CLmooctober keyword is: pond
This year I made several drawings of a girl and an animal. Then my wife made a poem to each drawing.
We used Kindle Self Publishing to make it into a book for our granddaughter.
The book is titled “Welterusten Jessie” (goodnight Jessie)

This is one of the drawings in the book.
#clmooctober keyword: bridges
Bridges connect. Our bridge The Crossing doesn’t connect just parts of our city across a river, it also connects now with the liberation of our city in WWII.
As the text on sign says, the new bridge (called The Crossing) is on the spot where US soldiers in rubber dinghies under heavy machine gun fire crossed the river Waal in order to secure the bridge at Nijmegen on both sides. This was during Market Garden.
Now, every evening, 365 days per year, two volunteers (often veterans) cross the bridge at dawn, when the lights on the bridge go on two by two, each light commemorating a live of a US soldier that was lost during this fight.

#fields #clmooctober
On the crossing of 4 pathways through the fields in my old village, there’s been a cross for centuries. Asking for blessings for the crops.
The roads have been used as of Roman times and some are several meters deep due to usage and rains.

In order to deal with the flooding of the lower part of the city Nijmegen, there’s now a new bypass added to the river Waal.
Increasing height of the sea level of the North Sea and the increasing occurrence of extreme rainfall made this add-on necessary.
As a bonus it’s wonderful spot to enjoy the water. Plus there’re lots of cultural activities on the new river island in the summer.

Right: old apartments for the nurses. Soon for students, after renovation.
Left: part of the med library.
Next to the sidewalk is a broad bicycle part.
Lots of roads have a separate part for cyclists in Nederland making the bicycle a fast and agile way of transportation in cities.
Between the city and the surrounding towns there are “speed cycle roads” to seduce people to take the bicycle instead of the car. Over 70% of the employees of our university hospital come to work by bicycle every day.
CLmooctober keyword: favorite tree
For many, many years this tree stood in the center of our village. Many generations enjoyed it. It took quite some craftsmanship to keep it in this form.
In the end the tree got sick and had to get cut.
