This line uses a lot of very well restored antique coaching stock with most of it pre-grouping in origin as can be seen in this photograph

Sunday 5th April 2009 at Barrow Hill Depot. Even in plain unlined black livery I think this is a very handsome locomotive – a classic design.

The O4 Class were very successful heavy freight locomotives designed by Robinson as his 8K class for the Great Central Railway. Many were built for the British Army during WW1 and although most found their way back to the UK many remained and continued to be used abroad – even as far away as Australia.

The "Anywhere" lamp was designed by Greta Von Nessen in 1948.

The Lamp was also displayed in MoMA's "Good Design" exhibit in 1950.

It's functionality allows it to be used either

sitting or hung on the wall.

The spun-metal shade obscures the bulb and has the ability to tilt the reflected light.

This classic design of tubular aluminum and enameled

metal still looks good half a century later.

St. Louis Antiques? was the dealer selling this Lamp.

Saturday 5th September 1987 at Birmingham Railway Museum, Tyseley. Some work has been done to this Castle Class Locomotive if only to stop deterioration after its time at Barry. My photo notes for this day do not say which Castle this is. Does anybody know its identity?

Friday 24th June 2016 at Reading Station. First Great Western has rebranded itself as the Great Western Railway but as of this date little of its rolling stock fleet had been restyled in the new GWR livery and most still had the livery shown here.

First Great Western for me is not and never will be the Great Western Railway. That great concern ceased to be in 1948 when the railways were nationalised. The current company will remain First Great Western as far as I am concerned. It would be better off improving its services rather than wasting time, effort and money on rebranding and yet another change in the livery of its trains

Thursday 16th July 1992 on The Isle Of Wight Railway. The locomotive is 198 Royal Engineer which was built by Hunslet for the War Department in 1953 (works number 3798).

Like so many of the IoWSR carriages 4112 behind the engine has an interesting history. It was built by the South Eastern Railway as a 6-wheel Brake Third in the company’s Longhedge Works in 1898. In 1919 after being inherited by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway it was converted to a salon. It was inherited by the Southern Railway in 1923 and 1 year later its became a 4-wheel vehicle and was shipped to the Isle of White where it worked until withdrawn in 1938. The body was saved and used as a bungalow at Gurnard Marsh on the Isle of White. Later this body was saved for restoration and is now running on an ex SR PMV underframe. It is now 118 years old.

Thursday 16th July 1992. Shown here in Isle of Wight Central Railway livery as No 11 this locomotive was built for the London Brighton & South Coast Railway at that company’s Brighton Works in 1878. It is now 138 years old. It was LBSCR 40, Southern Railway 2640, British Railways 32640 and W11 when transferred to the Isle of White by BR.

Classic Remise Düsseldorf 2014

Very small and scaled down versions of the beautiful “S” chair designed by Verner Panton. One of the images I took when visiting the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. I just love the shape and all the glorious colours.

Summer 1961 or 1962 and A3 4-6-2 60063 Isinglass at Kings Cross. It is seen at the head of an Ian Allan (publishers) excursion from Kings Cross to Doncaster with a guided tour of the works included. I enjoyed a memorable day out on this trip. Isinglass did not bring us back again. This honour fell to two other A3s which were 60109 Hermit and 60112 St Simon with a change of locomotive at Grantham.

Isinglass was built by the London North Eastern Railway at Doncaster Works in June 1925 as an A1 (later A10) class engine. She was rebuilt with a higher pressure boiler and other improvements in April 1946. Later she was further modified with a double chimney and German style smoke deflectors. She was withdrawn in June 1964 and cut up 2 months later by A King & Sons Ltd, Norwich.

This striking photograph captures the spirit of yesteryear’s racing glory. The black vintage car, emblazoned with the number 70, is a beautiful relic that harks back to the golden era of motor racing.

Bass Notes: The film posters of Saul Bass at the Kemistry Gallery in London

Sunday 5th April 2009 at Barrow Hill Depot. I saw and photographed this locomotive on the Great Central Railway only 6 months or so earlier.

The O4 Class were very successful heavy freight locomotive designed by Robinson as his 8K class for the Great Central Railway. Many were built for the British Army during WW1 and although most found their way back to the UK many remained and continued to be used abroad – even as far away as Australia.

Monday 4th May 1987 at Bounds Green Depot Open Day. Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class pacific locomotive 35028 Clan Line was the steam locomotive on display and the star of the day.

Designed by Oliver Bulleid for the Southern Railway this locomotive entered service in 1948. Originally it was built with air- smoothed casing which gave the class the nickname of Spam Cans. It also had Bulleid’s design of chain driven valve gear which proved less than successful. In the 1956 a start was made on rebuilding the whole class with conventional boiler cladding in place of the air-smoothed casing and with three sets of more conventional Walschaerts valve gear. Other changes and improvements were included in the rebuilt locomotives. Clan Line was the last of the Class so rebuilt in 1960. Like the rest of her class Clan Line proved to be a very successful locomotive after being rebuilt although also like the others had a short life in this form as the end of steam on British Railways brought their careers to an early end.

Clan Line was purchased direct from British Railways by the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society in 1967 and is still maintained in an operational condition. It is currently certified for use on the main line network.

In all 11 members of this 30 strong class have survived into preservation although many are still waiting for restoration.

A close-up view of the steering wheel and dashboard of a classic yellow car parked outdoors. The vibrant colors and vintage design highlight the charm of this vehicle.

I was 14 years old, my second camera was a Rolei 35 mm Camera (Kleinbild) and I loved US-Cars. This Foto was taken in the summer of 1980 in Finnland. Original scan, no filters.

Summer 1961 or 1962 and the day of an Ian Allan (publishers) excursion from Kings Cross to Doncaster with a guided tour of the works. A4 Class 4-6-2 60018 Sparrow Hawk looks like she is soon to be released to traffic after an overhaul.

Sparrow Hawk was built by the London North Eastern Railway at Doncaster Works in November 1937. She was withdrawn in June 1963 and cut up at her birth place the following month.

Wolverton Works Open Day on Sunday 2nd October 1988. Every railway works open day has to have a steam locomotive. Today was no exception and LMS Pacific 6201 “Princess Elizabeth” did the honours.
