The theme for last month's BoA photography group was 'Climate Change'. It was a struggle to come up with something creative until I spotted my son's globe soft ball.
This took about 5 minutes to set up, some double sided sticky tape, a flame effect fire, low ISO and a steady hand.
Ethiopia can be divided into zones according to altitude and precipitation. Addis Ababa has an annual rainfall of 1 270 mm, and the amount might be somewhat higher for Entoto.
The precipitation together with the altitude range of 2 600 to 3 100, defines the site to the agro-climatic zone Moist Dega, the natural vegetation being Afro-montane forest-woodland, indicated by Juniperus, Hagenia and Podocarpus trees (Bekele-Tesemma 1993).
There are two rainy seasons per year, the small rains from March to May and the big rains from July to September. The highest rain intensity occurs in July and August (Demissew 1988).
The average temperature in Addis Ababa is 16.3°C, but with the temperature falling with an increasing altitude, the average temperature on the top of the park can be estimated to be about 12°C.
As the wind can also be strong, the climate can be quite harsh, especially during the rains and in the higher parts.
Water: It is essential that there is water available all year round. Most of the brooks dry out sometime during a year. There are, however, a few springs within the park area, providing water for all seasons.

Adventure History
"Entoto's climate during the rainy season was moreover far from pleasant, for it suffered from many storms. A French traveller, Jules Borelli, states that it was a place of much lightning, thunder and fog, while his compatriot, Charles Michel remarked that, ''exposed to the wind, difficult of access, and without drinking water'' (Ibid, p.103).
(Håkan Blanck and Pia Englund, Entoto Natural Park 1995).
The photograph with the Waterfall
The outlet for the waterfall and its abyss is just some metres behind and opposite the camera view of the picture. However, this concealed rock vault is both a staggering cosy and mysteriously hidden place and people with sensitivity for heights should not climb into this mountain vault without being double secured with harnesses and other equipment.
These photos of water-filled streams and cascading waterfalls are all shot just above Bees' Cliff (14) at Entoto's southern highland plateau - from early October to the beginning of November.
It has at the time for all of these active water sports photographs passed about one to two months since the long rain season ended.
Despite the period passed from these photos opportunities and the previous rains are over a month, it is still a great asset of bath and fresh spring water flow on the higher ground of Entoto. But maybe for those some hilarious adventures, it would have been even more suitable if they had occurred a month earlier and thus offered an even more pleasant spontaneous bath activities.
** CAUTION
Although this remarkable rock vault and bath is the most entertaining of wild places, it is nevertheless a directly fatal place during rainy seasons, without any possibility of a positive outcome.

Something very odd happened in the world over the past few years!
This is concerning Global Warming and yes, the Kyoto Protocol and subsequent events we see happening today.
The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), aimed at fighting global warming. The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving the "stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. The Protocol was initially adopted on 11 December 1997 in Kyoto, Japan, and entered into force on 16 February 2005. As of September 2011, 191 states have signed and ratified the protocol. The only remaining signatory not to have ratified theprotocol is the United States. Other United Nations member states which did not ratify the protocol are Afghanistan, Andorra and South Sudan. In December 2011, Canada renounced the Protocol.
What is very odd about this?
For many years the USA has refused to sign in the Protocol because they say if China does not do anything to reduce its emissions than we will not do it either.
They said at the time that China would become "the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases". Perhaps we should qualify here those in the USA who truly believe that not doing anything positive to protect the planet and its living inhabitants is the right thing to do. They are the people who believe Republican values are best for the world. The Republican Party and its membership have consistently refused to sign in the Protocol because of that reason. It is like saying if you are bad than I can be as bad as you are. If you are not responsible people why should we!
But China has taken responsibility by manufacturing wind turbines for the world and cars that are completely pollution free.
You would think the USA would react positively and invest in a big way into environmentally friendly projects but think again. Not only does the USA not doing what is right but they are investing in getting tar sands oil by pipeline from Alberta (Canada) to the USA. Although the TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline project has been put temporarily on the back burner, it is only a matter of time before the dirty tar sands oil makes its to the USA.
Republicans in the US are not the only people with their mind set at destroying the planet and polluting all life on Earth. Conservatives in Canada are at least as bad if not much worst people. Prime Minister of Canada and leader of the Conservative Party, Stephen Harper, gets to be crown as the biggest fighter for keeping the tar sands oil flowing to wherever it can, especially into the USA and, oddly enough, to China.
A short time ago the PM made a special trip to China to sell its dirty tar sands oil to the Chinese people so they can use the oil for manufacturing more products to be sold back to the Canadians. The dirty tar sands oil is a very special kind of heavy oil which can also be used to manufacture products for the Chinese war industry. The Canadian manufacturing industry is being gradually dismantled by the Conservatives here in Canada. So we are better stay good friends with China. It is like giving North Korea or Iran a blue print to make nuclear weapons and actually supplying them with fissile fuel materials for nuclear weapons such as uranium-235 and plutonium-239.
Republican and Conservative values are the same. Money! Money is all that counts! Dont use your brain for anything else just sell the resources and get pay. If that blows up the world it is the world fault they say .
So much for future generations! Well, if we let Republicans and Conservatives have their way, they will not have a future!
What is odd about all this? I am coming to that!
For many years Republicans and Conservatives were saying why should we sign in the Kyoto Protocol when China is not committed to reduce its emissions. But now both the USA and Canada are going out of their ways to use the tar sands oil. Canada is letting a Chinese corporation in Canada to build a pipeline to carry the dirty oil to the Canadian West Coast and from there ship it to China. It is like selling and carrying the pollution to China. Whether greenhouse gas emissions are emitted in Canada or in China is no longer relevant. My guess is that the PM of Canada wants to make sure China can be truly called the biggest polluter on the planet. But no! It is truly all about money!

This is what happens when leaders are not true leaders but selfish opportunists.
The 1% of the people gets much wealthier, safe and secure by mercenaries and governments they subsidize.
The other 99% of the people lose their jobs, suffer poverty and misery.
The tar sands oil is produced, transported across land and oceans, processed, and its by-products used to fabricate war products for more destruction around the world, and thus more dirty oil is needed to reconstruct communities and, once more, destruction occurs. It is an ever lasting cycle of violence, destruction, pollution, war and civil unrests. All of that because the CEOs of oil and gas corporations and their sharholders want more money and power over the 99% of the people.
And when all the dirty oil is used up, our atmosphere, the air we breathe, our oceans and soils, and the ecology of our planet, Earth, will be gone forever.
This will happen this century, soon.
And here what will happen to the air after all the tar sands oil has been used up:
chaos.
This is what we observe in the air above today. Greenhouse gases alone are as high as 390 parts per million.
If we continue to allow further tar sands oil development and production in Alberta, the following chemical emissions will continue to increase beyond repairs.
Those gas emissions from the tar sands oil eventually reach the global stage and pollute all life on the planet. Emissions affect every person on Earth.
Global warming is very real and already causing terrible disasters worldwide.
Parts per million in 2012: 390 ppm
Global warming is causing devastating climate change happening right now:
rising sea levels, droughts, floods, heat waves, forest fires, species extinction.
Parts per million after all Tar Sands oil has been used: 600 ppm
which would mean the end of civilization and of most life species on Earth.
Stop tar sands oil development.
Save the coming generations, the Global Community.
I am Soullife, God's Spirit.
What will happen when all the tar sands oil has been used up?
What will happen?
All life species on the planet will be dangerously affected and most will be extinct, including all civilizations.
Tar sands oil will make life species extinct along with most civilizations on the planet.
What will the planet be whitout civilizations?
Make life on the planet a good place to be.
Life is not a rose garden but it can be good for everyone.
Life over the entire Universe is my message to you.
Life is my way to communicate with you, and you with me.
Life is the global common amongst all galaxies.
What have you done to life on the planet?
What have you done to your civilizations?
What will you do to make things better?
Make Global Community values your values. Fear not!

National Hockey League, NHL
"Climate Pledge Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is located north of Downtown Seattle in the 74-acre (30 ha) entertainment complex known as Seattle Center, the site of the 1962 World's Fair, for which it was originally developed. After opening in 1962, it was subsequently bought and converted by the city of Seattle for entertainment purposes. From 2018 to 2021, the arena underwent a $1.15 billion redevelopment; the renovation preserved the original exterior and roof, which was declared a Seattle Landmark in 2017 and was listed on the Washington Heritage Register as well as the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. The renovated venue has a capacity of 17,151 for ice hockey and 18,300 for basketball.
The arena is currently the home to the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the Seattle University Redhawks men's basketball team, and the Rat City Roller Derby league of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association." - Wikipedia

If you give a man a goat, is he more able to adapt to climate change?
My answer is yes! In Bangladesh, people are faced with multiple annual disasters. Climate change is increasing the risks from these disasters - by making them more frequent or intense - and people are struggling to cope with even current hazards. The main way that these disasters (floods in the case of this community) affect the people is not through loss of life, though that is common. It is through loss of livelihood - people's crops, fields and possessions are destroyed by floods each year, leaving them with little choice but to take loans to buy food, and trapping them in a cycle of poverty.
One way to lower this impact is to diversify their livelihoods - if a family lives on income from their crops, and those crops get destroyed, they are greatly impacted. But if they get their income from a number of different sources, not all of their income will be lost when a flood strikes. So, give them a goat and they can get milk, sell the kids, or sell it for meat. A goat is easier to carry to high ground than a whole field of rice.
As climate change increases risk, so diversifying livelihoods decreases it. To adapt to a more dangerous future, decreasing risk now is vital.

A solar water heater is located in the house of Mariela Ojeda, leader of the Colonial Sports Club. Territorial integration is a fundamental pillar of the company. They are integrated into the territory respecting the environment and the communities surrounding the wind farms, and work together with the community to develop projects that improve their quality of life and promote local development.
The Aurora Wind Farm is one of the largest in Chile and the largest of its kind operating in the region. It comprises 43 wind turbines, with an installed capacity of 129 MW. The operation of this wind farm generates energy capable of supplying 195 thousand homes, which is equivalent to the total number of homes in the regions of Los Ríos and Aysén. In addition, its operation avoids the annual emission of 134 thousand tons of CO2, which translates into the removal of approximately 111 thousand cars from circulation.
