Appliqué Umbrella Card by May Park

I started by hand-drawing an umbrella on a scrap paper. Then I cut the image into pieces along the lines, and used them as a template to guide how I cut the fabric. After cutting them, I glued the fabric pieces onto cardstock to make the umbrella shape. This added layer helped my card base and fabric to protect from tearing by sewing needle. I did matting the extra fabric under the cardstock to protect the paper.

I used several kinds of fabric for the ferrule, canopy, and crook handle. I chose the colors and patterns for the canopy to reflect my feelings about rain. The embroidery floss for the shaft of the umbrella was held with one single stitch. After I finished the appliqué, I added some enamel dots over the umbrella to represent raindrops. Then I stamped the sentiment along one side of the umbrella to look like rain flowing down the canopy.

Tried to do the white on white thing with this card (SSSflickrchallenge) but man, that's tough for me!! I'm going to give it another shot trying to use LESS color. SSS tall flowers die colored with Stabilo pens.
