Ainars Rubikis came to international attention as winner of the Third International Gustav Mahler conducting competition in 2010. In 2011 he was announced recipient of the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award and subsequently conducted the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester at the Salzburg Festival. From 2012-14 he served as Musical Director of Novosibirsk State Opera House.
Plans for the 2016/17 season include debuts with Lyric Opera of Chicago (Carmen) Theater Basel (La forza del destino), Finnish National Opera and return visits to Latvian National Opera, Orquesta de Euskadi, and Passionstheater Oberammergau.

On February 14, 2013, violinist Robin Scott and cellist Ahrim Kim performed at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art as part of its weekly series, A Little Lunch Music. Sponsoring the performance was Carol and Gene Bramlett, Paul and Margaret Kouidis, and Taylor and Lucy Littleton in memory of Louvica Davis.
On March 7, 2013, The Woodfield Trio with guest saxophonist Angel Negrin performed in Auburn, Alabama, at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art as part of its weekly series, A Little Lunch Music. Members of The Woodfield Trio are saxophonist and flutist Patrick McCurry and pianist Barbara Acker-Mills. Jim and Sue Haygood sponsored the performance. The law firm of Haygood, Cleveland, Pierce & Thompson (hcplaw.com) sponsored a performance by clarinetist Gary Moore from the Montgomery Symphony and Auburn pianist Nicole Agostino. The concert took place at the Jule Collins Smith Museum on September 15, 2011. This was part of the museum's Thursday lunchtime series, A Little Lunch Music.
