The stone Mlýnská kolonáda (Mill Colonnade) was built in Pseudo-Renaissance style according to the design of Czech architect Josef Zítek between the years 1871 and 1881. The colonnade attic gable is decorated with 12 sandstone allegorical statues representing the months of the year. Inside the largest colonnade in Karlovy Vary, you may find the seeps of five mineral springs: the Mill Spring, the Rusalka Spring, the Prince Wenceslas Spring, the Libuše Spring, and the Rock Spring.

Acadia National Park in Maine. We finally decided to take a road trip, armed with Clorox wipes, masks, and of course toilet paper - the bare necessities in Covid 2020. Driving 725 miles with two dogs in one day was a challenge as we are not exactly youngsters, but we are here, and our Covid tests came in negative so we can avoid the otherwise required two week quarantine!
Seen from the Clorox Lead, NS GE24 is at Forest Park, Georgia, fixing to step under Old Dixie Highway with a GP33ECO and MP15DC. Oftentimes, prior to the ECO's "slug" mates arriving, they would be paired with any other local power. The 4700 ECOs had only been in the area for several months. June 2015
Getting started on Spring Cleaning with a dark twist. I set this up as a pulled back shot to give it a more voyeuristic feel.

Winchester and Western 102 rolls west out of town across White's Lake with a string of cars destined for Gore in August 27, 2024. The nine cars are being sent to the shops to get cleaned and readied for use at the Clorox Plant near Martinsburg, WV. This marks the first "train" to travel the original mainline to Gore since the Sand Mine shut down in February.
Another one from last spring of some fun local freight under wire action.
Previously relegated to working overnight under the cover of darkness, thanks to pandemic reduced train frequencies on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor NS local H04 has been working on days starting at 0900 at Baltimore's Bayview Yard. Normally they seem to work to the big Clorox plant in Perryman daily and as far north as Havre de Grace at least once a week.
Here they are seen having just finished working Plastipak Industries and starting back south. The old line is a 1 3/4 mile long stub of the old main line through town that lead to the original 1866 bridge. After the mainline was realigned slightly on the approach to the new and higher 1906 structure still in service the old line into town was retained and more than a century later it still has three rail served customers located on it. They are doing the Grace shuffle as they call it to get from main 2 to main 4 (the side they need to be on going south to access the Channel Lumber spur up to Clorox). Due to the track layout to accomplish this they pull south off the old line at OAK Interlocking down Main 2. Then they reverse north as seen here passing beneath the signal bridge with the color position lights. They will back out of sight around the curve 1.5 miles north clear of GRACE interlocking then reverse south and cross from 2 to 3 at GRACE and 3 to 4 back here at OAK.

There are not a whole lot of customers left directly accessed off the Northeast Corridor anymore, but this is one particularly important one (especially in these times!) that is busy enough to warrant five day a week service. Norfolk Southern local H04 based out of Bayview Yard in Baltimore has run up under the wires and just cleared up off Main 4 at MP 68.3and locked themselves in on the spur known as Channel Lumber. The pair of GP38-2s bracket two spacers and 14 revenue cars for the big Clorox Plant here in Perryman.

me: You did what?
bot: Sprayed some Clorox in your drink.
me: Why the hell would you do that?!?
bot: I was watching FOX News and the President said it could quickly disinfect you of the Corona virus. I'm helping.
me: (pushes his OFF button)
Possibly the last daylight run of this job for the foreseeable future as Amtrak will resume a full schedule on the Northeast Corridor starting Monday, June 7th, 2021. They worked Tilly Chemical near Martin State and Clorox in Perryman on this day.
10/19/21 Update: I was wrong. Still going strong in the daylight hours!

I illuminated the white truck with GST (teal) and warm white light from a handheld flashlight while the camera's shutter was open during this long exposure night photo. I'd like to tell you that the flare that looks like anamorphic lens flare was my clever light painting, but no, that's just the way it came out. This was part of a Notorious RGB 1165-mile photography safari with Mike Cooper, George Loo, and George the monkey.

On my way back from Washington DC yesterday I passed NS H04 at Aberdeen with road power setting cars off on the Aberdeen Industrial track. With that being so bizarre when I got to Wilmington I drove right back down to the Bush River bridge at Edgewood, MD. After working the Old Main in Havre de Grace and Clorox in Perryman, NS H04 is seen heading back south to Bayview Yard across the Bush River Bridge.

On Thursday, October 31, 2024 the Winchester and Western, seen here crossing Clark's Bridge over Back Creek west of Gainesboro, VA, ran a non-revenue run from the shops at Gore, VA to Winchester with nine empty 2 bay hopper cars in tow. These cars were part of a deadhead move back in late August. They have since been cleaned out, re-stenciled for OMTX and are destined for use at the Clorox Plant located south of Martinsburg, WV.
A little more history of the bridge itself...
Numbered 14A, it measures 96 feet in length with 3, 32 foot long girders. It was originally a 117 foot long thru frame trestle which was replaced with girders from one of the Cacapon River spans after the line to Wardensville was abandoned in 1934. The bridge again was rebuilt in 1978.
Norfolk Southern local job H04 returns south through Aberdeen MD after switching a customer at Havre De Grace. They'll switch Clorox a couple of miles ahead before returning to Bayview yard in Baltimore.

CBBI's crew has proudly arranged their cleaning supplies on the windshield sill. Perhaps a new ad campaign for Clorox wipes? If so, I need a cut of the profits!
Another take on this scene from last month's trip that I liked. Check out the sparking wire in this wider image.
Having wrapped up their work at the Clorox plant in Perryman Norfolk Southern local H04 is hustling back to Bayview Yard in Baltimore with 7 cars bracketed between three GP38-2s. They are crossing the Bush River southbound at MP 71.6 on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor mainline. The 2680 ft long concrete trestle built in 1913 has a deck girder Strauss bascule draw span with a 35 ft opening.
The bridge has to be opened manually and scheduled in advance with Amtrak per US Coast Guard regulations:
§ 117.547 Bush River.
The draw of the Amtrak Bridge, mile 6.8 at Perryman, shall operate as follows:
(a) Shall open twice a day from May 1 through October 31, on Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal holidays that fall on a Friday or a Monday, when a proper request has been received.
(b) Request for an opening is given to the Amtrak Assistant Division Engineer at 410-642-1588 and or email at BridgeOpeningRequest@Amtrak.com by an authorized representative of the Bush River Yacht Club no later than noon on the Friday just preceding the day of opening or, if that Friday is a Federal holiday, no later than noon on the preceding Thursday.
(c) Amtrak determines the times for openings and shall schedule the times:
(1) During daylight hours, six to ten hours apart; and
(2) One opening before noon and one after noon.
The weather had turned absolutely awful as I got this shot with wind and sleet coming down. But it was worth it for this classic view of freight under wire with a nice position light signal too. H04 used to be a night job and will presumably return to that schedule once Amtrak frequencies increase so I'm glad I got them when I did.

This April is like no other, with the absolutely necessary and vital lunacy of making sure everything you do has Clorox Wipes at the core of it...and my social distancing standard only BEGINS at 30-40 feet ...so I was glad to get the chance to meet up with my dear friend Chaney (at a distance) for a hike at Splinter Hill yesterday morning and once again escape to the sanity of nature! She spotted this gorgeous Luna Moth as we started down the trail...then, soon after, found all of the forest in the aftermath of a massive, but necessary, prescribed burn! Having driven an hour north to find a burned forest was lunacy of another kind!
The hiking areas of opportunity are dwindling, as Blakeley State Park closed temporarily yesterday, as the entrance rangers didn't feel safe interacting with the public, and of course, I get it, although I have the annual pass, and just get waved in unless I want to stop and chat ...thankfully, I do have a few remaining places to hike...for now!

I recently searched my Google photos for a cat named Buttercup and my result yielded not only the cat but some flowers I took on a trip home to visit my parents in February 2020. I looked through the rest of the photos from that visit. Benni was with us on every beach outing and I remember hearing something about this virus in China but I had more important things on my mind - like where we should go for lunch that day and watching my mom do jigsaw puzzles on the computer. I remember the woman sitting next to me on my flight home wiping every surface around her down with a Clorox wipe and thinking that seemed a bit extreme.
A lot has changed since February 2020 but the beauty of South Laguna hasn't.
For those of you with sharp eyes, that's a yellow lab in the water retrieving a ball.
