Two Swiss aircraft wait for takeoff clearance at the beginning of the runway at Zurich Airport....where will the journey go? Presumably long-haul flights overseas.

in the 20 odd years I've lived in Birmingham this is a view I've never seen due to the forest which has occupied this area. Clearance work has revealed Aston Church Road over bridge viewed from the A47 Heartlands Parkway, the bridge will be demolished and a fresh one constructed on the cleared area and it's all due to HS2. 66523 rumbles by with 4O29 Crewe Basford Hall to Southampton. Thanks to Ste B for the heads up on the clearance work.

The Tromsø Bridge (Norwegian: Tromsøbrua) is a cantilever road bridge in the city of Tromsø which is located in Tromsø Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It crosses the Tromsøysundet strait between Tromsdalen on the mainland and the island of Tromsøya. The 1,036-metre-long (3,399 ft) bridge has 58 spans, of which the longest is 80 metres (260 ft) with a maximum clearance to the sea of 38 metres (125 ft).

Construction began in 1958 and the bridge was opened in 1960. At the time of its opening, it was the longest bridge in Northern Europe, with a length of 1,036 metres (3,399 ft). At a cost of 14.5 million kr, the bridge replaced an inefficient ferry connection between the two sides of the strait, and it helped boost the growth and development of Tromsø. Due to severe congestion issues, the mainland road connection was later reinforced by the construction of the Tromsøysund Tunnel in the 1990s. Unlike the tunnel, located almost 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) further north, the Tromsø Bridge leads directly to the city centre of Tromsø.

The Tromsø Bridge was the first cantilever bridge to be built in Norway. Since then, many bridges of this type have been built. The bridge is one of the most important landmarks of Tromsø, and forms part of a motif composed of the Arctic Cathedral, the Tromsdalstinden Mountain, and the Tromsø Bridge. In 2000, the Directorate for Cultural Heritage protected the bridge against modifications. In 2005, the fencing was raised by two and a half meters, and seven years later, Norway's road authority planned on adding extra fencing onto many bridges to help prevent suicide.

After getting clearance to cross the Mississippi River, KCS VNKC rolls across the bridge with a pair of SD70MACs for power. The passing clouds made it very difficult as they came at the worst possible time.

To celebrate Anja has (been) volunteered to take a photo of Baghead and some of the Toyville crew down at his local, The Clearance Bin Bar.

Bough Beech (Roy Coles Scrape) - Just the one visit to the perches in front of the hide (good to see some weed clearance had been done below the perches) Also a couple of sightings of a Water Rail, but I was too slow.

Able Seaman Clearance Diver Jackson Sharp (foreground) and Seaman Clearance Diver Jarryd Collins take aim in the firing bay at Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney, during a simulated attack, where the Royal Australian Navy Divers are undergoing Army’s Infantry Initial Employment Training Mod. 2 Course.

Mid Caption: Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers will be completing a basic infantry course at Holsworthy Barracks. It will be available for all levels and ranks, this role demands high standards of mental and physical toughness, esprit de corps, battle craft and determination from soldiers and now the Navy. This training will aid Navy Clearance Divers deploying to the field to conduct their primary missions of Mine Counter Measures, Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal.

After getting clearance from the CSX Pan Am District 1 dispatcher NHN train DOBO, or L065 under CSX, speeds past the B&M Rockingham Station. The Rockingham Station was built in 1891 and is currently under restoration.

Following our chase of the NHN south in the afternoon, we made our way to a local brewery for dinner and planned our next move. After months of my friends nagging me to buy flashes, I finally pulled the trigger before this week-long New England trip. We heard that the NHN would have a 2000 crew to head down to Boston, and decided to make our way here to set up for the shot. Just after we arrived DOBO got the signal, and one hurried setup later this is what I captured.

A northbound D&H train ducks under the famed former Erie Starrucca viaduct. A tunnel clearance improvement project in the works caused a few weeks of additional trains on this route; when that work was complete, this line became redundant. The track was lifted not long after this September 1985 photo.

Whilst on the subject of local shots, recent tree clearance between Derby & Wingfield continues to open up several 'long lost' locations......

This is the BRC’s 1500TR train from BRC Clearing Yard to South Chicago awaiting a signal at 67th Street. The South Chicago job had to wait quite awhile for the outbound NS 16G to depart and get out of the way. I particularly enjoy that ex SP low headlight 40-2 in charge!

My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. The Isaac Walton Hotel (appearing out of the fog, with Ilam Hall (above and to the right) also starting to emerge.

Oddly both buildings date back to the early half of the 19th century; Ilam Hall has been partially demolished over the years whilst the hotel has been unsympathetically extended during the same period. The hotel was up for sale last year for about £2.5 million. During its prime it owned fishing rights for portions of both the Dove and Manifold rivers

CN has replaced all the old former North Western Dash 8s with AC44C6Ms rebuilds on Iron Range ore trains. Here we see U790 rolling through the off road park near Gilbert. Also the newest ore cars built in 2024 are assigned out of Two Harbors with one train set currently set up in Distrbutive Power mode that loads at Minntac East. The other trains will continue to operate conventionally until clearance modifications are done at the mine loading pockets to accommodate a locomotive on the end.

After the engines had been in the ring on Saturday 13th August 2023 at Astle Park rally the sun went into thick cloud but I decided to stay as I could see a clearance , I was well rewarded with stunning summers evening light. Photos as most people had left

After obtaining clearance in advance from the station manager, a small group spent the night of 24th/25th April 1981 on York station. It was a cold and stormy night, perhaps typical for the time of year, but certainly not lacking traffic. We expected things to quieten down after 2am, just after the departure of Class 25 No. 25198 on a northbound parcels, but the level of activity did not subside for another three hours. On the left, 6660 YDM4 awaits clearance while towing the JND-DVA Passenger, while 6338 YDM4 is preparing to decouple and perform a reversal with the AE-JND Passenger.

Recent tree clearance at Water Orton has opened up a couple of new angles, having had a quick look and 6X45 being given the road ahead of our intended quarry, 7X08, and running fast line I thought I would give this shot a try as the Toton to Bescot working is always a 66. Some frantic waving from Rob on the bridge and a muffled cry of 57's gave me a moment of confusion. With 'did he say 57's?' running through my head 57002 & 57007 appeared from under the footbridge and I was committed to the shot. This being a DB working we were both wondering how the DRS locos had made it onto the service. Answers on a postcard please!

Early on in the COVER OF NIGHT series, I shot a couple gas stations. They were not initially the type scene I was looking to capture, but when I came across one late at night, bright and isolated in the darkness, it was impossible for me to resist, so I continue to shoot them. I have now shot enough that they have become a series-within-the-series. For a look at them as a collection, check out, Gas Stations

Arriving back in Macau late Wednesday I was expecting to see damage from Typhoon Hato. Reports of damage and death were worrying. But in my neighbourhood little or no signs of the storm.

This afternoon - Friday - I walked down to the waterfront at "Seaside" by the Financial District. Boarded windows were common place still - with piles of glass and debris everywhere.

This photo view is totally new to me. It was previously blocked by fencing that was just torn to shreds and dumped on what I presume is a very valuable speculative development hold. The plus side is that the missing fencing allows the only shot from any of the 4 sides of The Grand Lisboa that fits the whole building in frame from a dramatic low angle.

66602 Rumbles along the Birmingham to Derby line at Castle Bromwich passing the closed Manor Farm pub with 6M91 Theale to Hope discharged cement. Further tree clearance has very much opened up the shot here although the land is now up for sale with industrial units being touted as the likely use.

I spied this display of Guy Fawkes' masks set up for sale in the clearance corner at the Party City store in Willets Point. They look like they're getting ready to revolt. The orange sign underneath is confusing, because there is a very common misuse of the phrase "In lieu of," which actually means "instead of," but the writer probably thought meant "because of." Enough cause for a grammar revolt! -- May 5, 2021
