There's plenty to see dockside at Sullivan's Cove. I have previously shown you the classic vintage steam crane built in 1899 (see the link below). But there is an even older mechanical one that dates from around 1885. This one is still used by small boats to load and unload.

It all runs like clockwork. Perfect mechanical engineering, and a thing of beauty. You'll find it right near the seafood outlets along the dock.

A Clockwork Orange is a dystopian novel by English writer Anthony Burgess, published in 1962. Set in a near future English society featuring a subculture of extreme youth violence.

A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian crime film adapted, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name. It employs disturbing, violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs, and other social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian near-future Britain.

Personal note

When I first decided I was going to this series I new i would need to get some reference shots of the location just to get an idea of what gear i would use. While I was looking around the locations David showed me this gigantic intertior that he took out of a famous cathedral in downtown Toronto. I than decided this needed to be shot.

During the shoot David was very co-opertive and helped with a good deal of the it .He supplied me with a black back drop that made a huge difference and had many ideas to make the shoot more intreresting. overall very succesful im my oppinion and i'm looking forward to my next project.

technical note

In the middle of the shoot David decided to actually go in the interior of the structure wich proved to be a very good idea. I than switched to the 55-110 f4.5 Mamiya and than I had to tweak my lighting again. shooting into C1 and final post in Photoshop CS4

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?”

“Clockwork Doll”

Dalia Ravikovitch

I was a clockwork doll that night,

and I turned left and I turned right and when I fell and broke to bits they recomposed my wax and wits.

I was a proper doll once more,

my manner carefully demure;

and yet a doll of another kind

an injured twig that tendrils bind.

A bit an unusual image for my stream .... but got my hands on an old timepiece and found it a good subject for a macro.

Image based on almost 100 exposures, assembled in Zerene Stacker (Dmap & Pmax). Canon 5D mkii, EF 100mm 1:2.8L IS USM, ISO-100, f/5, 1/25s, -0.7step, tracing paper diffused ledlight. Rotated and cropped, ca. 13mm wide.

Took loads of these, decided on a high key in the end even though I mainly shot against black.

Been waiting for an opportunity to shoot these, had them as a Birthday present last month, seemed like the perfect theme!

This was originally going to be my entry in BBC#65 (a contest on BZPower) but I never finished him in time. Because I was satisfied with the areas I already built (the head, wings and upper-body) I decided to make the rest too. This is my second attempt at a clockwork MOC. My last clockwork moc (from two years ago) was a failed attempt at the genre. This MOC also shares some aspects with Leyka (a bird moc from last year) and helped to make this one.

The exposing gears on the sides of the body was done on purpose to show its inner mechanics. None of the gears can move. They are for appearance purposes only

“I sit beside the fire and think

Of all that I have seen

Of meadow flowers and butterflies

In summers that have been

Of yellow leaves and gossamer

In autumns that there were

With morning mist and silver sun

And wind upon my hair

I sit beside the fire and think

Of how the world will be

When winter comes without a spring

That I shall ever see

For still there are so many things

That I have never seen

In every wood in every spring

There is a different green

I sit beside the fire and think

Of people long ago

And people that will see a world

That I shall never know

But all the while I sit and think

Of times there were before

I listen for returning feet

And voices at the door” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
