Cattle Egret
Cattle Egrets are native to Africa but somehow reached northeastern South America in 1877. They continued to spread, arriving in the United States in 1941 and nesting there by 1953. In the next 50 years they became one of the most abundant of the North American herons, showing up as far north as Alaska and Newfoundland.

I open our "Breakfast Club For Birds" at 8am with nice soft peanut butter (smooth) and top it up at noon with seeds, nuts and crushed fat balls .
High Tea is at 3pm in the winter.. with sunflower hearts and crunchy peanut butter, to help them through the cold nights.
This is our "Cleaner" arriving at 3:30 to mop up the left-overs. the last rays of the days sunshine just twinkling in his eye.
All this happens in my back garden in Felling… My Wife. Cheryl calls it “The Connor Hilton”. I think it’s better than that.
After 70 years of chasing them through fields and woodland I now do it the easy way, make them come to me and hang out of the bathroom window.

I’ve always liked this sign in the Midtown area of San Jose. I pass it often on the way to a favorite taqueria. Well, I used to pass it often. The sign was recently taken down, prompting local preservationists to renew the discussion of how to save signs like this from disappearing from public view.
And no, I don't smoke pipes 😉. Half a length of pipe cleaner from my Granddaughter's stash of craft materials.
