This is a German-built, circa 1966-‘70 Ford Taunus 12M, 4-Door, 4-5-Passenger Saloon, [P6]; (I’m going with 1967 as the model year because this looks like an early model) spotted in the harbour town of Argostoli, the largest town/city on the Greek island of Kefalonia.

This old Ford is quite a well-known car in Agostoli; it has often been photographed by tourists and records of the car exist elsewhere online. The car used to be found parked just off a main shopping precinct, in a plaza/square, in front of shops and behind a large bank. It has since been moved onto this main street, parked up like a true “Curbside Classic”.

I first saw this Taunus about a decade ago, parked in the town square. Back then, the car was in practically perfect condition, looking like it’d been freshly restored. Since then, however, the car is in a tad less-than-pristine condition; the paintwork has slightly dulled, there are a few small dents/chips in the bodywork, and some bits of chrome script at the rear are missing. Despite this, the car is far from what anyone could describe as poor condition - it is still a very clean, solid-and-straight, and mostly complete example which is taken care of. In fact, the car is in better condition than the last time I saw it; a small dent on the rear-quarter panel has since been repaired.

The car has a modern Greek/E.U. Registration plate; “6056” (previously “KEB 1945”), W/ what looks to be a “Historical” vehicle classification icon on the plate. This car would’ve likely been assembled at the Ford plant in Cologne, Germany, although I am not sure if it was an original specified Greek market export model or not. The chrome “FORD” lettering script on the bonnet is non-typical for a mainstream Taunus of this generation, although I have seen Italian export models with this style of script.

This Ford Taunus is one of a handful of other German-built Fords I have seen on the island of Kefalonia throughout my many visits here; between the towns of Katellios and Skala there is a dark green circa 1973/‘74 Taunus TC “Fastback” Coupe sitting in a goat pasture, which I also have pictures of. These Taunus models are often mistaken by tourists (especially Brits) as Cortinas.

Front-quarter offside view of a lovely 1957 Hillman Minx Series 1 Deluxe Edition 4-Door, 4/5-Passenger Saloon, 1,390-CC engine, very nice condition all around, finished in light blue W/ cream roof (probably resprayed). Nottingham-area March/April 1957 black plate six-character registration; “YTO 316”.

This vehicle was spotted in the yard outside the famous Mathewson’s classic car auction and sales showroom, Pickering, Ryedale, North Yorkshire, U.K., October 2021.

Front-quarter Offside view of a lovely British-built 1960 Vauxhall Victor Series II 4-Door, 4-5-Passenger Saloon, [F]; This two-tone paint scheme looks to be “Vauxhall Banff Blue” over “Silver Grey Metallic” – W/ matching blue vinyl interior, complete W/ period aftermarket luggage rack and vintage AA/RAC badges. The original six-character registration black/silver plate – “609 PPA” is a Surrey registration of April 1960. The car would’ve been built at the former Vauxhall plant in Luton, Bedfordshire.

This was GM’s attempt at a “miniature 1955-‘57 Chevy” for the U.K. – notice the abundance of chrome trim, slight “wraparound” windscreen, luxurious interior W/ 3-Spd column-change transmission, whitewall tires, vibrant colours, and the tailfins – of which, the taillight housing bears a slight – albeit much smaller resemblance to those of a 1958 Oldsmobile.

A first-generation British-built Ford Anglia [E04A] 2-door, 4-passenger saloon, in wonderful overall condition, fitted w/ authentic six-character, London-area October 1946 black plate registration; “MMT 493”. Painted in typical black paint of the era. This particular car is intriguing as it is a remarkably well-preserved example of the first series of “sit-up-and-beg” Anglias - the E04A series, which - although quite a common car when new in postwar Britain, is indeed a very, very rare sight nowadays. The later E494A, 100E, 105E/106E/123E and Prefects are generally much more frequent sights at most car shows, but not the E04A. This example has some old black-and-white photographs displayed in the window of a very similar car which would’ve been from the owner’s personal family album. Another nice period-authentic touch is the original ‘Tops’ petroleum pump head globe prop in front of the car. Spotted at Malton agricultural show 2024.

Car cleaning day, a photo worthy event :), but then anything and everything has become photo worthy in this 365 project!

Rear-quarter nearside view of a lovely 1960 Vauxhall Cresta MKII “PA”-Series 4-Door, 6-Passenger Saloon, which has an original 2.3-Litre, 2,600-CC, 158.6-CID overhead-valve inline-6-cyclinder engine W/ column-mounted 3-speed manual transmission. The original two-tone colour scheme of this car is known as “Sea Foam Grey over Deep Burgundy”. The six-character black plate is an original Bristol-area registration from around June 1960; “825 JHW”.

The grey vehicle to the right of the Cresta is a 1961 Austin A35 Panel Van. The green car in front of the Cresta is a 1969 Singer Chamois. The modern red car to the left of the Cresta is a 2007 Bentley Continental GTC Auto Convertible.

Rear-quarter offside view of a very well-kept 1964 Ford Consul Cortina Super 1600 MK1 4-Door, 5-Passenger Saloon. This example is fitted W/ an original 1,500-CC, 1.5-Litre, 91.5-CID “Kent” inline-4-cylinder engine, plus a somewhat rare optional 3-speed automatic transmission. There is a good deal of history and documentation about this car listed online, according to which - this Cortina is unique in that it has original period aftermarket inertia seatbelts, which were fitted as third-party safety features when the car was new. The “No Hand Signals” signage on the boot/trunk was installed by the first owner – who was said to have had an arm disability, hence another reason why this car was ordered as an automatic. The car is painted in “Ermine White”, the five-character black plate registration – “73 HTR” is an April 1964 combination from the Southampton area, where this car was sold new.

Rear view of a 1962 American Motors (AMC) Rambler American Custom 5-Door, 5-6-Passenger Station Wagon, [6208-2]. One of approximately 8,998 ‘Custom’ wagons built, out of an overall 27,268 ‘American’ series of 3-and-5-door station wagons built by AMC (formally Nash-Kelvinator), for 1962.

Judging by the chrome dealer badge on the rear, this car was sold new at Cline Motors Inc., a long defunct AMC dealership in Shelby, North Carolina, presumably the car was assembled in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The car was treated to a superb restoration in the states, before being imported to the UK in 2008, with period black plate registration; “530 XUK”. Fitted w/ aftermarket “Rocket Strike” alloys, window stickers, retrofit seat belts, vintage metal AA + RAC grille badges, plus a few components which may have been dealer options (such as the window surround visors + chrome roof rack). The car still has its original 3.2-litre flathead 6-cylinder mated to a 3-speed auto. A very rare car in the UK, and an increasingly rare car in the states, too.

This car was one of the vehicles in attendance at the annual ‘Race The Waves’ pre-show event in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. However, the car was parked just over the road, a stone’s throw from the main car gathering. Technically still a discreet “car show spot”, but also one which can easily pass for a nice “found down on the street”, “Curbside Classic” find! - In fact, this classic ‘Surf Wagon’ stands out so much nicer in this suburban setting, gleaming bright amongst all the other modern day plastic vehicles. P.S. - shoutout to Paul Niedermeyer, Rich Baron and the rest of the very passionate writers at the CC website, and a big THANK YOU for featuring some of my car spots and findings in the past! - L.S.

A lovely 1958 Vauxhall Victor Deluxe Series 1, [F], painted in “Vauxhall Coronado Yellow”, w/ six-character black plate 1958 Cambridgeshire registration; “TVE 633”. Spotted at the annual Malton agricultural show, Ryedale, U.K. I had seen this car just a few days prior one morning while driving the lorry near Fimber, in the Driffield area nearby and recognised it immediately. Gave the owner the usual flash + thumbs-up!

Nearside front-quarter view of a 1966 Ford Mustang Hardtop Coupe [65A] Shelby GT350 Clone/Tribute Car - “TRX 385D”.

This is a fully-rebuilt custom Hot Rod special which (according to supplied paperwork) originally started out as a 1935 Ford Roadster (build date 04-01-35), was rebuilt/customised by Dan Slayton of Bakersfield, California between 1984-’86, and was later shipped to the U.K. in 2005, where it was later transformed into a circa 1928/’29 Model A Roadster bodied-build (fitted W/ a chromed Model A windscreen surround, plus custom fibreglass body built in Yorkshire, U.K.), featuring a custom-built grille, chromed inserts, petrol tank and retrofit frame steels all cast in the style of a 1932 Ford. The car was fitted W/ full classic MoPar running gear, such as a retrofit 5.3-Litre 318-CID Chrysler LA engine originally from a 1969 Plymouth police cruiser, including a rebuilt TorqueFlite “Street Racer” automatic transmission W/ 8” Gennie Nostalgia shifter, and an 8.25:1 live rear axle differential ratio from a 1976 Plymouth Volare.

The car also features a custom-built full steel floor, custom smooth steelie wheels + whitewalls, custom-fitted Pete-&-Jakes front axle I-beam, chromed hairpin + dampers, Buick-finned front drum brakes, Plymouth-finned rear drum brakes, Posie springs, the steering column + wheel from a Triumph, and a modified bench seat from a Hillman Minx, plus lots of other new components and custom-fitted equipment. Full Kustom gray respray, black/grey interior.

The car is fitted with an age-related six-character black plate registration; “468 UXK”, which matches a 1957 London plate.
