Project Eighty-Five | Day 36/ 85
This weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph our youth group from church doing several service projects throughout the city.
One of the projects involved the youth hosting a bingo game at a local assisted living home. Just before leaving I noticed this wonderful lady working on a puzzle with a friend. I politely asked if she would mind if I took her photograph and she gladly obliged. What a sweetheart!
What struck me about this kind lady is her beauty and elegance. Since we were shooting all over the city (and ridiculously short on time ... my own fault) I'm ashamed to admit I didn't stop and just talk with her. Something that I always try to do. I really like this photograph for many reasons but the most is that it will give me the opportunity to return to that assisted living home this week and share this with her. More importantly, I'm hopeful I will have the opportunity to sit with her and learn a little more about her life's journey.
What a wonderful day I had photographing so many different locations. I am so proud of our youth for serving God and the local community in such a faithful manner. Blessed indeed.
I truly appreciate your visits and comments.

The cards are dealt again. The man slowly peaks at his arrivals and notices a break in his bad luck, two Aces. He ponders a moment, all night his opponent - a lady - has beat him and pried chip after chip reluctantly from his stack. He doesn't have much left now and he wants to make this nemesis of his pay.
He puts in a modest size bet, just enough to wet the appetite of the young lady, the lady of luck - the lady of death. He watches her peak at her cards. He notices every flaw in her face and in her hands. He perceives ugly where others simply see beauty. When he first sat down with the young lady with even stacks he liked her. There was a sense of kindness and a flirtatious atmosphere filled the room. Now he hates her, can't stand her. He almost grins with pleasure as she calls his bet. He can't wait to take all her money, it's killing him inside.
Deuce, Ace, Seven comes the flop. Three-of-a-Kind. His heart races, and his mind goes on a trip plotting out all the different courses of action, each one ending with her loosing all her money -getting it all back and then some - making her cry.
"Check" he says hoping that his aggressive opponent acts as she always does. He masks his smile when she puts in her usual pot-sized bet. He quietly calls her bet trying not to show the joy he has for flopping such a monster hand.
His hand trembles at the sight of the next card, his voice has crawled up so tight and so far down his throat he cannot speak, only his ability to tap the table inducing a check after another deuce peels off conceals his full house. He watches, hoping that his overly aggressive opponent bites into his plan. "All In" she cries out with confidence. A sort of annoying tone of voice to the man as he heard it a dozen times tonight. He thinks back a moment, thinking back that each time the pot was large and how she would spew those ear-retching words out without a care in the world. Her voice so annoying that it pumps anger into his veins. But this time it's different. This time it's music to his ears. It's the sound of a new bottle of rum or whiskey being open. It's the sound of his motorcycle starting up on a beautiful day. It's a sound he quickly learned to love. "CALL!" he shouts proudly flipping over his full house and promptly shoving insults into the young lady's face when it's revealed that his full house is triumphs her's. A spectator in the background comments on the lady's 2% chance to win, "only one card can help her" fuels the mans taunting to the young lady.
"All night you go all in with nothing and I can't call you. You super aggressive... I waited all night to catch you and now look. Your bust and your cutesy little voice can't save you now, I'm taking you to the cleaners! I will teach you to play 7-2 against me you over confident motherfu-..."
The man gets cut off by the lady before he could complete his insult. He allows her to speak knowing that no matter the words he is far too much the favorite here and he will walk away with the money. While she speaks he starts dreaming what he will do with the winnings. Even after his victory the heads-up match is far from over, however he is already buying new things in his mind. He only partly listens,
"Oh silly man. Clubs are my lucky suit, everyone knows that. I play these two cards because I know they'll win - that's why I went all in silly pants. Watch, you'll see." she says worried free sipping her White Zinfandel.
The dealer burns off one card and flips over the river. The imagery of the final card ignites the mans smile into a rage. His face tightens showing every muscle and vein. His eyes turn blood red and his breathing increases. He SLAMS down on the table in a fit of rage, shattering his surroundings around him. In all his anger he has horrible thoughts of pain for the lady sitting next to him. He's broke and she wins. His life story on display for everyone to see on the table. All he can remember is voice in his head from a trusted friend when he first starting playing poker, "with Aces, you either win a little or loose a lot." A quote that will haunt him for days to come.
"What do you want I should smear it on? This paper sheet? Where is the spatula?"
We think she means speculum.
"SPATULA! I HAVE TO SMEAR IT ON THE SPATULA, AND THEN IT MAKES THE PANCAKES RISE!"
What? Never mind. No. Don't explain it any further. Enough.
"Amateurs!!! Hey can I get a brazilian too since I'm already up here like this?"
Bye, Sassparilla.
"Bye, ya ol' candy ass!"
