''Darkness always had its part to play. Without it, how would we know when we walked in the light?.” ― Clive Barker
Continuing on with the annual January Abstract work.
The title directly refers to my favourite book by Clive Barker, "Weaveworld" but the use of the second capital letter links it to the original personal branding that I gave to my early Pano-Sabotage work, "TumbleWorld". My art deeply bowing to what I think was Barker's greatest novel. A very special and very dangerous carpet is found to be an entry portal to all the worlds and dimensions that it "illustrates". A re-do.
Two photographs only were used in this piece, a trend I've been sticking with for a while now. Reducing my options like that pushes me to get creative and not rely always on tried and true methods.
The previous iteration of this image was removed as I felt that the piece needed to have the two original images much more integrated, or, inter-woven. I wanted not to rely on old habitual pattern overlays to "pop" the piece. So I went for a more holistic reading that I think is closer to my intentions of 'weaving' 'threads' of elements together, and it's closer to Barker's theme as well.
Two Pano-Sabotage images, one untreated or unprocessed and the other, from the same shoot in Dec 2015, much more heavily photo manipulated. This duality makes for a richer interplay.

Music Link: "Hilal", Mirror System w/ Ucef - from their album "Mirror System". Also on "The Art of Chill 3". This particular piece of music brings to mind the setting of one of the most horrifying and terrible scenes in "Weaveworld", close to the end of the book. It involves the desert and a nightmarish, avenging, monstrous angel. This music seems to convey the atmosphere of that scene before the arrival of the Angel.

My brother bought an used Hellraiser Pinhead built-up set. Pinhead was built already, but brother didn't like the paint job. He is lazy himself and so wanted my hubby to help him a little bit. It's almost done, some finishing touches.
Right after morning coffee.
Pinhead is still missing his pins but my hubby ain't going to do that.

Had a request for a Damselfly Halloween offering from one of my contacts (Aisling you know who you are)and here it is, ever so very slightly inspired by the film "Hellraiser", which in my view is one of the finest horror films ever, it features a degree of symmetry as it is featured in the order of the Cenobites, promise this is my last Halloween offering :)
Took me ages to do this LOL :) A combination of Paintshop Pro X3, GNU Image Manipulation Program and Picknik :)
Aisling you had better like this one :)
"To every hour, its mystery. At dawn, the riddles of life and light. At noon, the conundrums of solidity. At three, in the hum and heat of the day, a phantom moon, already high. At dusk, memory. And at midnight? Oh, then the enigma of time itself; of a day that will never come again passing into history while we sleep.”—Clive Barker
This British supernatural horror film written and directed by Clive Barker is based on his 1986 novella “The Hellbound Heart.” It involves a mystical puzzle box which summons the Cenobites, a group of extradimensional sadomasochistic beings who cannot differentiate between pain and pleasure. The Cenobite leader is portrayed by Doug Bradley.

to me, one of the most dangerous things you could possibly do is open the Hellraiser puzzle box and bring forth the cenobites: demons to some, angels to others
Hellraiser has always been one of my favorite horror movies–and as some of you might know pinhead is actually my stand-in when i setup lighting so you are fully aware of my affinity for this movie

Danny enjoyed group more than he expected. Talking about his father, about the Overlook, it was different when the people listening had gone through similar shit, instead of shrinks. Hearing the stories of others also helped cut through the isolation he’d felt for years.
One girl had a brother who went on a dozen murder sprees, and couldn’t be killed. Two guys both had a dead serial killer stalk them in their dreams, just because they lived on the same street. A woman’s sister was possessed by a zuni fetish doll. One guy accidentally adopted the anti-christ. And half the group had survived severe hauntings of one kind or another; houses, toy dolls, you name it.
But there was one girl, Kirsty, that Danny really connected with, probably because she lost her dad, too. Her step-mom’s ex lover escaped from hell, and hid from demons by killing her dad and wearing his skin like a suit. Totally fucked up. But between strange shit like demonic puzzle boxes and evil ghost twins, they had a lot in common, and recently started dating.
Friday was going to be their first sleepover date, and Danny was pretty sure Kirsty was ready to go all the way, a big step for both of them. They were going camping all weekend, with some friends at a cabin in the woods.
When I finished working on this image of the nose and front wheel-well of the B1-B Bomber, it looked to me like a head & shoulders (and gaping mouth) of a Clive Barker HELLRAISER character! Or maybe a Todd McFarlane SPAWN creation.

Returning to Elfia Haarzuilens after more than a decade of absence was literally a last minute decision based on the weather forecast (like: deciding on Friday afternoon to go on Saturday), but thanks to a very dear friend it was possible & it was a blast.
