The facility operated from 1969 until 2001 when it went into bankruptcy and was sealed by the Illinois EPA as a result of hazardous materials left on site. It became a federal Superfund site in March 2010.

The City of Eugene 's Parks and Open Spaces Ludwigia hexapetala pull and cleanup in Delta Ponds. This particular species of Ludwigia is from Central America and is invasive in the Delta Ponds area.

Initially, after the storm, the visible damage came int eh form of downed trees, boats and cars that floated away, and lots of wood debris from the bay washed inland. Now, as people pull everything that was destroyed out of their homes and pile them by the street, every block is filled with what will end up in landfills. Now you can see how much damage it did that you couldn't see before.
