles of loose slate. Derelict railway lines go nowhere. It's a real shame. I'd love to go back some time and spend longer there to do it justice. From a photographer's perspective it's just a different kind of beauty.

Looks best on black.

Looking east from the wooded south side of Ennerdale Water, itself at ~115 m asl, up the forested valley above the lake. Ennerdale Forest largely clings to the valley floor; the bare upper slopes, their ridges extending ~10 km, strongly remind me of south-western Norway, particularly with the summits lost in cloud.

High Stile and High Crag, in cloud on the left (the highest part of the plantation on the left is directly below High Stile) rise to 806m and 744m respectively, before dropping back below the cloud at Scarth Gap, between Seat (561 m) and Hay Stacks (597 m). That puts the cloudbase at 600-650 m asl; higher than I thought.

Latterbarrow is at the left of the foreground, immediately beyond the head of the lake, with Ling Mell Plantations climbing Lingmell on the right. That ridge continues to rise off the edge of the image, but the top of that first steep slope is at 435 m asl.

Better On Black?

The Solo Turk ground crew salute their pilot as he taxies out for his display - the first slot of the Sunday schedule. Sadly, the cloudbase was too low, so he soon returned :-(

June 22, 2014 - Kearney Nebraska US

It was late & close to midnight. I went out about an hour before the storm was supposed visit our area. Storm slowed way down but was producing some nice ambient lighting against the lower cloudbase.

So I decided to stick around & see what was going to happen.

I wasn't going to be disappointed.

Could have done with a higher cloudbase. :-)

Weather building fast along the Palmer Divide in Colorado.

These grainy shots are not the best ever Reds shots, however!! They are a tribute to undoubtedly the best Aerobatic Display Team. The Reds performed at Belfast City on 4 October 2008 in a cloudbase around 1500feet in pouring rain. No one expected a display everyone was once again thrilled at the skill on display. There are ten Hawks in the shot, honestly!

Big On Black

Sitting on the threshold of runway 27 for about 20 minutes..waiting for the cloudbase to be high enough to rehearse his demo. And just when it started to rain, Zeke in Raptor 01 took off. Awesome sight!!

Limited by low cloudbase, the Red Arrows had to use their flat display at Bray. Still impressive though! The synchro pair do a fast pass. To see all 102 shots from the day, please visit midlanddeltic.smugmug.com/Aircraft-Trips/Bray-Air-Display...

A good day with 5500m QNH cloudbase over the Kalahari desert.

Got caught in the tail back at Newby Bridge but managed to get around it via Canny Hill. Langdale in the distance on this one. On the way out this morning, the cloudbase here was about 600-700 feet but a Tornado went north over the lake underneath the cloud as I drove along this section.
