"Who would imagine there’s an authentic Chinese tea house hugging the Cliff Walk in Newport? Behind the incredible Marble House, at the bottom of its sloping lawn stands this little treasure with incredible views of the Atlantic. Marble House is a gilded era mansion built between 1888 and 1892 and was the summer cottage of Alva and William Vanderbilt. It cost approximately 11 million dollars to build, and it was given to Alva by her husband on her 39th birthday.

After they divorced, she married Oliver H.P. Belmont and became Alva Belmont. She is known as an ardent crusader for women’s equality and gave thousands of dollars to the National Women’s Party to advance women’s rights. After her second husband’s death in 1908, she re-opened Marble House and had the Chinese Tea House built on the cliffs. It was here that she held her rallies for women’s right to vote."

Here’s a look at a stunning Rhode Island hidden gem with an interesting past.

Tom and I hiked the entire Cliff Walk yesterday in Newport, Rhode Island. The walk is 3.5 miles long but the last two miles of the walk is difficult as you are walking on boulders and some areas are pointed lending itself to being very difficult to find footing. Plus it was dusk but we made it! It was so dark when I took this shot, I could barely see the horizon. My lens was open four minutes and I used my Richo GR plus an eight inch tall tripod. Very convenient!

A circular walk starting in the village of Kingston, walking along the Erme estuary and along the SW Coast Path

It's about a 5 mile hike out to hags head from the visitor center on the Cliffs of Moher, you'll see great views all the way. All you'll need is comfortable shoes and time and then you'll get shots like this.

Wishing you all a fabulous Friday. :-)

Some of the stunning scenic walks to be had in South Wales

Despite my advancing years and living in the south of England I'd never visited Beachy head or seen the famous lighthouse so here is the often photographed lighthouse nestling agianst the chalk cliffs of East Sussex.

The last traditional rock tower offshore lighthouse built by Trinity House in 1902.

The cliff walk around Ardmore Head takes about an hour to do the loop around the headland and back into the village. After leaving the serene St. Declan's well and hemitage you'll see a wrecked crane from a ship that's now popular with divers, two old lookout posts, an abandoned coast guard station and Fr. O'Donnell's well. Just a few of the sights along the trail plus the beautiful views of Ardmore Bay and along the coast to Youghal and Knockadoon in County Cork. It's a nice way to spend an hour.

I hope you're enjoying the images from my latest trip to Ireland. I'm trying to keep them in order, like a travel blog to give you a sense of taking the trip with me.

Thank you all for your kind comments and favs. Have a terrific Thursday everyone. :-)))

About. Appreciate nature from three breathtaking perspectives - Capilano Suspension Bridge, Treetops Adventure and the exciting new Cliffwalk. The 450 ft (137m) long, 230 ft (70m) high Capilano Suspension Bridge has thrilled visitors since 1889.

Marginal Way Cliff Walk in Ogunquit, Maine with the Cliff House in the background

This path along the ocean in Ogunquit, Maine is called the Marginal Way. This resting spot is near some large hotels and there were a few other people out watching the sunset and climbing on the rocks. (from fall 2011)

Happy weekend everyone!

I took this photo of the setting sun behind this nice-looking tree at the Cliff Walk section of the Changi Boardwalk. Three-composite HDR, from a single RAW file.

On the peninsula Howth Head east of Dublin. Really beautyful hiking route around the city of Howth along the shore and cliffs. Easy to reach by bus or train.

I went to shoot the sunrise,an ended up with the moon.

Cliffwalk follows a granite precipice along Capilano River with a labyrinth-like series of narrow cantilevered bridges, stairs and platforms. With only 16 anchor points in the cliff supporting the structure, the Cliffwalk is both environmentally sensitive and adrenaline pumping!

One will never miss this when walking through the Cliff Walk stretch of the Changi Boardwalk. The rocky outcroppings with that one prominent boulder is a favorite spot for pre-nup shoots. While waiting for my friends during our Kelong Walk/Sunset Walk shoot, I managed to capture a few shots here. Too bad, the sky was rather downcast.

I was glad to see these people out on a rock this morning, so I could use them for scale when I shot some breaking wave pictures.

I noticed that one of them pulled a camera out of his pocket and inched forward to get 'the perfect shot'. I was too worried about getting salt spray on my camera to go out that far.

Nice moment : Family walking on New Year's Eve. It was so windy & cold. Storm Frank continues to exert its force to New year 2016.

Only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver, allow 2 - 3 hours for your visit to Vancouver's iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge, hanging 450 feet (137m) across and 230 feet (70m) above Capilano River. The park offers more than just the bridge. Its surrounding 27 acres celebrate nature, history and culture in unique and thrilling ways. No more so than with the newest attraction, CLIFFWALK. Cliffwalk hangs for 213m (700ft) and reaches 91m (300ft) high, hugging the granite cliffside and offering a panoramic view of the thriving rainforest and canyon far below. On Treetops Adventure venture from one magnificent old growth Douglas-fir to another on a series of seven elevated suspension bridges, reaching as high as 110 feet (33m), for a squirrel's eye view of the forest. Guides, signage and interactive exhibits throughout the park help you in your understanding of rainforest ecosystems and their sustainability.

When you go to the Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge and it's foggy and raining and you forgot your tripod and you don't want to bother fiddling with different settings much because it's raining and you're continually switching on and off the auto-focus for bokeh shots and you're forgetting half the time that it's on manual and even the auto-focus is slightly off-kilter anyway and you can't get your old-man glasses out of your backpack for a good check of the focus because it's raining and did I also mention that it was raining?

But hey, we got there so early there was almost no one there and we got to hang out on the Cliffwalk for an unbelievable SIX full minutes without seeing a single other person and having to rush out of the way. And the lights are really pretty and the folks at Cap Bridge are really nice and there were free cookies and we had a lovely evening.
