This place was on my list, but we very much stumbled on it during a visit to and around Dunvegan. It really is a remarkable place more akin, I'd imagine, to the Carribean than the north of Scotland. It's a delightful stroll to a couple of white beaches made up, not of coral, but maerl (dried,calcified sea weed bleached by the sun).

just one of last nights beautiful clouds

Went off the Scorrybreac trail for a higher view of the surrounding landscape. We hiked up a steep grassy slope just next to the cliff of Rubha na h-Airde Glaise, to reach a plateau where another trail continues towards for six miles towards Storr. Although not very high up, the gusty wind that afternoon made my feet wobbled slightly. Eventually we had to scramble up the last bit the slope and be rewarded with this wonderful view of the craggy Ben Tianavaig and Loch (sea) Portree.

A view from the South side of Claigan Coral Beach on the Isle of Skye.

The entire beach is made up of tiny pieces of coral (and some larger ones too) and when the tide is out you can cross over a small stretch of sand (mid-left of this photo) to a small island that lies out in the bay.

From the top of the hill in the distance the clear water which laps up onto the coral covered beach gives off the most amazing colours when bathed in sunlight.

Sunlight in Scotland, oh yes indeed...
